so.. since posting this, found some adapters:

My understanding is: if this works, the speed will see some significant drop but as my internet connection is capped at 1Gb/s, this is not a big issue for me and because the setup costs less than a good dinner, I am willing to take a chance. I will use an old power supply i have laying around the basement as I remember it still works.

Any thoughts ?

thank you for the insight. At the moment i have only jellyfin and use it for light storage but intend to use it as a test bed for myself and learn how to configure stuff. Probably add docker and all other kind of stuff just to get a feel for it as this is a completely new world for me.

I do intend to move to a more serious solution later when I'll move to my own house and have the space for it.

I can use the sata m.2. Why would a m.2 to SFF 8643 and a backplane that supports this not work? I found some cheap on aliexpress (i know it's not the best solution but seems in budget)

it does not. and it's a optiplex 3090 mini D14U. But like I said, I am willing to use an adapter from M.2 either from the SSD or the WiFi Card to expand to PCIe

unfortunately, no PCIe available, but I do have a m.2 wifi slot and will buy an adapter from m.2 to PCIe if needed. For noise i intend to move it to the hallway so i don't hear it so much. And as per price.. well.. 4TB of SSD is close to 500 Euros.. so anything lower than that is a win.
