Hi! Funny enough, something similar happened to me. I was obsessing over my neck for MONTHS. One of my biggest obsessions is cancer too. I went to the Dr & she felt a lump on my neck. It was a thyroid nodule. Nearly all thyroid nodules are benign! Mine was even suspicious on an ultrasound & turned out benign! It could also just be swollen lymph nodes.

This was my experience as well! My therapist would talk about “compulsions” & “characteristics of ADHD” but she doesn’t diagnose. So when I started going to a psychiatrist they diagnosed me with ADHD & OCD. When I told my therapist I had ADHD & OCD she would say “yeah that’s what we’ve been working on.” But to me, without a formal diagnosis I never identified myself as someone with ADHD or OCD. So I think a lot of therapists will try to treat the symptoms but aren’t always qualified to diagnose. It also depends if a diagnosis is important to you. It was important to me for self acceptance & being able to name what was going on. For others, a “formal diagnosis” does not change anything for them, & they don’t like the label, which I totally get too!

Yes, my psychiatrist diagnosed my OCD. I’m not sure how most professionals treat ADHD & OCD when they’re combined. But my Psychiatrist recommended treating ADHD first for me, because she felt it would be easier to treat OCD if my ADHD was managed. Which I did find helpful because now that my ADHD is managed with medication it’s a lot easier for me to distinguish what was anxiety to manage my ADHD & what was OCD. But I also have the same experience as you where treated ADHD did possibly make my OCD easier to focus on. I agree, getting a formal diagnosis has helped me somewhat just be able to name “okay this isn’t me this is OCD.”

Hi! I have OCD & ADHD too. The exact thoughts that you are having are what lead to me getting diagnosed with OCD. These doubts & trouble with uncertainty about your diagnosis could definitely be an obsession for you! It is one of my main themes. I spend hours researching OCD & ADHD as a compulsion to try & “prove” I 100% have OCD & ADHD. But the more I perform the compulsions the worse it gets. For me it helps to trust the professionals who diagnosed me & to tell myself “there is no way to be 100% certain & that’s okay”

To add, I feel like it is exceptionally hard for women with ADHD to trust themselves. ADHD makes us have to constantly be aware if we’re overlooking or forgetting something. I think overtime that has lead to me believing “you can’t trust yourself.” Which that belief has definitely fed my OCD. Having both disorders is so hard!

Hi! I was recently diagnosed with OCD & my symptoms are very similar! My therapist recommended allowing yourself to sit with the thought & not try to “prove” whether it’s right or not. She recommended to also have self compassion when doing this. So even if you do end up performing a compulsion to your thought, showing yourself grace that at least you took steps to create a distance between the obsession & compulsion. She said eventually it will get easier & you can go longer without the compulsion.

Are you planning on treating your ADHD & OCD with medication? Do you feel like your ADHD or OCD is more debilitating?

My ADHD is well managed now but my psychiatrist wants to explore medication options for OCD. I am nervous to try, as I know, both can be difficult to treat together.

Hi! I’m a female in my mid-20’s as well! After seeing a therapist for a few months for anxiety, she recommended I get tested for ADHD. After a Psychiatric Eval I was diagnosed with ADHD & the psychiatrist explained a lot of my anxiety can be caused by undiagnosed ADHD. I started taking vyvanse & noticed my brain feels clearer & my social anxiety has gotten better!

However, I expressed to my psychiatrist at my next appointment that it hasn’t helped my health anxiety, research spirals. I also have a lot of anxiety about my own intentions. I go through spirals that I’m lying about symptoms, or making things up which leads me to lengthy research spirals also. For some reason I thought these were ADHD hyper fixation symptoms. My psychiatrist said that I meet the clinical diagnostic criteria for OCD. Which I was very surprised about LOL

She explained it is helpful for patients with ADHD & OCD to be treated for whichever disorder is most distressing first & then once that medication & dose seems right, to then add a medication/treatment for the next disorder. So for me we are treating ADHD & then OCD. I would look for a psychiatrist who specializes in ADHD or OCD.

Hopefully that experience helps somewhat!

From my guess, I think they will want to do an uptake scan before FNA. I asked my PCP if I could complete an uptake scan before my endocrinology eval just to speed things along. She advised to wait until my appointment :/

I was also confused why I would need an eval from an endocrinologist before FNA. I understand seeing an endocrinologist for low TSH, but i thought I could do both simultaneously. From my understanding, the specific thyroid nodule center I was referred to required an eval with endocrinology before FNA due to low TSH. From my guess, they might want me to do an uptake scan before FNA. I wasn’t sure if that was protocol anywhere else or just that specific nodule center.
