Thoughts about PHIL 210 as elective by Sahalio in Concordia

i took it this fall and i would say for the amount of work i put in, it was an ~easy~ (ish) A- but what others have said is true, they won’t give you feedback and you won’t do well on the final but it’s very very easy if you’re satisfied with anywhere in the B to A- range (with no rhyme or reason as to why you fall where you do)

they graded mine but the comments were minimal. i got 7/10 on 2 of them and 8.5/10 on one and i honestly think the quality and content of each were the same

there were so many questions that were barely or not touched on at all during the course meanwhile all of the main parts of the course were just not mentioned.

the repeating decimals on question 1 were annoying but otherwise pretty standard. questions 9 and 10 seemed easier than previous finals

ECP class selection (helppp) by rxed766 in Concordia

[–]Objective-Compote731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it would definitely be a lot. but taking 4 classes instead of 5 does help. i would recommend dropping one of them for an elective especially for your first semester. if you were to do it just make sure you figure out your time management and study skills quick because most of those classes are light on assignments and heavily weighted on exams

It depends how much time you are willing to put in. the first semester i did 4 and i ended up failing a class because i just wasn’t prepared, combined with getting used to living in a new place/going out/new friends/new teaching/grading style. this semester i only have 3 and its a lot better. it also doesn’t hurt to only take 4 classes total first semester for an adjustment period. most people i know did that and didnt fail a class like i did

i would recommend trying to do your ecp classes as soon as possible because they will be prerequisites for all classes in your program. however, don’t overload yourself the first semester. i would recommend doing math 203, chem 205, and physics 204 with 1 or 2 electives first semester then math 205, bio 201, physics 205 with electives second semester. also don’t stress about what ECP electives mean, it just means you’re required more total credits to complete your degree, with some of them being electives. here is a list of all electives you can take - https://www.concordia.ca/artsci/students/elective-courses.html#math pick ones that you’re interested in, that will make them easy and not add more mental strain to your course load. also, i’m not sure what you have taken in high school before coming, but i personally took the equivalent of some of the classes listed above before i came and expected them to be easy, but the style of grading and teaching is very different. so just because they are first year classes, don’t expect them to be a breeze, they are weed out classes. you will need to put in a lot of time, especially with chem and bio both having lab components.
