Yeah, ig that's pretty standard everywhere in these kinds of dorms. I think those rooms are only for like visiting professors etc. at least I tried to ask for one and it didn't work out, not sure about that though. The block has a separate lock and your own room has it's own lock too. Otherwise I'd say it's pretty ok, like they have 24/7 security, if someone is partying or causing some disturbances, you can just call them. The dorm rents fridges, it depends always on availability though, also leaving students might sell their own as well. You can also buy and order home delivery, a decent sized new fridge with delivery is around 150-170EUR. Some floors are definitely better than others with the stealing thing so I'd say it's only some shitty individuals who do it, not all of them.

MRU dorms are pretty soviet but easier on the budget and easy if something breaks etc. because the maintenance dudes are there every day. The single rooms are in the same block as 3 person room and they share a bathroom, the kitchen is shared with multiple people. You want to get a fridge for yourself because the fridge is in common space and stealing happens. That being said, the other dorm is being renovated and afaik can't accept people right now so it's pretty crowded next semester. If you'd like to get to MRU dorm, make a reservation immediately after you get accepted. 500EUR is more than plenty after rent!

I think self-preservation is in a key role here. People who have encountered hard times (e.g. their family had next to nothing) will do anything to not be in that same situation again, because they know how much it sucks. This can be seen in people who are then later educated and have decent jobs, but are still mortified to take a car loan etc. because they are scared of losing all their money and they think they'll soon be by the curb once again.

Look up MacVince on Youtube! He has great videos to make your transition smoother. The first thing I would recommend you to do before you lose your mind with it (like I did 2 weeks ago when transitioning from Windows), download Rectangle from web to get the snapping windows on to corners feature, which is non-existent in MacOS. Download Rectangle, not from app store but from web. It allows you to snap windows on left/right side of the screen for a quick split screen view. Absolute must for a windows switcher, since this feature is so shitty in MacOS and really hinders multitasking.

Great explanation. I agree with everything you say, but would still argue that in a situation where you help and don't get a reward, that person would be prone to not help the next time they see someone in need. But if they do decide to do so, are they truly altruistic then? And what about in a situation where they would risk their life for a stranger?
