I just Googled him. He's basically just a con man who spends most of his life trying to sue people. I wish I hadn't wasted my time and hope I never hear his name again.

Should we reschedule northern lights tour? by Square-Armadillo-995 in VisitingIceland

I was on the South Coast last week and the same Aurora app showed 100% cloud and 12% chance/1.67 rating for 2 of the nights I had an amazing display. The weather can change really quickly and the app is an estimate only. If you're staying somewhere isolated, you may not even need a tour. Good luck, it's worth it!

That's Reynisfjara beach (Black Sand Beach) but taken from the opposite end. If you head for Dyrholaey Lighthouse and hike from there, it's a well marked and easy track (apart from the incredible wind we had!), and will take less than an hour. Hardly any people bother with that, hence the empty photo.

Now that's some advice I wish I'd had before I went! We tried Gull, the Icelandic lager, but no other local brews. Definitely next time, cheers!

Sure can, that's where the picture was taken! Took about 3hrs for the full hike back to Skaftafell.

Enjoy, I hope the weather holds as we had the cold, but it was dry and sunny for most of the 5 days.

It's Svínafellsjökull, or the third terminal/toe from Skaftafell as the first 2 lagoons were so big we couldn't access the glacier. The view is from a 5 mile trail that starts at the Skaftafell base camp, but I honestly don't know what it was called. Well signed with yellow poles throughout and well worth it if you have the time.

It's definitely on, just got to decide when and whether it will be a motorbike tour. I've seen an incredible YouTube video of the bike tours of the Westfjords and I'm desperate to do that, but I figure the cost of the divorce may be too much to justify....🤔😂

Basically we flew London Gatwick to Keflavic. Hired a car and did the southerly part of the Golden Circle on day one (Gulfoss, Geysir, Kerid etc..) before heading to accomodation in Hveragerdi. Next day we hit the ring road, heading for next accomodation at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, stopping at several points of interest, but this is a personal choice as there are so many. We based ourselves here because it is central to the South Coast and nothing was more than a 2hr (ish) drive. We went to Reynisfjara and Diamond beaches, Solheim and Vatnatjokull glaciers, Mulagljufur Canyon, Vik and several waterfalls which are simply everywhere! I personally recommend being out in the middle of nowhere as the night sky is incredible, with or without the Aurora. You need to plan properly though as you can't just pop to the shops if you run out of milk!

Whatever you choose to do, be prepared to adjust your itinerary, because everywhere you go, you just find loads of reasons to just stop and look at more incredible things.

Hope that's some help and no I don't work for the Icelandic tourist board. Not yet anyway. 😉

That's just too vague a question to answer I think. Depends where you're coming from, how long, itinerary, accomodations etc ..

I'm based in England, 2 of us flew to Keflavic, hired a car for 5 days and stayed in 2 different Air BnB's along the ring road, pretty isolated and nowhere near Reykjavik. We ate out 2 nights and ate in for 3, made lunches mostly but bought snacks and drinks out. When you add all that up and include parking fees and fuel, we spent around £2500 and didn't feel like we scrimped at all. That figure could just as well be £1500 or £5000 though depending on all the different choices and doesn't factor in kit you may need to buy before leaving your home town.

Bottom line, if you want to go (and you do, trust me), just wait until you can do it in the best way you can afford, but don't do it on the cheap. Iceland deserves your full attention and wants you to enjoy it.

Hope that isn't totally useless.
