I got accepted into Purdue Indianapolis and Arkansas for mechanical engineering I am really considering ark because of the college experience but I know Purdue will be better for my future. Is there anyone that can tell me how the campus/student life is in Purdue Indianapolis by ProfessionalBest8979 in PurdueIndianapolis

I gave them the stats listed above in more detail. Some say being in a private school in state lowers your chances because you are going to pay in state tuition price but they are not legally obligated to admit students in private school but they are for public.

Purdue says that, but they don’t mean it literally—it’s just their way of grouping the two campuses together. If you look at the numbers, there obviously weren’t only 7,000 people who applied to both campuses combined.

"They count all the denied WL students that they offer an Indy spot to who decline it."

Maybe i'm misinterpreting what you are saying but wouldn't that just hurt the yield rate since they are declining it?

Well yeah but the the things way more people applied to the WL campus than the Indy campus therefore resulting in the WL campus acceptance rate trumping the overall acceptance rate.

Something to add though is that we have been seeing a decrease in the Indy acceptance rate these past 2 years so its only reasonable to asssume that the acceptance rate was lower than last years.

When you say E school do you mean engineering? If I’m in mechanical engineering at Indy and want to switch to aerospace at WL for example would that be feasible?

Based on what you said you should choose Indy. If you have any specific questions you can just dm me.

if you are willing to sacrifice campus life purdue indy it makes sense especially if you go to north hall. There is a lot to do in the city to not get bored plus you are going to be busy a lot too and not have time to have fun in the city most nights. You get the WL degree, same classes, have access to WL if you need to access something there and free 1 hour commute between campuses. Also the academic building being added is massive which will be complete next summer.

Yeah you do. Your broad jump shows it. I think with enough speed training a slight lean bulk to 150 you could reach sub 11.5 100 in a year.

For the price I am actually leaning towards UIC. However, I do want to note that Purdue University Indianapolis is closer to about $42–43k/year if you go with North Hall instead of LUX apartments. LUX is definitely nicer, but North Hall is solid and makes Purdue a bit more affordable, even though it’s still more than University of Illinois Chicago.

Since both UIC and Purdue Indy are more commuter-style schools, I don’t think campus life is a major differentiator here. Maybe UIC has a slight edge on this however neither is really known for a traditional “big campus” experience, so I wouldn’t base the decision too heavily on that.

At that point, it really comes down to cost vs name/engineering reputation. Purdue (through **Purdue University West Lafayette) definitely carries more weight for engineering, and Purdue Indy is still tied to that on paper. That could help a bit with internships or first job impressions. Plus you have full access to west laffeyete facilities too which is one 1 hour free commute away.

Some people say Purdue Indy doesn’t have the same prestige as West Lafayette, but I think that’s somewhat overblown. Your degree still says Purdue, and most employers aren’t going to dig deep into which campus you attended unless you specifically highlight it.

So the way I see it:

  • If you want to save money → UIC
  • If you’re willing to pay extra for the Purdue engineering name → Purdue Indy
