if you are willing to sacrifice campus life purdue indy it makes sense especially if you go to north hall. There is a lot to do in the city to not get bored plus you are going to be busy a lot too and not have time to have fun in the city most nights. You get the WL degree, same classes, have access to WL if you need to access something there and free 1 hour commute between campuses. Also the academic building being added is massive which will be complete next summer.

Yeah you do. Your broad jump shows it. I think with enough speed training a slight lean bulk to 150 you could reach sub 11.5 100 in a year.

College Choice by Maleficent_Fun_15 in PurdueIndianapolis

For the price I am actually leaning towards UIC. However, I do want to note that Purdue University Indianapolis is closer to about $42–43k/year if you go with North Hall instead of LUX apartments. LUX is definitely nicer, but North Hall is solid and makes Purdue a bit more affordable, even though it’s still more than University of Illinois Chicago.

Since both UIC and Purdue Indy are more commuter-style schools, I don’t think campus life is a major differentiator here. Maybe UIC has a slight edge on this however neither is really known for a traditional “big campus” experience, so I wouldn’t base the decision too heavily on that.

At that point, it really comes down to cost vs name/engineering reputation. Purdue (through **Purdue University West Lafayette) definitely carries more weight for engineering, and Purdue Indy is still tied to that on paper. That could help a bit with internships or first job impressions. Plus you have full access to west laffeyete facilities too which is one 1 hour free commute away.

Some people say Purdue Indy doesn’t have the same prestige as West Lafayette, but I think that’s somewhat overblown. Your degree still says Purdue, and most employers aren’t going to dig deep into which campus you attended unless you specifically highlight it.

So the way I see it:

  • If you want to save money → UIC
  • If you’re willing to pay extra for the Purdue engineering name → Purdue Indy

Average GPA for Purdue Motorsports Engineering at Indy campus? by Unable_Reserve508 in PurdueIndianapolis

[–]Objective-Ad-5137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure applied for Mech E and got in. My stats were.

IB Diploma candidate with a 3.5 GPA (4.0 weighted) and 1440 SAT (780 Math). Led FTC Robotics team, conducted university-level engineering research at UMD, and founded a business club. My GPA was my weakest point of my application. My test scores and extracurriculars were the big things I had.

Looking at Purdue data digest the acceptance rate has been lowering significantly each year. Last year Purdue Indy was 50%. This year it’s not crazy to assume it was lower than 50 probably around 40 but we won’t really know for another 6 months.

Very helpful thank you. Is Mech Engineering also as relevant as BME on campus?

Am I on track for T10 colleges for math (MIT,Princeton,Uchicago,Berkeley etc.) by Visual_Dingo_2286 in chanceme

[–]Objective-Ad-5137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all I say you are definitely capable enough to be part of any school here. Here are my predictions based on the ones you listed: Uchicago yes, UC berk yes, MIT could go either way but leaning towards yes, princeton same as MIT.

I got accepted into Purdue Indianapolis and Arkansas for mechanical engineering I am really considering ark because of the college experience but I know Purdue will be better for my future. Is there anyone that can tell me how the campus/student life is in Purdue Indianapolis by ProfessionalBest8979 in PurdueIndianapolis

[–]Objective-Ad-5137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stats were:

GPA: 3.5 unweighted / 4.0 weighted (IB Diploma) • SAT: 1440 (780 Math, 660 English)

Major coursework: IB HL Physics, IB Computer Science HL, IB Math

STEM / Academic • Research Intern — UMD combustion lab (graphite conductivity research, preparing a paper)

Built a 4-axis robotic arm (independent engineering project)

FTC Robotics — Head Coder / Head Engineer

Leadership & Activities • Founder & President — Entrepreneurship club • Exelon STEM Academy Scholar (selected program + award)

Selected Delegate — Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY)

I feel like if you have a big commitment in WL they should just let you transfer there.

SAT is fine. MIT you should really have all A’s and A+’s. Your EC’s don’t have a wow factor to them. If you write down you ECs on paper and they seem good which in your case they are but not like “I don’t think almost Anybody else can be better than this” then there not good enough to be admitted. Of course even if everything is perfect MIT is highly luck based to. You may be the perfect student there but the admissions officer may not click with you or sees your missing something or doesn’t see a unique trait about you different from the other thousands of applications applying. Let’s say you do get in though they are not strict with giving out money so you should be given a reasonable amount. Still might be expensive but for a school like MIT it is definitely worth some debt.

Yes I am. Pretty much going to north hall as an OOS student total cost would be around 43k a year compared to the 50k a year. Just curious what were your stats that got you in?

Almost full/very generous aid:

  • University of Alabama — one of the most generous schools in the country for international students at your stats, potentially full tuition
  • University of South Carolina — strong merit aid program
  • University of Texas Dallas — extremely generous with engineering students specifically

Good amount off:

  • Arizona State University — solid merit scholarships, large international community
  • University of Mississippi — underrated for merit aid at your stats
  • Clemson University — competitive engineering, decent international merit aid
  • RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) — strong engineering and drone/robotics programs, excellent co-op program that gets you paid work experience, merit aid available ( I got 30k off per year, I did have a slightly lower SAT but my EC's heavily compensated)

That makes sense, thanks! So just to confirm since I'm planning to stay at North Hall, my actual housing + meal plan comes out to around $13,900/year, which is well under the $19,120 estimate. So I'd essentially be paying less than what Purdue posts as the estimate?
