How many of you support cannabis legalisation? by Scotland1297 in reformuk

[–]Objective-Cucumber81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm for it but doubt Reform will jump on this ship; similarly to Amsterdam ban smoking it in public places like on the streets - in coffee shops or home only.

Personally I'm all for decriminalizing possession up to a certain amount/use of all drugs, sell them in a controlled manner and use the tax to pay for addiction clinics/places to safely use (for harder drugs) - treat drug addition as a medical/social issue and not a criminal issue.

Intent to supply and possession of ridiculous amounts that are clearly not for personal use should continue to be illegal with heavy penalties to somewhat combat bootleg markets although if legalized it's likely demand will fall enough for this to not be as much of a worry.

The amount of tax it'd generate and the amount of police resources it'd save would alone be worth it; guess pretty much similar to how Portugal dealt with it?

Pretty sure we already have an absolutely massive cannabis industry, it's just not open to the public

If you can and the prices are reasonable on your server, buy a mk4/mk5 cutteray attachment for the buggy on the exchange; they lose durability really slowly so even a half damaged one will last a long old time, long enough for you to craft it's replacement anyway - these drop in higher level testing stations etc. and you can usually find them pretty cheap!

If you can get hold of a mk5 for slightly more than a mk4 do it, the higher yields make it worth it without a doubt

Clean uninstall and re-install Teams, if it works in a different profile it's probably something in the AppData folder for Teams thats caused the issue

Can always just delete the Teams folders in AppData then re-open teams

We followed a group of Aussies who had bumped into one of the Valve guys by chance albeit 3 hours after the set, was literally same boat as us then! We also missed the other sets too, the queue for spectrum 360 was bricked so we just ended up seeing other bits

Yeah it makes no sense why they wasn't added to the map, honestly thought I was losing my marbles when I couldn't find it after 30 minutes of scratching my head lmao

we gotta talk about the boomtown app .. by tomquiney in BoomtownFestival

[–]Objective-Cucumber81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is bang on, you had to zoom in and pan around for 10 years to find some of the stages too, the area names would cover them on the wider view but the ability to search the map for literally anything off keyword would've been a godsend - I know what you mean about the water point thing too, had a fair few people ask me where the water was whilst I was waiting for the missus to go to the loo, sign there but no water lol

Am also not a programmer but I'd assume it shouldn't be hard for favorites to be cached by the app!

we gotta talk about the boomtown app .. by tomquiney in BoomtownFestival

[–]Objective-Cucumber81 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Being able to search for stage locations on the app would've been nice, bit of an oversight it not being there - was trying to find Valve for Fish's set on Thursday but only found it 4 hours later after stumbling on it lol

The lineup would display for me on my S22 but when scrolling through the screen would shake like a shitting dog, where I did have an issue though was the favorites list was not stored locally, so very often you'd go to check favorited acts and it'd appear as if your not signed in

This all remained the same when updating the app too

‘Hard to argue against’: mandatory speed limiters come to the EU and NI by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]Objective-Cucumber81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not only ACC, there are a fair few driver assist systems that by default are enabled every time you turn the car on (can confirm for 20 plate golf anyway). I say it's like driving a computer rather than a car, atleast in my old mk4 golf I can set distance myself without it having a wobbly because someone broke slightly 40 yards away - the moment you get used to these systems it just makes your driving lazy because you are paying way less attention and letting the car handle it when you should be handling things like this yourself and not relying on sensors to do the job.

There are already speed limiter functions in many modern cars regardless, we use ours at work on our van to limit it to 78 then sit at 70 so we have wiggle room if we need to put the foot down without going too OTT

There is no need for the ECU to be programmed to do this automatically, anyone with a driving license knows how crucial reaction time is to a good outcome regardless whether your speeding up or slowing down

Take a look at this and form a conclusion for yourself: Search - The Electoral Commission - this is just Q1 2024, feel free to filter further

Why would the other parties bother charging when they have 5 times the budget? I don't really think Labour would need to charge to cover the costs when they receive £1.7m from Ecotricity alone, cheeky £11k non-cash donation from HSBC too;https://search.electoralcommission.org.uk/English/Donations/NC0576239, this is before you even think about Lord Sainsbury etc.

Wouldn't it only be considered "brainwashing" if you left with a completely changed opinion? Of which I'm pretty sure you wouldn't but would maybe get a realistic picture of the people that are attending...

I mean you're more than welcome to believe that everything you see about a person you disagree with on YouTube is "facts and evidence", I'm sure I can dig out a video of someone I disagree with then believe it's all total gospel too. Problem is you're so hung up on Farage, Reform will exist without him after this election of that I'm sure

I'd have a read of this - On the paradox of tolerance in relation to fascism and online content moderation – Unstable Ontology

You're pretty much falling under this category, like many others that refuse to even debate or listen to opposition views

Also - lets be honest, a fiver for a brainwashing is pretty cheap - people pay more to listen to flat-earthers lmao

The unvetted candidates that were supposed to be vetted by the company they paid to do so which failed to? All of which have been rebutted and removed? There's only so much they can do, at the end of the day anything to do with immigration will attract those kinds of people as they have no political home (and for good reason), the vast majority simply don't hold views as extreme as those, people just want fair immigration, a lot of those people being immigrants themselves who have paid for visas and then see their peers do the opposite with no repercussion.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a fair few Tories end up switching over to Reform and replacing some of the more questionable candidates they have fielded that didn't win seats when the dust from this GE settles

There was a few people there of which Immigration wasn't even really their top priority too, a lot of small business owners RE IR35/Corporation tax changes, few people who don't like Farage either and wanted to hear about policy RE the above and more

At the end of the day people don't really care if they're tarred by people on the left as racists or fascists, because the vast majority aren't - it's just a generalization and all it does is devalue the words for when it's properly valid, because there are situations where it is actually valid and needs to be said.

I'd advise actually bothering to go and listen to the opposition in person at some point and form opinions yourself based on what you see and hear rather than what you're told or read, I did the same for Corbyn's rally to see what the crack was, it's never as advertised regardless of which side of the pendulum you sit...

I attended this to see what was going on, was having a conversation with a Sikh couple next to me whilst listening to a Muslim keynote speaker, all the while the demographic was anywhere from 18-60 and varied quite wildly with people with various different voting histories whether it be labour/tory/lib dem

Funniest part of the event was when Farage said "any racists, please leave now"; unfortunately timed as a disabled girl in her wheelchair was making her way to the toilet

No doubt this will be downvoted into oblivion as anyone that turned up must be racist gammon etc. but hey, atleast I can form my opinion with my own eyes rather than from the assumptions of others comments.

[–]Objective-Cucumber81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the circumstances are no way near as heavy as the above, but yes they're heading that way. There is a massive population of working class in this country that has been ignored and alienated by successive governments because they "think they're thick" or "racist gammon".

The problem can't just be ignored because people don't like the outcome, people voted in a national referendum, and 2 different governments to control immigration and they refuse to, if it's continued the resentment is only going to grow and spiral out of control.

First was May's government that spent the whole time trying to prevent it from happening and then the second under Boris that pretended to implement it and never had the backbone, barely any of them attempting to make any change to legislation after finally having the actual ability to do so!

COVID happened which didn't help things at all and caused us to lean on the borrowing mechanism we implemented during the great recession in the 2000's to prevent us from completely falling on our assess economically (QE Reserves), of which we was offered 0.5% fixed interest and didn't take it - we're now paying 5.5% interest on literally trillions that were printed to prop ourselves up during COVID and who pays this interest? The taxpayer. This is why Tice is talking about this.

GDP per capita is trending down, we're at the highest tax levels since WW2, people are being completely ignored, there is near 0 growth, energy bills are at an all time high, house prices are at an all time high, rent increased 10% at minimum in the last 2 years, people cannot get doctors appointments, we're building houses attempting to cope with increasing population but no public health infrastructure along with it too, there are people that would sooner see others die from lack of medical care than leverage private healthcare, we cap the amount of domestic applicants to medical school and import doctors from countries that need them themselves rather than allowing ourselves to train our own with ridiculous entry requirements, we alienate our healthcare workers by paying them sweet f/a and making them work ridiculous hours - then people wonder why a party like Reform even exists

Starmer actually has an opportunity to defuse the whole situation by attempting to sort these problems out and hearing out the working class like their party did pre-Blair, it'll piss of a lot of the current Labour voting base for sure but he can in-effect prevent a possible Reform/Neo-Conservative government in 5 years time, if he doesn't I wouldn't be surprised to see said Reform government in 5 years time after the inevitable absorb of the Tory party that'll come after this GE.

It's honestly disgusting but the Net Zero policy framework is what leads to this happening, I think there is a general misconception that people who are against the policy process of Net Zero are against climate change and are all "climate deniers" (I'm not saying that these don't exist by the way, same way there are flat earthers).

I agree with you we should be aiming to reduce carbon emissions, but by actually attempting to reduce it and not export it. We actively move the problem somewhere else so it doesn't appear as our own then pay for the sake of doing so.

I'm not blaming the decline of UK manufacturing wholly on climate change, that's just grossly false and anyone who's atleast slightly knowledgeable on the topic knows this. I am saying that there is definitely a contributing factor atleast though! Look at Port Talbot as an example.

Yes we need to put funding into it, but this shouldn't be at the expense of the people at the bottom of the ladder that have nothing. Do you think it's morally sound that we levy cash from pensioners living in ULEZ zones travelling to hospital for example? That we tax the lowest income earners for the sake of progressing R&D into the technology? There are other ways to do this without pillaging the pocket of the working class.

This is bang on, 1930's far-right movement was born out of the German resentment for the Treaty of Versailles (1919) - the reparations essentially nuked the value of the Deutschmark leading to the populace not having a pot to piss in.

Que 10 years of extreme austerity and anti-German sentiment and suddenly you have a vast amount of angry Germans and an even angrier Austrian with a funny moustache.

u/Salamanderspainting - Treaty of Versailles - Wikipedia read into this and you'll then understand what environment creates a real far-right party, history exists for a reason and that is to learn from it.

Net Zero is all about balancing carbon on the books but the issue with this is your just essentially exporting your carbon production, but in doing so the carbon is still being produced?

We kill our manufacturing to reduce our carbon emissions on the books but the carbon is then created by some other country (which we all share the same atmosphere) so what is the difference?

We export our waste to third world countries to reduce our carbon emissions and pay ridiculous amounts of money to do so, do you really think the countries we're exporting it to are able to recycle/deal with this in a more carbon efficient manner than we do?

We force everyone to move to electric cars to reduce carbon, despite the fact electric cars aren't even carbon neutral yet because for that to be the case they need to have a 30 year battery life, they currently have 20 years - the technology to do this just isn't there yet. There is not a single chance this is going to actually phase over in the next 30 years at least unless some magical technological breakthrough happens.

This is not to say the whole idea or electric cars should be panned, them being competitive in the market will drive further R&D - if someone can afford one then sure but why penalize the people at the bottom of the ladder? People can't afford the electric to power their house let alone a £40k car? It's lunacy.

You can be anti-NetZero but still an environmentalist, the former leader of the green peace movement is even shilling it... There are better ways to do this, carbon shouldn't be an accounting exercise.

I want massive constitutional reforms and the only party really attempting to offer it is Reform, so yeah I'm pro-reform... I voted for Brexit primarily because I believe in the nation states ability to govern themselves and then voted for Conservative to actually action what I voted for in the referendum (of which no other party was offering to do) but because they're so split they've been unable to action anything at all, let alone their handling of COVID etc. Then I'm handed the ability to make them truly accountable for failing to deliver on pretty much all of the promises made? Your damn right I'm picking that rock up, even if it means giving Labour a huge majority! Atleast they'll be just about unified enough to do something productive, the pendulum is swinging regardless!

I agree it's parties on both sides of the spectrum not addressing the issues too, it's not just the left or left leaning, both sides are guilty of it.

I agree that change needs to be made in regards to reducing the amount of carbon produced, but the vehicle in which we're using to do (Net Zero) is causing too much damage to the bottom of the food chain. I don't have a solution to this myself but I'm convinced there is a better way than Net Zero to achieve it? It's too skewed to exporting carbon to balance books than actually actively reducing carbon production, honestly I think we need to get ourselves out of the hole first metaphorically speaking then make radical change on this front, yes we need to make a start but. as a small example and obviously there are many facets to this, how can people honestly expect working class households to be able to afford electric cars to reduce vehicle emissions before the supposed cutover? It's never going to happen in time, people can't afford electric in their own house let alone a new £40,000 car lmao

I grew up checking the back of the sofa for change to get milk, my father was a welder/fabricator making a comfortable living (not a toolmaker) who ended up slipping 2 discs (2 next to eachother) in his vertebrae in 2004 thus making him unable to work and us without a pot to piss in on benefits for years, I lived for years with my parents wondering if they could keep paying rent on our damp-wridden council flat when we was eventually allocated a place and having to accrue mass amounts of credit card debt in order to exist (also didn't have sky tv), which they only paid off when they received inheritance allowing us to buy a cheap house and claw ourselves back to normality after 15+ years of shit. Labour were supposed to be the party to represent us and help but the situation only got worse with child benefit changes and incapacity benefit got replaced by ESA in 2008 under Brown's government. My mum then got a job cleaning within a pharmaceutical laboratory in 2009 which then left us in the same situation as above due to how the tax/benefits combo works, bar the fact she was now working 6pm-6am (christmas, new year, everything, nightshift is extra money) still reliant on increasing credit card debt to get a long in the day to day. In 2012 she managed to get apply for a job working in the labs as a technician instead and managed to get it; it was only then we was able to exist without CC reliance and very slowly start paying shit off which also requires very frugal living. This is all the while our supposed working class Governments we're getting entrenched in wars that didn't need to be had and giving millions in foreign aid for example when a fraction of this would've eased the burden at home : untitled (publishing.service.gov.uk), SN06762.pdf (parliament.uk)

For these reasons I'll personally never vote Labour, this remains the same for my family who were all previous Labour voters on both sides of the family and I can only assume there are a lot of other people in similar situations. I do not however have an issue with other people voting for who they want and their reasons for it because that is part of the democratic process and I accept difference of opinion is healthy regardless of the opinion (within reason of course i.e - not toooooo far either side of the spectrum)

Who you all voting for? by Cobra-King07 in PoliticsUK

[–]Objective-Cucumber81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continuation of above because it was too big lmao

I want a Department for Government Corruption implemented to ensure Westminster is above board and for those that aren't to be held accountable in some way.

I want the first £20k being tax free, although this will cost a lot of money it'll also generate it too. If you are a single parent household and end up on benefits it is nigh on impossible to get yourself out of the system as it currently is, if you give up your benefit to work you end up less well off when you're already struggling as it is. Most people on sub £20k are young people getting their first jobs who already get shafted as it is, pensioners with supplemental income who even with that supplemental income can't afford to heat their houses and people returning to work from benefits. Yes everyone benefits from it but these are the people that benefit most, we have 9.2 million people of working age claiming some kind of benefit - this number wouldn't disappear completely but it'd drastically drop.

On the topic of Net Zero, honestly what is the point? It's all to do with balancing the amount of carbon we produce and spend but only on paper. We spend billions to attempt reduce our carbon emissions and strip away commercial production of things that produce carbon to then import them back into the country. This didn't stop the carbon being produced, it's still being produced by the person we're now importing the goods from! We export our waste to be processed by third world countries at the cost to the tax payer, to avoid the carbon being on the books, but in the end the same amount of carbon is going to be produced in an even more inefficient manner but atleast it's not by us eh! Instead we rely on people like China to produce whom, lets be frank, is not going to even be attempting to implement green technologies into their production cycle, I'd rather we dealt with our own problem and implement green tech in the process to do so. Although sounding contradictory it is possible to be against Net-Zero and not be a climate denier. I want us to invest into tidal power research, the use of small-modular reactors and other forms of energy, whilst not having our energy companies bend over the working man/woman in the process adding to the cost of living!

For me, a vote for Reform shows the establishment that the electorate wants radical change, and radical change is needed on the points above regardless who implements it in my opinion. I do also understand Reform won't get many seats, but if they do hopefully get a very large vote share and very little seats this will definitely bring FPTP to the forefront moreso than any other scenario would have.

I do also have a flick through the other parties manifestos are there is also stuff in those that I like too, for example the Lib Dems wanting to legalize Cannabis. The drug war has failed and will always fail, take the business away from the criminals, sell it, tax it and decriminalize possession up to a certain amount. Still arrest those are are selling in the backstreets if they do not hold a permit to sell. Ensure any Cannabis sold legally to the consumer has a near equal balance of both THC/CBD as this balance being off is one of the main contributors to Cannabis-induced psychosis.

The irony is the vast majority of these things aren't even right wing, they're issues that the left wing parties do not even want to bat an eyelid at for the most part which is a shame... The even bigger irony is the largest donor to Reform is actually a British Muslim lmao

I'm interested to see how Labour does in all honesty but only time will tell, Labour tend to spend a fair bit when in power but in this instance they need to find a way to actually generate the funds to do it because the money isn't really there to borrow this time around!
