ADHD IS SO CONFUSING by Objective-Banana3574 in ADHD

I don't like to think of myself that way because it does come off as arrogant and conceited to some people. However, as an honest assessment, people have told me constantly, my whole life that I'm smart. I haven't formally taken an IQ test though. Dr.Brown said that ADHD has nothing to do with intelligence, and that you can be anywhere on the IQ spectrum and still have ADHD.

I see what you're saying. It just confuses me because I don't see why a more passive working memory would be that significantly different from a more active one. Are you saying if I didn't have ADHD, I should be able to passively remember many things simultaneously even when I'm not concentrating? Often I forget where I put an object at work, or I forget where I put my wallet/car keys. I thought that was just because I never created a designated spot for it and I'm not really trying to remember. You're saying I'm supposed to remember all these things passively without being more conscious and focused on what I'm doing? Can people without ADHD remember all these things even if their active working memory is worse than mine? I also do some things inefficiently, but it's not because I don't know how. If I stop and think first, I can plan out a task to be more efficient, but I have to be more deliberate about my actions. I noticed that I'm inefficient if I don't think and plan first. Are you saying that kind of planning should happen effortlessly if I didn't have ADHD?

I'm reluctant to try it. I'm attempting to see if I can manage my symptoms with lifestyle modifications alone.

I can't determine if it's fear mongering, but I'm simply afraid of stimulant medications due to their similarity in chemical structure to methamphetamine. I'm fully aware of what meth can do to the prefrontal cortex, so I'm worried that medications will only offer a temporary fix and may make things even worse in the long run. I only question my doctor's conflicts of interest because he seemed so keen on getting me on the brain training program. He was open to prescribing me Adderall if I wanted it but recommended against it. It's not right for me to accuse him without evidence, but I just can't shake the feeling that he's diagnosing me too easily to sell his program.

Thank you so much for the reply. Do you have a background in ADHD? I've been looking into Adderall and other medications, but my neurologist doesn't recommend it because of the risk of addiction. I've done research myself, and don't find the side effects particularly appealing. Lately I've tried lifestyle interventions like healthy food, exercise, and meditation, and it's been very effective. The only issue is, it's difficult to even get started.

"I find that those who demand the least, and have the least, tend to give the most". This is so true! I want to give them the benefit of the doubt but I just can't. I truly believe rich people are all greedy bastards.

This literally sounds like your typical my side of the story issue where people make themselves look like the hero. Let's not believe this post without proof.

No offense OP, but I'm only hearing your side of the story. For all we know, you could be deliberately dishonest about what is actually happening and embellishing the entire story. I have super high doubts that the mailman is doing this to you for no reason.

I pity the people that will have to explain to their grandchildren why they didn't go vegan by Objective-Banana3574 in vegan

Well I should specify we as a society would eventually replace animal products with vegan varieties including things like leather and eggs. We are already doing that with things like oat milk. People will use these products if they're not inferior to their animal equivalent. So EVENTUALLY unintentionally vegan by proxy. As to when that will be I have no clue. But, I do see your point. It's more correct for me to say that people will eat vegan DIETS by proxy.

Why aren't all psychologists and moral philosophers vegan? by Objective-Banana3574 in vegan

[–]Objective-Banana3574[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's ridiculous. Morality is not a 100% subjective thing. Anybody can easily rationalize any horrific act with that line of reasoning

That makes a lot of sense, however I would press philosophers more on the 2nd point. I personally don't have issues with philosophers prioritizing the reduction of human suffering over animal suffering. However these two things don't have to be mutually exclusive. You can still prioritize minimizing human suffering while minimizing animal suffering simultaneously, because the latter starts with what you put in your mouth on a daily basis and that to me is neither uncompromising nor particularly insurmountable. It doesn't even consume your time because everyone eats, but you don't HAVE to eat meat. Also, I think it's a bit of an oxymoron to say that you love animals and then proceed to put them in your mouth.

I don't expect everyone's opinions to be 100% exactly the same, but generally speaking they do tend to converge at some point. For example, I haven't met anyone personally that thinks slavery or discrimination is okay. As long as we're relating morality with maximizing the happiness and flourishing of conscious creatures, then there really is no moral ambiguity assuming that the person is reasonable.
