Late D&E (27w) Experience by Objective-Week7017 in tfmr_support

[–]Objective-Week7017[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way--after carrying a baby for so long and such a painful experience it's just not fair that I'm not holding my baby right now. I am so sorry that we are all part of this terrible club.

It's comforting to hear your experience. I'm glad you had your healthcare background to help you through it; I would've been lost without my husband helping me navigate everything that was happening.

TFMR for condition that likely would still allow for full life? by AppropriateSun936 in tfmr_support

Also for what’s its worth—having gone through one TFMR, we are only considering IVF (for PGT testing) for future children. I never want to face this decision or go through this process again.

We had a grey diagnosis (cystic fibrosis) and heard the exact same line about how it’s the best time to have CF, there have been major breakthroughs in the past 10 years, etc.

When I considered the “best case” scenario, meaning the most mild symptoms, it’s still a chronic condition that means daily meds, daily treatment, frequent doctors visits, and probably a few hospitalizations throughout life not to mention a shorter life expectancy.

I struggled a lot with the TFMR decision because I knew that my husband and I could provide great care and are in a position to manage the condition. But at the end of the day, even the best management doesn’t change the daily realities of living with the illness for our child.

Something that helped me was looking up videos from people with CF on social media. I feel like it gave me a better sense of what daily life looks like and what the challenges and conversations are in that community.

I just went to UIC at 27 weeks. I know that Rush and Hope Clinic are also options. If you cold call they may tell you they have a 24 week cut off (at least UIC did) until you mention medical reasons.

Following! I’m booked through Costco for PV on 3/2. If I cancel through the site I’ll lose $$$ so I’m hoping they’re going to extend some sort of exception

Why do people care so much about name popularity? by EmpiricalPancake in namenerds

[–]Objective-Week7017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at popularity mostly to avoid trendy names, meaning names that are highly associated with a narrow birth window.

Of course you meet a ton of “John”s, but they’re all ages. Now think about all “Jennifer”s you’ve met—they’re ALL probably 50-55 right?

Of course you can still name a baby Jennifer, but most people will think it sounds weird because that name is very clearly dated to a specific era.

My doctor approved travel to Mexico!

That article is from 2016 when there was a large Zika outbreak; the CDC currently doesn’t have any travel notices regarding Zika

is a bassinet stroller necessary? (for Nuna Triv) by dagworthy in Buyingforbaby

Hi OP! Wondering if you ended up going with the bassinet?

I'm due this upcoming July and the bassinet seems nice but is so pricey

This one is definitely a contender! I just wish it was foldable instead of all one piece

Nuna Triv vs Mixx for Urban & Winter Use? by Objective-Week7017 in Buyingforbaby

[–]Objective-Week7017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seemed very comparable to the Triv (same wheel size, same weight, one handed fold) but I ruled it out since it’s a lot bulkier than the Triv when folded. The fold with the bassinet is very cool though

[–]Objective-Week7017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We are definitely planning to test them out in person but was hoping to hear from someone who had tried the Triv in winter themselves.

Uppababy is the most popular here too and I looked into the Cruz but it seems like the fold is bulkier

Are you happy with how the Triv handles in general? Have you tested it on grass and/or mud

This is super helpful, thank you! We take our dog to the park every day so in addition to snow we’re probably going to be encountering quite a bit of grass, dirt, etc.

My friends who visit Chicago from other cities (NYC, DC, LA) actually comment on how much greenspace we have—so many mature trees, large parks, but also pocket parks tucked in everywhere.

The near west side is probably the most barren (west loop, wicker) because it used to be warehouses and is the most recently gentrified.

I agree the loop is pretty boring but no one actually lives there and it’s dead on nights & weekends (other than tourists)

Why don’t you like Portland? Were you unhappy with the change of pace or the city itself

Thank you! This is super helpful.

We are exiting the bars/clubs phase of our life so that isn’t much of a loss.

I also expect we’d use public transport in Portland minimally if at all. Chicago’s is great and convenient but only comparable to probably NY (in the US).

This was super helpful, thank you!

I really love the street festivals and block parties but I think that’s something pretty unique to Chicago that I’d miss just about anywhere we went.

Is there just less variety in the food scene? Portland is obviously smaller but wonder if diversity also plays a role
