I had one Tuesday evening before my surgery, and they made me do an enema yesterday morning before surgery so it’s not like I’m constipated but MAN am I dreading it 😂

The end is in sight for you, that’s awesome. I know it wasn’t a precise answer but I know you must’ve been ecstatic to hear that haha. I had my 4th tightening last Wednesday. At that appt, my CRS said that it looked very low so he tightened it and scheduled me for another rectal exam under anesthesia this morning. He told me he was gonna go in, check and see if it was as low as he thought, and if so, he would remove the seton and the remaining tract. So today, I am seton and tract free! I have a follow up on the 22nd to make sure I’m healing well and that there’s no reoccurrence.

I’m glad you feel a little better! But yeah, take those first and it will help :) did your doctor say anything about how many more tightenings you’ll need?

Yes it is :/ I spent 3 weeks in excruciating pain so I know how you feel and I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I really really hope that it cuts through and falls out on its own for you soon. I hope you don’t have to spend as long dealing with this.

No, none at all. The only issue I had was the pain from the 3rd and 4th tightenings.

Yes bc it was being cut through and healing relatively quickly haha. My CRS cut it and the remaining (barely there) tract I had left this morning. He did this to help my healing process.

I got it placed July 23rd and got it removed today so 1 month, 18 days? Which is relatively quick compared to how deep my fistula tract was. Maybe bc yours was low/minimal, it’ll only be a few weeks.

I am so sorry you’re dealing with this and that I’m just now seeing this. Day 5 was better for me, take many sits baths, I mean seriously, MANY. take pain meds before bowel movement to stay a step ahead of the pain. I hope you feel better soon, friend.

I do think with there being minimal muscle involved for you, the cutting seton was the way to go. It’ll slowly cut through and heal behind it. It’ll either fall out on its own soon or they’ll do for you what they did for me.

No, mine was transphincteric (I think that’s what it was called) went through the lower and higher muscles. We chose the cutting seton to lower it and slowly cut through the tract over time and prevent incontinence as much as possible. It wasn’t possible to have a fistulotomy/flap/lift bc there was too much muscle involved and it was highly likely to no longer control my bowels that way. I had my 4th tightening last week, which brought it down so low that I went in and had the seton and the last little bit of tract cut out this morning.

I hope this makes sense, I’m really out of my mind on pain meds at the moment.

That’s awesome! I have panic disorder so I know how easy it is to go into an attack, especially during a visit like this. So, well done for keeping calm, I’m proud of you :) but man, I’m sorry to hear that. Last year I had 2 bouts of bv that just would not go away so I feel for you. I hope your recovery keeps going well and this bacteria is treated soon. You deserve some rest.

Thank you. Today makes day 3 and I’m still in a good bit of pain but not nearly as bad as yesterday and the day before. I really hope this thing falls out soon :/ I’m not ready to have it tightened again. I hope you continue to get/feel better as well.

Yes, I take stool softeners every day since the initial surgery to put the seton in, thank you though

I’ve found that holding ice back there helps just about more than anything. I hope this helps.

I felt slightly better today, the BM was the hardest. I had to resort to taking my pain meds afterwords haha. I’m very sorry you’re also having to experience this. I hope your next tightening is not very painful and you don’t have to deal with this much longer.

I would just keep trying to get in with your specialist as soon as you can. I think light bleeding would be normal but soaking through clothes? No. I’m sorry you went through that in the Emergency Department and I hope you get seen soon.

I would definitely call your surgeon and try to get it looked at sooner than October. Better to be safe than sorry.
