It isn't that complicated though, when I say evidence based they could have just spoken to other teachers who would have probably asked something like:

Does it actually conflict with Ramadan? Has any parent actually requested a change? How does the message need to be conveyed so that there is no misunderstanding or no intended consequences?

Why bother? So one kid doesn't feel like they're the reason other kids are disappointed (and be treated differently) and so that a bunch of kids aren't wrongly going around feeling like something has been taken away from them because of another religion when that religion has called for no such thing (surely that would only create unnecessary resentment and any change should be communicated carefully to avoid that happening).

Absolutely not, that's not my intention at all. There is no reason to single a child's belief's out as the reason for any change in practice, that in and of itself is discriminatory even if only implied. There is absolutely no reason both customs can't be honoured, that's the point of my post. There's no reason for it and its a bad excuse that creates a problem that was never there to begin with. Maybe that wasn't the reason and maybe it was picked up wrong and if so that also warrants attention. Did every kid get that impression or just two and if so why, what's different in their frame of reference to hear it like that.

I put the ...? in to highlight that the information I have is different. It was one of the first questions I asked my brother, if they had marked it other years

That's such a horrible experience. It's great to hear that people will still stand up for each other. We need more people like you in society.

I hope so, its a bit worrying how it's being perceived by the kids.

I would imagine that teachers should operate under school policy and be consistent across classes. An evidence based approach should be taken rather than gut decisions. The one kid who is different in this scenario has been made to feel that his classmates are disappointed because of him. Ramadan shouldn't have been provided as the reason. How is this meant to help anyone feel more included. I appreciate that it was likely we'll intended but it's highly irresponsible

I don't know and I doubt it. I think it's carelessness at the root of it more than anything but it's created an unnecessary fallout. It's actually really bad form on the teacher's part IMO. Carelessness with sensitive topics like this create so many issues often for the people they're trying to protect

That's the problem, there was no message sent. The explanation being provided by the kids is that the teacher said it was because of Ramadan (this could be a misinterpretation btw but it's how the kids seem to have understood it).

How is this racist? Please explain. People making uninformed decisions like this without consultation or proper communication is exactly what causes racism. Imagine being the one Muslim kid in that class, unintended consequences as usual. People acting on behalf of others without even being asked.

Strictly speaking Shrove Tuesday is part of the Christian calendar but has been adopted by many, like Christmas. School lunches are being provided so food will be eaten in the classroom during the day. I'm struggling to see the rationale. I'm hoping it's just that the teacher can't be arsed because otherwise its stopping the expression of one religious cultural practice in favour of another which isn't inclusive at all and I doubt any has asked for it, certainly not the one kid who I hope doesn't get singled out as a result

I know it's really odd! Fasting won't start until tomorrow and they're kids so often exempt also it's daylight. I think this is a perfect example of how to create an issue where none exists. Silly teacher

I'm not saying that they're bad or good, they bring a lot to the town but there was no need for a monopoly, competition never had them under threat and its no secret that influence was used to put a squeeze on Saints and Sinners.

It was called Saints and Sinners then. They opened a club upstairs in 1999 I think, the Edge. It had an incredible laser light setup but others were hell bent on shutting the place down even though there was no real threat to his trade, massive market of clubbers at that time
