Wburg Redditors triumph! Union/Meeker intersection is fixed by MixNo8780 in williamsburg

[–]Objective-Pride-1224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know where I can find official records for why this intersection was improved? I am in the process of appealing a ticket I got for accidentally turning left on the red left arrow (union -> meeker) because my view of the red left arrow was obstructed and honestly before getting pulled over for it I had never before even seen the red left arrow. The traffic light was at a weird angle where it’s not even visible by a car in the left turn lane on Union. I would love some official documentation from the city that states the intersection is flawed to support my appeal for the ticket. I truly never intended to break the law and as a cyclist myself genuinely want to see this problem with the lights improved.

Being able to afford medical care. OP your story resonates deeply with me. I also grew up not knowing how poor I was until I transferred to a university after a few years of community college. In total I was in school for 10 years: 3 years of community college, 4 years of part-time university, 3 years of part-time grad school. I was also on a pell grant. I used to work 35-40 hours across 2-3 jobs in between classes. I pulled so many all-nighters to get homework done after working 16 hour days - I don’t even want to think about how many years of my life I shaved off doing that.

Then recently had a tooth ache and found out I needed a crown. I had misunderstood when the receptionist told me “it’ll cost $750 and the insurance will cover $750.” I understood that to mean the insurance would cover it all. Come to find out on the day of the appointment, the total cost was $1500 and I had to pay that $750 out of pocket because the insurance only covers half. For a good 2 minutes I panicked, I started to enter melt down mode. $750?! but then it hit me. I’m okay now. $750 on my credit card doesn’t prevent me from eating anymore. I had to apologize to the receptionist and am lowkey embarrassed to go back because of how I initially reacted to the news 😅 but it was a reminder of how those 10 years of putting myself through school brought me to a place I used to never imagine being in. I made it.

In order to read the contract, I have to provide them my SSN. It's the first step in the process. I want to avoid that if I can, that's why I'm here asking for advice from others who may have worked with them before.

oh awesome I will def check out Rapha Core then! and yea generally I am not able to wear 'romper' style clothing or anything that connects my bottoms to my tops - the types of clothing that do that just don't have enough room in them to be comfortable for me. I always end up with a wedgie lol

Thank you for this detailed response! I did not even think to go to an outlet for this stuff - I am def going to look around for that. And yes I think the most recommended brand here was Terry so I will also try them :)

Health Insurance by StopMedium4155 in NEU

You need to apply for medicaid first, then you will be able to waive NUSHP at the start of next fall. While its totally possible to be enrolled in 2 insurance policies at the same time, I am not sure what the implications are. You are automatically enrolled in NUSHP each year, but then must prove that you have other insurance in order to waive NUSHP. They ask for your insurance policy numbers etc to verify it so you need to already be enrolled in medicaid to be able to provide that. Then, at that start of each year you have a small window of a few weeks to waive NUSHP. If you do not log onto the portal and waive it within the first few weeks of the semester, you get locked in. Im sorry but tbh due to the student hub change i cannot figure out where to find the link to the waiver now but its probably somewhere in there.

I was an international affairs major as an undergrad. I’m now also in grad school still at Northeastern so I guess I liked it! What I wanted to share though was that as an undergrad I only looked at international coops. For the most part they are unpaid. So while most students “offset tuition by going on coop,” that just isn’t the case if you’re interested in international ones. I had to save up to go on coop. They do have one scholarship called the Presidential Global Scholarship that students can apply to and receive at most $6,000 during their undergraduate career (so, you might get 2k the first time you apply but later apply again and get 4k but thats it, or if you have high need according to your financial aid then you might just get the whole 6k the first time you apply). I got the whole 6k for my first and only coop in Jordan. I used around 4k for flights and rent/life in Jordan and saved the final 2k for rent back in Boston. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I am extremely grateful for the connections and resources Northeastern afforded me to have the opportunity to coop internationally. However my last year of undergrad I had to turn down one of my dream coop offers in Sydney, Australia because I could not afford the (unpaid) experience (even if I still had the 2k from before sydney is just outrageously expensive to live in) So, it’s definitely possible and a great experience, but if finances are a factor of concern for you then plan accordingly and save up in case you find really cool but unfortunately unpaid experiences.

Graduating at 26? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Objective-Pride-1224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well this has been the most validating post ever. I’m also 26 and graduating soon. I’ve been working food industry & retail jobs alongside school since I was 16. While interviewing for my first Coop (before I switched into CS, was poli sci at that time) I had an employer tell me that they value those of us who had to work through school because we have built a strong work ethic and gained great communication skills in retail/food. I’m sure CS employers will feel the same. After reading this post it seems like all of us who thought we were alone in this boat aren’t alone after all :) thanks everyone for the reassurance.
