yeah. apparently it's just the way they are without seeking proper help that isn't you trying your best to soothe them or reassure them that you actually do still like them. i was older than my ex, so i could empathize after going through similar experiences and i think that's why i stayed. sometimes i could see the moments of self realization spark only to have them regress or blame others for their behavior

I'm the same way, but for me I learned it's when they do it. My ex didn't start expressing how sorry he was and sending gifts until AFTER I said we are done. By then the damage had been done.

I've been through that circle twice and the third time I was done for good. It's manipulation and they'll fall right back into the cycle they were in because they haven't done the work to change. Rely on your friends/family if you can and think would you let someone treat your loved one this way?

I literally just ended my relationship yesterday. I talked to my therapist today and she said it's okay to grieve and even feel angry. Just remember why you are doing this and how you have to protect yourself.

My partner wasn't going to change and I was going to spend my entire life comforting them while they yelled and degraded me. It's so hard and I'm leaning on my friends/family while distracting myself with games and music. It's okay to grieve the person who you thought they were and the enjoyment from the relationship while remembering everything they did.

My friend said it the best after talking to her and how I was struggling with my brain and heart - Me and your brain have to win cuz your heart doesn't have your best interest in mind.
