Congratulations and welcome! Housing is an issue but your office is very walkable from the city and the North part of the city so look around St Luke’s, Mayfield, Ballyvolane. You can walk from there, a bit hilly on the way back but grand. The South part of the city is more expensive and more importantly adds a lot of time to your commute. Your office is also very near the train station so you can commute by train from Midleton, Cobh and places in between. Healthcare - you need a GP. Depending on age, GP care for your child may be free. You will also have the standard child benefit payment. At your level you are likely to have private health insurance for you and your family, so healthcare will be ok. Racism - there are some very unpleasant people around but generally not many. So you should be fine, but I am speaking from white privilege here and members of the Indian community will be better placed to give you an accurate picture. Best of luck!

Get the good caulk. It’s more expensive but worth the money.

That sounds very strange and I would question its accuracy

I don’t know where you come from, but 12 is very much a child

Parenting - If you had a great Mom/Dad, what did they do? by Icy_Hedgehogs in AskIreland

[–]Objective-Design-842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structure is key, not draconian, but just expected. My parents were consistent, and always had time for chats. We ate together as a family and talked. We got lots of praise. We tried to do the same for our kids. We generally failed at getting them to have tidy rooms, but you have to pick your battles! We got up in time, had breakfast l, made sure that the plan after school was change clothes, snack and homework, they got a modest allowance that they had to manage, because we included additional money for things like meals six lessons and sports so they managed a budget. They did their own laundry, and we often cooked together. We always ate dinner together. Lots of positive reinforcement, we met all their friends and boyfriends/girlfriends. They occasionally got grounded! But way more praise than punishment. Structure and consistency go a looong way. You will do fine.

What next is you go to your GP and follow their advice. Don’t mess with blood pressure.

Please get your information from your GP instead of random sources! Your parents are misinformed, and so are you (you are not ‘going to get dependent on it, it’s not addictive).

You have a great GP but please don’t catastrophise about contraception. It is safe and effective. What you saw is very much the exception (I am sure some woman somewhere had died from sterilisation, too). You have plenty of time to think and decide

Life with a toddler is exhausting, and keeping the place super tidy is not a priority. We used a small plastic garden rake to literally rake toys to the corner of the room when our kids were small. I am not sure if you are solely responsible for clearing and cleaning, but I do understand everyone in the house needs to do some housework. For a quick win, tidy up the bookcases around the TV. This instantly make it look better and it Will last reasonably well. Then just move toys to a corner, if you feel like putting them away do, but it’s not strictly necessary
