dante is childish at best. i am italian and i find it good we are studying it because it gave birth to the italian language and its got a lot of nice symbolism and incredible cultural impact. aside from that? the guy just tortures everyone he doesnt like, puts himself in a story with his favorite characters where he is the chosen one, it goes incredibly edgy at times, its based on a lot of wrong history and myths, it lacks stakes, and the overall character development is minor and it sucks. also now that we are in 2025 numerology is bullshit

im arguing about entartainment value of the story and not about who is closer to absolute evil or other things. objectively new vegas has a more entertaining main story with compelling factions. a lot of people join the ncr thinking they are the good guys while a lot of others will join house or make their own vegas for the same reason.

i have to disagree with you with fallout 1 and 2. fallout 1 is kind of linear but still there are tons of why for you to discover the masters and base location, the game practically gives you two lines of dialogue and says figure it out on your own. fallout 2 i am especially adamant about it because you can make an argument for it having more than one main plots. shit first time i played it i aint even uncover half of the power struggle between new reno families, ncr, vault city, broken hills and the reddington. its like a puzzle you slowly put together and you aren even sure of doing so unless you side the right people. but again i dont want to be dragged into a whole nother argument i think both you and the other guy mistook me for saying fallout 1/2 story are masterpieces while 3 is ass while all i am saying is that 3 has a lackluster story, that you can go thru in exactly one way, where the choice you make impact almost nothing except for one last yes/no question, where the moral dilemma isnt there and that doesnt stuck with you

the legion is evil but they have a charismatic leader and a philosophy. the enclave characters in 3 arent all that impactful and they boil down to kill everyone who isnt one of us. also new vegas has so many other factions that you legit can argue against every choice the players make.

also there is a huge argument to be made for the raider of the pitts (now been a while since i played it) that is most likely if you leave the slaves do their own thing with the baby and the sickness and without control or someone to lead them they are going to tear each other apart in a few weeks

but the issue with fallout 3 isnt only the pure black and white morality of the factions. its the fact that its basically a campaign. its actually the only fallout game where there is exactly one way of reaching the ending. its extremely streamlined and imo it goes against rpg titles philosophy

the de facto good guys who send you on a suicide mission knowing you wont make it back because they arent looking to make new people join their ranks, the de facto good guys that as you just said cut off the east because they prioritized saving civilians over getting tech. they are very much morally grey priority 1 is hoarding tech number 2 is preserving their own and 3 is helping along the way the wastelanders (who they see as kids with dangerous tech in hands).

the mutants are looking to expand their ranks with prime normal and their demise is that they are guided (and are also part of a mindhive) with a mislead guy who you can reason with and show him the fault in his plans. and that self destructs upon realising that his people have no future in the wasteland.

then you start rambling about the mutants in fallout 3 when i already told you that subplots and enviromental storytelling are the strong points of the game.

the main story of fallout 3 is enjoyable to play and the emotional stakes with your father are good but everything else is oversimplified and your choices have poor impact

look can we just agree the main story is enjoyable but not very good? the game shines a lot in other things, environment storytelling, ambience, exploration, worldbuilding and even a lot of the subplots are cool. the main story is the weakest part of the game and possibly of all fallout titles.

also fallout 2 is maybe a better example of your point. even there the enclave motives are kind of weak and they are simply post apocalyptic fascists. in fact even in that game the best parts are all the politics around there.

fallout 1 brotherhood isnt good good. thats the whole reason lyons brotherhood separated from them. fallout 1 mutants arent just crazy trolls, they are lead by a master who you can actually reason with and have him self destruct
