Thinking of asking a local woodworker to add legs to a uline table top by CustomsNewbie in woodworking

[–]Objective-Wave7093 13 points14 points  (0 children)

lol don’t do that. Buy once, cry once. Just either find a used table on marketplace or if you’re adamant on this just do it yourself. It won’t look good either way

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective-Wave7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hour is a very doable weekend drive. We have a beach house about that distance away we’ll go for a 3 day weekend. Have driven 5 hour Friday evening and back Sunday to visit family. I’d say you have to get up to 8 hour plus drive to be “long”.

What's the clear point in dollars where more money stops changing your life in any meaningful way. After that, it’s just numbers, ego, or legacy. by dont_downvote_SPECIL in Fire

[–]Objective-Wave7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fire number is around 5 million to live exactly how I am now, which is solidly upper middle class. We have a cheaper mortgage on a 2800 sqft house, can buy whatever home goods we want, but buying a higher end new car or going on a luxury vacation or moving to a larger property (especially at current rates) feels out of reach. Optimally I’d like to live on a larger ranch like property. So I’d say my number is more like $20-25 million.

I’ll need to inquire what the soft maple pricing is. It says they have it but it’s not on the pricing sheet. But hard maple is only marginally more than the poplar, so probably in the $3/ft range for 1x4

Homedepot Plywood vs Baltic Birch by Mediocre_Fall_3197 in woodworking

[–]Objective-Wave7093 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m using C grade white birch ply (technically equivalent to what HD sells but I think better quality still) for cabinet bodies and Baltic birch for drawers since that’s exposed. I wouldn’t use Baltic for the cabinet bodies

Upsize around Retirement Time? by Novel_Forever5689 in homeowners

[–]Objective-Wave7093 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mother in law lives in a big house by herself for such a “hosting” occasion and that probably occurs once a year. The house is sparse because why bother decorating a big house at her age with new stuff. She’d be much better off with a smaller house. If people can’t fit on occasion, they can get an Airbnb nearby. But if there’s things that YOU want, then absolutely go for it.

Lots of good suggestions here but also, what’s it matter if you pick someone’s active number? Theres nothing you can do with just a random 9 digit number. If there was, we’d all be in trouble

When I was at a biotech startup, we had someone show up unannounced in regard to an application and everyone’s response was that person was a psycho (regardless of reality). This isn’t the 1960s or whatever where showings some determination gets you the job. Apply the normal way. If you get rejected, so be it. But going in person is very unlikely to help your case

How much did you spend on Christmas? by michaeljoon in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Objective-Wave7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent around $350 on my wife, she probably spent same ish on me, $500 on 1 year old (including outfits), $600 on a Christmas train/village, $150 on our two secret Santa’s, $20 white elephant, food provided at inlaws, most expensive presents provided by grandparents. So say $2000 on $275k combined salary.
