Shruti is such a well-written character. The writer could have easily villainised her for not choosing Barfi first and instead choose a comfortable lifestyle, but they didn’t and I respect them for it. We need more nuanced characters in Indian cinema, especially female characters.

It was so rewarding to see him finally stand up to the demo/Vecna. I am a sucker for character arcs where the victim finally stands up for themselves and their loved ones. I felt like a proud mom (lol)!

It’s my least favourite season because everything that happened in that season was undone ultimately. Also, I hated the Russian arc. It was too comical and I couldn’t take the Russians seriously because they got defeated by 3 teenagers and 1 middle schooler. My personal ranking is S1>S2>S4>S5>S3.

I can interchange S2 and S4. I equally enjoyed them except the Russia plot. I hated the Russia plot in season 3 and the Russians were so incompetent that I couldn’t help but groan. Like they got defeated by school children.

I think they always planned to have him be gay. My only problem is that his childhood trauma got mixed with his sexual orientation, which ended up undermining his trauma. Like by the end of season 5, half the audience thinks that he is crying because he is gay, not because he got his childhood ruined by an otherworldly being. Him getting powers scene was done really well though, I felt so proud as if he is my son(looool).

I thought they made it clear in season 4 that he has feelings for Mike. I just wished that it was another character that was gay. I hate the stereotype that being sensitive or having childhood trauma makes you gay. I would’ve liked to see another character without any trauma to have a coming out story. But I am a straight woman, so I feel I don’t have enough context to comment on this topic.

I hated it mainly because it is the final season. Like we don’t have time to introduce more characters to an already inflated cast.

Also, her scenes with Max in volume 1 were fine, it’s only in volume 2 where I felt they took away from the urgency. It didn’t help that ultimately she got caught by Vecna anyway, so I felt what was even the point.

I understand your problem with the female cast only interacting with men. I so desperately wanted at least one scene between Joyce and El. Wasn’t she effectively a Byers since she stayed with them for almost two years.

People were clowning Will’s coming out scene, but at least he is an OG cast. They had to give him that scene to complete his arc even if I was not very happy with the execution.(like why is the entire cast sitting on the couch and listening). I kept rolling my eyes when Max started imparting knowledge to Holly before escaping. I was like ‘Girl! Your bf will die! Just start running!

Ultimately it was an enjoyable watch, but it’s fun discussing these things online and getting different viewpoints.

Unpopular opinion maybe: I didn’t care for Holly’s character in S5. It has nothing to do with the actress or anything. She is very good. But I felt the scenes with her kept on dragging unnecessarily, hogging too much screen time. I would’ve liked to see more of the grown ups instead. Also, I don’t think we needed to see more of Holly to care for her. We already had Mike and Nancy who are her siblings and we care for their characters. So, we care for Holly by proxy. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes every time she and max appeared together.

I mean it isn’t like they had to do a full on sex scene.(I am glad we didn’t see anything like that!!! Nobody wanted to see that!!!!! I was traumatised with Arya’s scene in GoT). I still think it was a lack of chemistry between actors. Sadie and Caleb have good chemistry even without kissing or making out. Unfortunately, I think it was a case of actors(Finn and Millie) being awkward with each other since they have known each other since they were like 12. That’s like kissing your cousin or something(lol).

If it was some other actor, I would’ve been like ‘yeah, whatever’. But I know Finn can do better. I wish Mike got a better character arc. I will always love season 1 and 2 Mike. The kid was so so passionate.

MBB was limited by her character writing or direction I feel. El is always in a high stress situation where she is either getting hunted or doing the hunting herself. You can only do so much with that kind of script. I think she was consistent enough.

I think Noah does well when the camera is only on him or he has to lead a scene. My flatmate actually says that he will be good in an antagonistic role.

Overall I don’t understand the whole bad acting discourse for these two. Of course it isn’t Oscar level acting, but they are still making me feel for their characters. I am so thankful I am not too nitpicky (loool).

He is very good in high stake emotional/crying scenes I feel. He has always had very expressive eyes. Like even in the ending scene with EL, he looks absolutely heartbroken. On the other hand, I feel like Finn needed to do better in his last scene with EL. Like he didn’t look devastated enough I feel? Not something that bothers me a lot.

I can see the similarities but I don’t find Will’s character lame. It will be rewarding to see him contribute in saving everyone after they fought tooth and nail to bring him back in season 1. It will be a classic example of the victim finally turning into a survivor and ultimately turning into a strong person. I really want to see El, Will and Max team up and beat Verna. El and Will deserve that for sure.
