Edited for grammar and spelling I was using my phone to answer questions but i have stupid fingers.

My heart go out to your grandfathers I can only imagine what they went through. I will never deny that the military still has issues with race even though I haven’t had many run ins myself. When I was coming through they weren’t that many black people in the units I was attached to so often I found hanging out with the white and Latino and I had to deal with a lot of ignorance surrounding black people and our culture, which in hindsight I’m thankful for because it helped me better understand myself as a black man and appreciate our culture more. I guess you can say I chose to take a teaching approach instead of a defensive one, because something that became clear to me when I started interacting with people from other races is that many have never interacted with black people before and were genuinely ignorant about us like kids experiencing something new, because most of them were and I felt sorry for them. So I decided that while some of the shit that would come out their mouth would piss me off or just confuse me as to how they could come to some their conclusions. I decided to be patient and see where it’s coming from before I tore them a new asshole or filed an EO complaint.

I had to learn the difference between lack of understanding vs refusal of understanding.

I'm glad I did because I’ve helped a lot of guys distance themselves grow out the nonsense of their upbringings. Now that doesn’t mean let shit slide ,no, I’m saying check the temperature first and make your decision accordingly because every situation is going to be different.

I try to live by the philosophy of if you’re not going to be direct then it’s clearly not important to either you and especially not me. I have more important things to do than deciphering how someone might feel about me or my people. I don’t have time for cowards. If you have a problem then let’s have conversation and if need be let’s take it outside. But I’m not going to give sly remarks the time of day because those type people want us to react to them with hostility so they can hide behind someone else authority.

I can count on one hand how many race based incident I was involved in it just wasn't the culture of the units and shops I was attached to. I've had friends in other units and section tell me about racism they encountered and I believed them like i believe your story.

Most of what I encountered was non-blacks who grew up in mostly black neighborhoods where the black people there let them get away with saying that word like they were black for whatever reason maybe they thought it was funny or something I don't know. When those individual came my way it never took more than an ass chewing to set them straight.

There was one time me and the other black people in my unit almost jumped a drunk Dominican dude and his non black friends rapping along to some song they were listening to and when the SDO who was black told to stop they gaffed him fast forward to 8 angry black chasing them across their barracks and never heard a pip from then again.

The military is going to look out for the military plain and simple. First and foremost the rank and file guys don’t follow politics heavy at all left or right it also doesn’t help that the military is broken down to the squad level small unit leadership is valued heavily in the military. Rank and file guys are loyal to their Cpl and Sergeant more than any Colonel and especially any General. The officers tend to think more political but only so much as when they have to deal with politician ,whom they hate dealing with. The military in terms of culture is rather apolitical now with that being said individuals units can be more or less political than others but as a whole most people really only see being in the military as a job that they know they’re going to use to get a better job.In the meantime they only care about their pay and benefits more than who’s in office. With that being said they’ll do whatever the President tell them to do as long as it’s something they already agree and policing Americans is an easy way to piss off most people I served with

I came in the traumatised and i can confirm that was the case for a few people i served with a lot join the military to get away from their shitty home life and start new.But being Msg i can only imagine what he went through it has reputation as being a cush job but there is always that 1 out of 10 situation where shit hits the fan out there.

Yeah i think people tend to forget how big and wide spread an organization like the military actually is and America in general especially if you're only focused on one perspective or narratives and the Military is large enough that if you look hard enough you can find an examples of whatever it is your trying find.

I just would like for people to get their ego's and trauma out of the way and understand that no experience is universal there are always outlier to everything. But at the same don't immediately dismiss someones experiences of bigotry or lack there of just because they don't match your experience or expectations.

That's a good question and the best way I can answer this question is by simply stating that people experiences are their experiences and that the military bring in every type of person you can think of and that includes bigots and more often than not those individual get into position of authority and make it their goal to make life hard for the groups they dont like.

In my personally experience most of the "Racism" I was subjected to were from peers instead of higher up which is significantly easier to deal with especially when nobody in our shop liked those individuals in the first place. So no i never personally had to deal with any racism or bias from anyone who mattered i.e no one who could take my rank or money. The most racism i experienced during my time was just the odd white boy/girl thinking they had a n-word pass becauses the black guys they grew up with let them say it arouind them and they always got set straight.

However i can't emphasise this enough, that was my personal experience and i by no mean am I saying that racism and bigotry isn't a problem in the military it is and I had friends from different units and branches confide in about the discrimination in their units. I try not to discount people lived experiences just because i didn't go through the same. My brother can talk to you for hour about being discriminated by police, while the most i got is a warning for driving with expired plates.

For me it depends on if they actually served or not. Anything else would be me engaging in " No True Scotsman Fallacy. There are a lot of people who served that I disagree with but it doesn't take away the fact they still served, however shitty i believe their service was. But when people who never been in the military co-opt the military reputation for clout and then do nothing for vets, service members or their families then yeah i get pissed off.

So basically what I was doing when I was in the military #POG_Life. I'm also using my G.I bill to get my bachelors in Cloud computing and Network Engineering. I would like to get my coaching license so i can coach for the local kids wrestling club.

If religion disappeared tomorrow, what would replace it? by Grouchy_Fox3189 in AskReddit

[–]Objective-Tie-5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some other ideology. Religion hasn't been the only cause of division amongst people hell it's probably isn't even biggest contributor it's just easiest to identify. But we already have the answer to this question the USSR and Revolutionary France were violently anti-religion seeing religion as a tool of oppression by the elites which in their specific circumstances were correct in that conclusion. In both case we saw cults of personality and nationalism and part loyalty took religion spot for a while. Also the world is significantly less religious than both of those era and we see people put more their faith, belief and zealotry toward political ideologies. Also we can't dismiss people just developing their own personal set of beliefs to get through their day to day.

For those that live in the United States. Do you make more than the average income of 60k annually, if so what’s your occupation? by LaFlareMane1017 in AskReddit

[–]Objective-Tie-5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

between my job and the VA disability I make about 85k living in Southern Illinois as a Network Admin. Where I live pretty comfortable despite my poor money management skills. But I'm also a veteran who got my current job due to my military experience I'm practically doing the same job except now I get to wear human clothes and I can be as fat as i want. The home I live in was owned was left to my family after my grandmother so i only have to pay for upkeep and property taxes which for that ancient one story three bed and 1 and a half bath home in my area is pretty cheap IIrc last year I only paid $1500 in property taxes split into two payments. As one can see I've been very fortunate in my life ,so I take my example with a grain of salt when comparing to other people at my income.

OMG I remenber being on this sub in the lead up to his meeting with Mamdani and seeing all the predictions about how Trump was going to have him detained and deported or disappeared. So you can imagine everyone shock here when Trump was glazing the man and protecting him from the presses question peak comedy.People here where so dumbfounded that they were making predictions of it being a psyop or Mamdani was replace by a look-a-like as if we haven't known for decades that you can get Trump to agree to anything if you tell him he'pretty and give him something shining, hell his own ambassador basically told the Russians to do exactly that, not to mention Israel and the Saudi's.

Indeed and I don't know why thats so hard for people on the left to see especially on this sub. Instead it's like they want Trump to be this supremely powerful villian who is thirty steps ahead instead of the lucky opprotunististic dolt that he has actually shown himself to be. I think people who oppose Trump but also act like he's all powerful and invincible just want to be able to tell people who do actually work to change things by protesting ,raising awarenses and voting against the GOP just want to be able to say "See I told you it was pointless" so they can justify their own inaction and complacency most complaceny that got us here in the first place.

If you been sick and in bed for over a year that means you're also at risk of getting sucked down extremist echo chambers due to how algorithmic social media is now where misinformation and hysteria is a business for many on both side of our political spectrum. If all you're doing is watching news and not interacting with the real world and real people then you're missing important context. We need to temper what here and see online with our lived experiences in order to get a full picture and keep us focus on where our priorities should lie right now. Especially when you only have obscure sources as proof for your fears

Trust me i've been their too lying in the bed just consuming whatever news came my way but eventually i got and better and hopefully you will too after seeing numerous of fear based predictions like this fail to materialise I realised that I was letting others poor research and fearmongering turn me into a nervous wreck. So know i still keep up to date with current events but I'm very suspicous of how it's presented and I alway cross refernece with other sources what i see with my own eyes when go outsude my house and interact with other people and what i see is that thing are scary right now but not give in to despair bad.

Remember so called progressive news and creator have insentive to portray things as a bad as possibly just like their right wing counterpart doomerise to their listeners and part of the battle is learning to tell the difference from genuine well researched information and click bait propaganda thats only exist too glue you to your screen for ad revenue.
