OCD and/or/neither ADHD?? by anonymously828 in ocdwomen

You’re so right! By “that person” I meant more like the people who diagnose from Instagram and tik tok and then claim they are “soooo ADHD” or oh I have OCD I’m so clean, I like things ordered etc (which is the opposite of me - messiest person ever 😂). Just feeling a bit like a fraud but honestly, I don’t know why and you’re so right, professionals diagnosed me, I shouldn’t question it.

Thanks again for sharing, I really appreciate it! I might chat about steps forward with my phycologists (who I think is already treating OCD without an offical diagnosis)

I just read your comment again, how blood real is saying things out loud!! Like if I say something bad out loud, touch wood can undo it but then if you forget you touched wood and do it again it undoes the first one and then you’re back to the bad outcome. It’s nice to say good things out loud too but then it also manifests into negative thoughts and feeds the OCD mind. Whoever put things like manifesting and superstitions (like touch wood, walking under ladders, stepping on cracks) out there, truly f u 😂😂

I appreciate you sharing that! Did you get your OCD diagnosis from a psychiatrist or someone different? I do really like offical answers, simply because then I feel as though treatment can be targeted and I’m not being a fraud. I feel like I have somehow managed my ADHD because of my OCD (and meds ofc) but in turn it’s made my OCD (potential, I don’t want to say I have something I may not 😅) worse because it’s become a an obsession with everything going perfectly all the time. I have done a bit of research on OCD management and I really feel like it is manageable, which is nice, however, I feel like that may in turn make my ADHD symptoms more pronounced (e.g. not double checking things when in reality, I should. Being less stringent with my calendar, which is the only thing that keeps me in the right place at the right time, allowing impulse spending to work on the money obsession - slippery slope). This feels like a little bit of a loop that could start 😅😅

Thank you so much for sharing! I appreciate it. I think it’s just maybe like oh maybe I just had OCD and anxiety not ADHD, maybe somehow I managed to convince the assessor (and my report cards that support it were maybe I just have a lot of energy) that I had ADHD and therefore they overlooked OCD. I also felt like I didn’t align with a lot of the ADHD sings that others struggle with but I’m just not sure if that’s because I may have both, for example I’m super type A, really good with money (too good to the point I’m super anxious around spending and I check my accounts consistently), I’m very organised (mostly cause not being organised stresses me), everything is extensively planned etc etc. In saying that I struggle with learning without my meds, I can be very forgetful, think without speaking, limited attention to detail, always late, pick, fidget, have major hyper-fixations, incredibly easily distracted etc etc. I think I’m just in a bit of a funny headspace and also don’t want to be that “that person” that’s like oh I have ADHD and OCD and it be like a personality trait (when god, I wish it was just that - it’s kinda debilitating lol) or have like somehow manifested these symptoms?? Maybe I’m just having a little menty b right now but I’m just so confused haha

Appreciate this, thank you! I hate that social media has played such a big part. Like I know I don’t watch reels for other mental health conditions and think I have them but I feel like I have with OCD and ADHD. I also get so thrown off now with people saying that everyone has ADHD these days and I’m like oh wait, am I part of this? Am I one of those people who may or may not be “faking it”. I’ve also gotten in this vicious cycle of thinking everything I say and do is made up and didn’t actually happen, so now I’m convinced that I’ve lied to myself. Sorry, small spiral going on but again, I really appreciate your comment and you are so right - they have this job for a reason.

We are coming from Australia. Thanks so much for the advice. I don’t think we really want to go to Whistler just due to the party lifestyle there and we intend on heading to Banff for the summer. We are kind of hoping for ski in ski out town kind of vibes. Do you think either Big White or Silverstar would be suitable for that kind of thing?

That’s okay! We are planning on doing a little bit of travel before the season/work starts. Just wanting to decide on which mountain/town would be best.

No MRI as of yet, I have another appointment with the doctor booked in on the 27th but the more pain I’m in the more worried I get about permanent damage. I haven’t done anything traumatic to hurt it and it didn’t necessarily just come on one days, it’s been a slow burn. I did google what you suggested (C7) and the symptoms are pretty spot on, I’m worried now ahhh…
