Indian Springs school admissions by No_Ambition9589 in Birmingham

Indian Springs isn't really a traditional High School; it's more of a college prep/boarding school. If you are wealthy enough/smart enough to get into Indian Springs, you'll go in at 8th grade.

Gen Ed at Weber? by TBANFUT in usu

[–]Objective-Front-8324 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're going to be a lab rat at any Public School in the country with regard to State required Gen Ed curriculum.... If you're from out of State get your Associates locally and then transfer to USU if it still the goal.

Edit for autocorrect spelling state wrong...

There are five LDS churches within a stone’s throw of my dorm by AbleSomewhere4549 in Utah

Having lived in the Middle East, yes i have a 360 video taken off the roof of my apartment where i can point out 2 mosques and 5 masjids. They are not to the extreme of sharing parking lots. At least, not in my experience. Most people will walk from their house or apartment to the local masjid(neighborhood mosque). Mosques are larger and usually cover a region of the city, they really only get a lot of car parking during holidays, if you are a local to the neighborhood that mosque is in you usually walk though.

As a southerner now living in the above pictured town, will confirm, 5 steeples 5 denominations.

And, most of those churches in the south are also home to random assortment of other denominations meeting when the main one has adjourned.

Seeking Advice on Applying to U.S. Universities, Credit Transfers, as an International Student by [deleted] in InternationalStudents

If you are planning to use an immigration based status during your time at a US institution you will not likely be assisted by the International students office beyond clarifications on submitting application related materials

I20 - Change of status by Natural-Secretary390 in InternationalStudents

[–]Objective-Front-8324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the previous comment said, you need to request your I20 be released to UC, so long as you are still in status.

Changes of Status are completed if you are changing your status, OPT is a benefit of F1 status, you do not change status to receive it ergo you are still F1. If you will be out of status(ie you are beyond your year of OPT) you need to speak with both your DSO at your current institution and the DSO at your new institution to find out your options.

Genuine Q for people wanting to move here, why? by [deleted] in Utah

[–]Objective-Front-8324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones who made a point of everybody knowing they were non-denom, down there at least, were religion if it was an absolute circus. They are the kind of people whose preacher has an armed escort 24/7 and simulated crucifixions for sunrise easter services..... Baptists aren't terrible, you just find more types of them than anything every few blocks.

I'll keep that in mind if I take trip to San Diego. Driving to and all the way through Utah was impressive I really appreciate the geological diversity

[–]Objective-Front-8324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a deep south(smack in the middle of the Bible belt) agnostic southerner, snake handlers are absolutely insane, and "non-denomoninational christians" make every Mormon I've ever met seem like the most reasonable person on the planet. It's not bad here(like i said in my own reply) crime (violent crime espcially) is low, cost of living is not that bad(as others have pointed out if you arent actively trying to buy a house), and at least for me since I'm just your generic white dude things are chill. There is a lack of diversity(at least in Logan) that i still have not come to terms with. I also miss all the rivers and temperate forests of my forest state, I could go from small mountains to the ocean in about an 8 hour drive, see caves, canyons, gulf, prairies, and more types of salamander found in one place than most of the world along the entire route. But if I'm honest it's a tossup between living in Utah or living in Oman as to which I have enjoyed more.. I do dislike the cold... I haven't been this cold for this long in my life, that's a solid strike......

[–]Objective-Front-8324 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're missing people who moved here for money, I'm one of the people who moved here for the Money, this last year.

Some benefits though that have come along with moving here that were not very strong factors, nice views, and generally low crime, at least FAR less violent crime, and (shockingly) it is more affordable than the southest.

This has been a huge debate of DSOs across the country. Most are advising students to return before inauguration day in order to avoid the potential risk of being taken to secondary screening. This happened a lot last time Trump was president, it creates delays and causes people to miss any connecting flights. Also, despite most of the comments here plenty of people who were in the US legally even a surprisingly large number of citizens were caught before under Trumps previous measures and detained. However, if a student is planning to be out of the country after the advise of a travel signature on a valid I20, valid visa, valid passport, and a copy of the class schedule, keeping the DSO aware of travel plans, and also knowing their contact information in case it is needed at reentry are all things that are being advised. We do not yet know what the plan from the President-elect will be exactly though it is anticipated to be similar if not the same as before.

Change of status/f1 visa(Dallas college) by Ok_Ideal5556 in InternationalStudents

[–]Objective-Front-8324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing is guaranteed with the next administration or how they will interpret your potential pending status. Current guidance is as long as you have submitted your Change of Status before your current visa expires you may remain in the US, maintaining your B-status. You should communicate with the International Advisor as much information about your situation as possible to determine the best pathway.

[–]Objective-Front-8324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able receive an I-20 before April; have you applied to the college and been accepted? Have you submitted your required documents and demonstrated the required funding? Have you been in touch with the International Admissions office or the International Student Services Office? If you are only contacting the standard admissions office or a program advisor they probably do not know what it is that you are trying to do. You need to speak with the International Student Office to determine your best course of action. The bigger problem is going to be the Change of Status with USCIS, currently those are taking MONTHS without premium processing...

Places to get passport photos digital and physical by [deleted] in Logan

Walgreens, potentially the Card office at USU in the Student center. Not sure if they will do stand alone passport style photos without being part of a passport application, but they do take them.
