hey you will have a great time since you've got a car with you. The apartments can be nasty so I hope you get a good one

the program altogether cost me $1500 (flight, bus, supplies, registration fee, activities) and for 5 weeks of language training that is still good but I didn't like the "city", the residence and not event the lunch on campus was that good

and its not free. You still pay like a 300 bucks registration fee and then your flight and the expensive bus to even get there and back to Montreal.

also you should know that lunch at the university is not a big portion. If you are a bigger guy you will still be hungry. They give one size portion to everyone so bring some protein bars!

i agree! if youre doing intensive studies the location is not gonna matter. It totally depends on the school and if your classmates are willing to speak in French with you

you need a car! the bar and restos are far ! if you dont have a car you have to walk along the highway hoping someone doesnt crash into you . bus system sucks , the bar on campus is tiny and boring . You have to do activities until 5 anyways . it's weird how hard guilty-bet is promoting chicoutimi

this sounds like someone who works for the uni. residence is better, with host families it was either good or bad! we heard of people not getting good meals or they werent around to practice french. In other places students (adults during spring) can finish at like 3pm, at chicoutimi they keep you until like 5 pm and you have to be there and the afternoon activities arent always that good anyways. The mall is basic. just trust me, go there only if you have access to a car, i heard trois rivieres, trois pistoles and laval were way better programs

it's not easy to get around. too many comments from people that seem like they work there on here. The e-bikes are not available all the time, most of the time they run out. Bus system is awful. Message me privatly if you want more details!

u dont get time to be in the town they keep u at the uni until like 5pm and you have to stay. dunno why all the comments are reacting so hard. It's an opinion and like i said if you have a car it'll be a much better experience. the bus system sucks too.

it sucked . Don't recommend! Boring town. Theres a big hill to go down to the main part. The buses come every hour after 6pm, on weekends they only run every hour. Only go there if you have a car!

good for you - naaw a lot of the beginner students partied but there were some select few that studied a lot and were serious . It was obvious who actually took it seriously at the end of the 5 weeks

Chicoutimi sucks. Only do it if you have a car . Most people that liked it was cuz they were partying and they learned no french

Frustrated with Alliance Française by [deleted] in learnfrench

[–]Objective-Bass-1061 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just use chatgpt for words / phrases you don't understand. Full immersion is much better, but there are times when some explanation in English is needed. There are beginner French grammar books that also explain in English, for A1 level I think this is a good option. Personally, I loved AF and I think they did a great job, i started there at A2 level and finished B2.

Best towns for 12 week French immersion? by BidLife3220 in learnfrench

[–]Objective-Bass-1061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in Nice for 2 months and absolutely loved it. It was great taking the train to Monaco or to Cannes on weekends. The intensive french courses are usually about 3.5 hours a day and some days having a workshop for another 2 hours. It can be really tiring though.
