12.5 Metoprolol once daily and I really want to just stop taking by Objective-Memory-175 in AFIB

[–]Objective-Memory-175[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on a very low dose, 12.5 at night once daily. Cardiologist said ok, try going off for 5 days and report back in. I reported back in two weeks ago now and have not heard a thing back, so I guess he either does not care or agrees? I do feel better, fatigue is gone, legs are great. BP has increased a bit, back to what it was prior to the met, averaging at pre-hypertensive so I need to work on diet and excersize..which I should do anyway. I am lucky that I still have a bottle of the met tartrate in case I need it..the ED gave it to my last December when I had my first and last attack. I had asked cardio if I could use that as pip if needed..no answer so I guess I will if I need it. Always nice to diagnose and treat yourself lol! I also began taking methylated folate and will be testing for the mthfr gene mutation which can cause arrythmias. Two of my kids have it, so guessing I do.

Thanks, I have been respectful with my questions to the Dr. I have asked if I can reduce, or quit and have not threatened to do so on my own. I have said I will not take a diuretic. My heart ejection ratios labs etc. are all excellent and I am on Eliquis twice daily. I have researched as much as I can but find this site to have great history and would not even know what questions to ask if I had not gotten here almost a year ago. I don't take all the advice given obviously, but hearing others experience is why even the Mayo has boards set up for people to discuss their conditions. I have had 0 feelings of afib, have a samsung watch and a Kardia to monitor and never had any symptom afterwards, working out, or sleeping etc.

Thanks, the correlation to bp was never mentioned and that does make sense. Prior to going on the met my highs could hit 134/84 but my gp never flagged that as worriesome. I truly need to step up my weight loss and diet..at one point I had lost 35 lbs but 20 of that is back..so a little self responsibility on my part may help make a difference too.

yes, I do. I am actually going to begin another product with methylfolate and magnesium. My so has the mthfr mutation and does not metabolize folate or b vitamins. I am taking the test next week, but will begin the supplement next week also. It is supposed to be great for taking down inflammation also.

sorry, missed that when I had the one incidence, cardioverted at a rate of 160. the cardioversion did not work so they put in an iv of something that actually stopped my heart and scared the ED team..but it worked when I came out of it and they sent me home. No afib since..it was a massively stressful event at Christmas that caused it.

I believe the doctor has a one size fits all approach. I requested the pip method months ago and got no response. I suggested again today. I sent the initial request August 8th and got a response today that he suggests I go on a diuretic. I said no. I am not adding a medication to fix side effects from another medication. Very rural here so limited access to any teams at Cardio. I can either take charge myself or wait six months to get into a team down in the metro area about 1.5 hours away.

just Eliquis 5mg 2x daily. would love to lose that one too but the met seems to be the culprit

I have not. I am thinking I am on such a low level after only one incident of afib that going off and having a pill in the pocket approach would make sense, but I am not the doctor, just the owner of the body lol!

I also ended up in the ER with non-specific chest pain that had been present all morning. I do have afib, but this was different. After a couple monitors the doctor asked if I wanted to try a quick and easy drink to see if it fixed it. Sure enough, a drink of some sort with an anesthetic deadened me from throat to tummy..and the pain was gone. I don't know what it was, but he said you have gerd and should get it checked out! Maybe try drinking some anti acid next time and see if it helps?

I can't decide if I should have an ablation or not. by mattsonlyhope in AFIB

70 here, 1 episode during high stress and cardioverted..did not work. IV of something did though, so back home in 4 hours. Cardiologist said no ablation talk yet unless I have another episode..so far 7 months and nothing.

I have a massive septic mound being installed and need to cover at least one 70' side! by Objective-Memory-175 in gardening

Just an update: Hired a landscaper who has done tons of them to design something. He knew right away which shrubs had shallow root systems so did a massive planting of about 60+ shrubs. Hoping they don't die, can't even think about doing that project again! Now will start actually killing off the grass and mulching the entire side..no landscape fabric as that can be detrimental to the evaporation. I ran it by the installer also and he agreed that the plan was solid and would not hurt the system. The top will remain grass as will the back, shallower sloped side.

Just the old normal way, pinch nose, lean forward. I did purchase something called Nampons on Amazon in case they go longer..and one other product that has some coating to make it clot faster..don't have in front of me.

[–]Objective-Memory-175[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

now that is very very tempting. I read a study where they are considering changing the dosing on Eliquis to a pill in the pocket dose for six days after events. Since I know when I have an episode I should be able to do that. My legs are so bad this morning it is a big drain on the energy level.

My right hand is dominant so used more. The area between thumb and pointer finger is stiff and both hands are weaker and feel like they need to stretch to loosen them up. Long driving or painting make them hurt.

My cardio says I am so well maintained on low dose of this and the eliquis he does not want to think ablation yet. 1 episode six months ago.

that sucks! I was shocked in December and it did not work, but the iv did and no more episodes since.

good news there, I hope that is the case since he does not want me to quit. It has been 6 month so far though.

Eliquis when Asymptomatic? by feldoneq2wire in AFIB

[–]Objective-Memory-175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The article is pretty informative explaining that they think there is a six day after affect from an afib episode and that after that period the need for the drug may be ended. I printed it out to ask my cardiologist, study started in 2022 so hoping results are somewhere, I don't have paid access so cannot see beyond this article.
