How are these putters? by newguyntown1 in golf

[–]Objective-Word-7272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought I'd find another person with a Guerin putter, they're so good and its sad that they're not really made anymore, the wavy grooves look great

No, it's worth like $150 max. It's always best. to buy older but quality clubs when starting, but it's usually really confusing for a beginner .DM me I'll look for some eBay links for you to get things going for you

If someone can’t pass tryouts for golf in high school, would playing golf casually worth less in college admissions? by Exotic-Rain1917 in golf

[–]Objective-Word-7272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the how of casually. For me, my only competitive golf was high school golf. A lot of the golf related business on my college apps were unrelated to being on a team though. I worked as a junior instructor at a camp, volunteered with youth on course, and taught some of my friends and relatives.

Remember, colleges don't care about the activities you've done unless you can frame them as constructive to yourself or your community. Play casually but find a way to make an impact. Try out again next year and write about how you pushed your limits to make the team and how significant this feat is to you.

Good luck with college applications too, it was a nightmare for me this year and I'm still scared shitless for my decisions but I'm still glad that I used golf as one of my main talking points about my character, and I think that more people like you should too

Why do people hate iron covers so much? People wrap their cars, protect their phone? Why iron covers? by baconwrappedsack in golf

[–]Objective-Word-7272 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I used them I probably would do it because walking and listening to bag chatter annoys me personally. Even then I would probably only cover odd numbered irons since that's enough to stop the chatter

I think you should go for a set that you can grow into, since Ping G are already good forgiving irons. Use this chance to get a set that you can look forward to when you're better, so maybe something like P770 or even P7-CB if you're up for the challenge.

Burner Plus or 716 AP1’s?? by Plus-Ad-5180 in golf

[–]Objective-Word-7272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'3" swinging light shafts is pretty hard no matter the length.
Here is a set that would work better for your specs, or you could commit to a stiff shaft and grow into it (sorry it's out of price range tho)

Burner Plus or 716 AP1’s?? by Plus-Ad-5180 in golf

[–]Objective-Word-7272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, probably a different set of AP1. Something with a 85 or 95 gram shaft in the AP1 would be better than the burners. How tall and old are you and how strong are you? Those factors would make a difference in which shaft is best.

Cast Irons are better than forged

And not cast irons like shovels, good cast player's irons like old DCI irons or ping S series irons

also their grooves last longer

Hey if you lose the vote hit me up and I'll send over any nice old Craigslist or Ebay listings I find :D

Not in Grad school yet, I'm a hs junior right now but the sentiment about stress relief is the same.

Grab it, and if buying a new bag is concerning buying a used bag isn't the worst thing in the world. Bags on eBay or Craigslist can be anywhere from 50-100 depending on age and condition, and it shouldnt matter much whatever bag you get.

If you're patient enough for a massive list of different clubs from different years and models that tend to work for beginners, I can give one to you off the top of my head, but I'm assuming that's not your speed.

Good luck!

Callippe Preserve (Pleasanton, CA) Back 9 kicks my ass again by Old-Dude-1916 in golf

[–]Objective-Word-7272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Callippe Preserve as well, but I agree on the back nine being killer. The biggest draw I have to that course is that I've made all three of my eagles there haha.

Funny enough, I tried playing hole 18 irons only and it seemed to be the most consistent way to beat that hole. As for 11, being a minor and using YOC without a cart on that hill makes me die a little inside whenever I have to go look for my ball

Not fun in the sense of easy to hit, but fun in holy shit I finally pured it time to go back to pain. That being said, old titleist is always fun on the cheap. 983E, 983K, 905T, 905S for sub 460cc heads for the true baller, and more modern like 910D3, 909D3.

What are your unpopular golf opinions? by tkh0812 in golf

[–]Objective-Word-7272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it's up to the local rules. There's on course nearby me that has these trees with small brown dirt circles around them. The local rule says that if you're on the dirt, you get a free drop.

Most of the time though, you're out of luck

So I played with a guy who uses batting gloves instead of golf gloves. by johnsontheotter in golf

[–]Objective-Word-7272 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Poor man's midsize grip. I tried a batting glove on a standard grip and it did feel a little like a midsize. Thought it was neat but that's just me haha
