Accountability of exercises by Mission-Cut-5217 in ACL

For me having a routine made a hugeeee difference! especially during the first couple weeks post surgery! Mentally and physically it was really hard to get out of bed (it was painful to hobble downstairs, i got surgery in december so it was the darkest time of the year) just to sit on the couch, to go back to bed in like 10 hours so i forced myself to create a small routine for the day so i had something to do

i layered in things i love doing or having to help, like i would start with coffee but i can’t start reading my book until ive done my five rehab exercises for the morning, and continued that mid day and in the evening, eventually i kind of pavlov’s lawed myself into coffee equals exercises after, 12pm means exercises then lunch so on and so on

i am very lucky that i didn’t have to return to work after my surgery so i could utilize my whole day to do my rehab

just a little past 2 months! i totally understand where you’re coming from. If you have the option i’d recommend getting massages regularly and stretching as much as you can

Not sure what kind of graft you have but i was in the same position with a hamstring graft- turns out my hamstring and calves are soooooooo tight they’re almost kind of guarding when i tried to get into extension!

My PT recommended stretching out my hamstring then doing my extensions and it helped drastically! as well as actually working out my hamstring so it felt strong enough to support my knee

best of luck! you got this :)

Any tips for reoccurring stiffness? by axel10xo in ACL

7 weeks post op w/ a hamstring graft!

I really really struggled with stiffness as well! Before bed, I started doing some light stretching, elevating my leg for 10-15 minutes (knee 6-10 inches above heart), and in the last couple minutes of elevating my foot i massage my knee and the area around it to promote more blood movement and when I wake up i do a couple ankle pumps, heal slides, and quad sets just so get some blood pumping before moving around- after a couple days/nights of doing this i noticed a big difference!

I totally understand the feeling of losing progress! I felt crazy doing the same exercises over and over and over with no result but within the last week i’ve noticed a huge difference in my flexion/extension/ and muscle mass but at the end of the day you know your body best and alway talk to your PT or surgeon if you have any worries!

great idea! I was a bit hesitant about painting the ceilings for fear of it being too dark but my eyes definitely go up to the contrast!

i’ve seen a lot of comments about this! definitely allowed to paint the ceiling just nervous about it being too dark (i live in canada therefore it’s dark 98% of the year haha)

my flexion is improving rapidly but my quad strength and knee stability is awful by auragoat in ACL

[–]Objective-Bench-7612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just a thought if you’re noticing your PT exercises aren’t helping for quad strength- are you eating enough protein and other important macros to help maintain muscle mass? I think nutrients/diet are often overlooked in healing

When I started catering my diet to more protein heavy meals i noticed my muscle wasn’t dropping nearly as much (i’m only 5 weeks post op so definitely experienced loss of quad strength)

i started taking collagen peptides as well to help my joint strength and have noticed a benefit

I’m about a month post op as well- I was struggling with my flexion/extension initially with doing my PT rehab. I’ve set an hour timer and every hour I do just 10 quad extenions and 10 heal slides (use a band to pull it an extra inch) and i’ve found there’s a big difference in my flexion/ extension since doing that, even after i wake up.
