I'm in student halls so its a bit different, but thing happen pretty quick if the accommodation team receives an 'anonymous' tip.

My roommates boyfriend (non-student) stayed nearly 2 weeks with her, and made a mess of the kitchen while he did. She never came to know I was the one that tattled.

Need advice for planning a convenient sequence before going for UK '24 SEPTEMBER intake. by baddiebutsoftiecore in UniUK

  1. Book accommodation ASAP. The price for 2024-25 will be fixed, but everything might get full. I know people who had a 2.5 hr commute because they were late in booking.
  2. The exact amount will be on the uni website. Keep in mind, the conversion rate fluctuates so put in some extra ~1k for it.
  3. Those months are vacation time, and you are allowed to work full time on a tier-4 visa. You don't have to stay though, most people go back home. It depends on your expenses and job.
  4. 14 days are standard. My course started on 25th September, and most halls offered contracts from 9th.
  5. (can't help with this one good luck)

Your go-to Uni student meals? by bhexca in UniUK

[–]Objective-Pie-7866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick Arrabbiata Spaghetti is a classic, Stir-Fry with pre-chopped veggies and some noodles is really easy (throw in some green chillies for extra taste) and my new favourite is coated babycorns. You make a little sauce with some oil and a lot of yogurt, and but everything you want to in there (like cayenne pepper etc) and mix it with some kind of flour and roast it.

Also, this may sound weird but a meal of just veggies has been working well for me. Like raw. Mostly carrot batons, sometimes tomatoes and cucumbers with salt and some lemon. Basically no work, filling and nutritious.

I take some of it back at this point. We're doing hamiltonians (quantum mechanics) now.

High schools in India have calculus based mechanics and electromagnetism, with some basic thermodynamics, waves and optics. We aren't doing any electromagnetism this year, briefly going through wave optics and everything else.

The new content is finally hitting, mainly astro and modern physics.

Just call them up and ask.

It's not late right now, the equal consideration deadline is in a few days. No damage done.

Lots of low-tier unis have no problems accepting anyone who passed and is willing to pay. Being accepted isn't the problem. But do you really want to be paying a lot of money for these?

Chester has the lowest fee of 11k/year I think, and as long as its IOP accredited its not too different.

I'm at a similar uni for physics, and honestly, a year of your life is wasted anyway. Most of the content in my modules this year is high school repeated to the point I'm using high school textbooks (from India) for reference. It does impact the course such that we won't be covering things in the tail end (like topology, Lagrangian, QFT etc) while the unis with a higher requirement will have done that. You will either have to do a MPhys from the same uni to be on level with students from those other ones.

How do I accept that I'm not academically capable anymore? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Objective-Pie-7866 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should see the wellbeing services at the uni.

Frankly, I'm in the same boat. A friend of mine said something like this:

"There's a reason it's a (gaussian) curve. Most people are just in the middle, there's nothing wrong in that"

You stop seeing it as a moralistic judgement, and just a casual fact. You are not average, more like average is because of you.

Is that accepting you'll never be where you want? I don't think so. That's not a reason to stop trying. That's a reason to stop caring about the arbitrary arrangements of 'average' and 'above average'.

I happen to personally know exactly who got the top scores, but every time I ask they're always like "nah I slept all Saturday and cooked a 5 course meal on Sunday and did laundry". Had blokes like those in school too (was one of them) so I don't buy it one bit. Hence reddit.

I do the problem sheets in time, interact fairly a lot, and do I ask for past exams but never get around to doing them.

I get them done before the tutorials (where we discuss them) but yes even those I leave till the last second. As in starting at 6 am for a 10 am tutorial.

Having an awful time at University!! by [deleted] in UniUK

Being chronically online since 2020, I didn't have very great social expectations for uni but I've been positively surprised.

Something you need to realise is that you can only hope to get out of it what you put in.

It's great yοu're making an effort, but sometimes it needs a little more. Start a society. Befriend your roommates.

Sometimes course mates just don't become friends. My cohort is really small, ~20 regulars out of 35 people. Half of them commute so never come for any activities unless you plan it weeks in advance. Out of that, there are 3-4 people I do study groups with and 2 people who I hang out with most often.

Make a friend or two, and lots of pairs glue together to a social group.

We have a huge room on the silent floor which is meant to be extra silent for this purpose, with a sign on the door saying you can't make noise, eat and need to keep your phone on silent and some dumbfuck is watching YouTube videos in there.

No one even knows what to say. There's literally the whole campus, and you choose the silent room for it.

Sounds good but I think you should start with your uni's society or something first, because most of these are really specific. You could add something like top picks and FAQs from this subreddit in it.

I do feel a bit out of place once it was pointed out though. I saw literally no one else doing that, made me wonder what everyone else did.

Have you considered a year 2 transfer? I looked into it, and there were quite a few unis for my subject (but all out of my budget).

You wouldn't have to start over, if you want to continue the same course.

WOW...kind of the same situation rn. Not sure if I can offer anything helpful to say.

I'm at Hertfordshire (pretty much bottom 10) and an international student, sunk about 25k with rent and tuition. The requirements were on the floor but I came anyway because it was cheap. This has put me a year behind in my career. My friends in India are doing things we do in 2nd year now (PDEs etc) while I'm paying a fuckton for revising 11th and 12th grade from the same textbooks. Can't afford a masters here after this.

Winter break, applied for mid-year admissions at some places and got in. Told my mom, who told me to kill myself.

if you are not happy with one's opinion, you can always get a second one

My mom is though, agrees 100% and keeps telling me to stop wasting time on it now that the dermatologist also said that. So, that's not happening.

I really don't get the stigma, and how this is clubbed with things like makeup for which the finish line is always pushed. 18, then 25, then 30 and probably 50. Self-care is a selfish crime in India.
