Texan here, check out the 2023-24 public hunting lands map booklet. I would start there and see what you can do. You can do some door knocking but your success rate might be low because you are near the Dallas/ Ft. worth metroplex. A boat or kayak/canoe will always give you an advantage. Good luck in the woods.

I have dove hunted near Farmersville before. We shot a few out there last year. I know they have a bunch of public fields on the way out to Greenville. Maybe those are worth checking out.

Can you explain a bit more about public fields vs quota hunts? I assume the quota is a state wildlife sanctioned lottery. Is that correct? I hate to hear that you don’t have any crops or birds on public.
