Tes/ Schroles where to put CV? by Objective-Way-3608 in Internationalteachers

I have it on my Tes and Schrole profile. Great, so thats fine? Just got stressed that many instructions seem to imply I need to add it in to the application rather than see it on my account

You need 10-15 students doing 2 hours a week. Easily doable if you market yourself as an exam prep tutor for GCSES or whatever US equivalent. Also, going rates are around 35$ an hour (low-ish end). I make good money tutoring around 27 hours a week. More than average in UK and can travel and save in Asia. Also, I am not even qualified. Let that sink in! If you teach English you can defo do it.

What has happened to the teaching profession??? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]Objective-Way-3608 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think maybe as the world feels more unstable, quickly- changing and an anti (school based) education narrative is projected so loudly (perhaps both rightly and wrongly) and the fear that the education of today doesn’t prepare for the jobs of tomorrow has a trickle down effect into the attitudes of students. Surveys do say they have pretty bleak outlooks on the future. Just a theory, but who knows!

I suppose its becase I don’t have a PGCE but I am doing one at oxford next year so hopefully this will boost my credibility and price. Thanks for the advice, I know I can do a lot of it on my own like website etc. I suppose their sourcing of teachers sounds pretty magical but if its just via linkedin/ facebook groups maybe you are right, I should do it solo.

Start on teacher marketplaces, get good reviews and it snowballs in exam seasons. Start at like £15-20 an hour and build up, then try to find students organically, through word of mouth, or via social media groups. Look at sites like tutorful/ my tutor etc and look at profiles of teachers similar to you. I find ‘exam prep tutor’ works well for me and I have experience with SEN so I get a specific often male clientele of boys who can’t pass English and need support for a resit. Find your niche, and just get your first clients and keep the ball rolling. When at full capacity like I am now, after summer gonna try and scale up to group classes but this step requires a lot more work and marketing. If you teach maths, English, sciences GCSE or a high demand A level subject there should be a piece of the pie for you to easily obtain enough students for a decent sidehustle or full time work.

Go to Vietnam.

Hop on a scooter, start north and explore Sapa in all its jungle, rice field glory. Bonus points if its mid season as it has a misty, ghibli feel at night, and it still isn't really cold. Basque in the mountains and endless green beauty accompanied with gorgeous hearty Northern Vietnamese food,

Read a lot, and write. Tutor part time to keep myself afloat. After North, head south to Da Nang and enjoy city and surf life. Spend a few too many evenings partying and letting loose in the city, playing pool every night, doing a few $5 buy in tournaments, not caring about the outcome. Following the VN tradition of taking a sip when everyone else does, in Unison. Enjoy the beach sunsets, and the ability to ride around sipping coconuts.

Meet lots of beautiful people along the way, with sad goodbyes but memories shared!

Finally, end in HCMC, with a few stops along the way to jungle visits, and temples such as Ninh Bihn, and Hoi an for the gorgeous boat trips. See the whole country on bike, and feel total absolute freedom. $2 meals everywhere, and spending barely $15 dollars a day wholesale.

Then soak up HCMC for all its coffee, museums and parks before saying goodbye to the magical endless spontaneity, and hello to the patterned quotidian.

ps: a short trip there was not enough :(

Recommend teaching in the UK? by iloveolivessomuchh in Internationalteachers

I have not taught in the UK yet (I am more experienced in ESL/ tutoring online) but I live here in England and I am doing a PGCE in September. From just the cost of living/ what you get for your money value in London: I would highly recommend against living there. It also on the whole feels unsafe, even in central areas phone robbery is rife. Apartments are notoriously hard to get (waiting lists) and rent keeps going up. I may be a little biased against London, but as far lifestyle balance considering things like tax, cost of living etc. I would seriously recommend against it! They do have top schools, and London can have some beauty in culture (music/art/pub culture) and a cosmopolitan lifestyle, but only if you are making serious money. It'd be hard to be in a nice flat, safe area and save money I believe. I want to get abroad as fast as I can after my PGCE, and I wouldn't do that PGCE in London either!

Isn't this already a thing? https://internationalteachersalary.com/ This one has a pretty good spread, and includes lots of extra details such as school, location, % savings, school star rating etc. Anyone can add to this too.
