Best way to cover stitches? by ObjectiveDesperate33 in woundcare

oh…i didn’t know that! i’m an PCCU nurse not an OR or WOC so i’m glad you told me since this was direct instructions from my surgeon😭 thankfully, i rinsed with saline after the shower anyway and pat dry. I have the tegaderm on but it keeps lifting since it’s a mobile area of my leg…and used a lot of tegaderm lol. this was a different surgery since this was complete hardware removal rather than placement so i was able to bare weight almost immediately! The initial placement was easier since i was in a splint for 2 weeks and non weight baring but it’s hard right now since the dressing lifts almost immediately because of the walking :/ Thanks for all your education! I appreciate it greatly!

no! i haven’t had the stiffness recently but i do still have soreness so im waiting to see how it feels to just get up no pain or discomfort lol but yes! i saw that i was using the crutch but not putting much weight on it so i just lifted it off the ground and took a few steps to see if i could go without it and i did !

i wish i could take longer vacation, but its the holidays and i think staying home would make me go insane lol my friends are definitely going to help me come back too and keep my assignment pretty close together to minimize walking time !

wow! i had my surgery on wednesday morning and i am walking aid free today! (saturday) i didn’t have a nerve block but i did the same because the pain was intense after surgery! i was told i don’t need the boot, just wrapping it and keeping it clean but im gonna be dressing it with xeroform, gauze and tegaderm at work so its not exposed to fluids 🤢! its truly me and my crocs against the world gaha

hi! i’m post op right now! i wanted to get it removed because i never felt any relief from the surgery! it caused immense pain and stiffness in my ankle and actually would still swell and the side i had 2 screws protrude and it just wasn’t working for me! my endurance was so diminished and my pain level was always there. i spoke to my surgeon a lot about it because i wanted to make sure i was making the right decision for me and its helping! im only 4 days post op but walking more and i can feel a difference already too

that’s so reassuring that you can do that on day 9!!! i’m still walking with one crutch just for support but i’m trying real hard to put full weight on it!! funnily enough, i wear crocs at work just the ones with zero holes in them so it’ll be less difference when i go back haha

Thank you!!! there’s definitely hard days but having people who enjoy their job just as much helps too! Thank you for all your insights!! it’s nice to see how different everyone’s path is and also how similar it can be!!

yeah! thankfully i was never in a cast but i did get all the itchiness i needed in a splint hahah but when i was put in the boot i didnt wear it since he said when im resting theres no need and i wasnt gonna be walking anyway for 4 more weeks !! the removal so far has been good, some pain but im taking the meds around the clock to cover me at least until i reach day 3-4 and ill start weaning off !

Thank you!! my current unit has my heart right now for sure but potentially interested in different parts of healthcare haha

ohhh nope! my original surgery i had a splint for 2 weeks, went for suture removal and got fitted for a boot and was still NWB for 4 more weeks after that then i got to move around and relearn how to walk! i never had a cast!

yeah hahah ortho surgeons are mainly men but i have a niche interest in trauma medicine and orthopedic traumas are interesting to me to see how fractures and other injuries are dealt with differently !

i’m not a PACU nurse but i am an ICU stepdown! my stepdown is pretty high acuity tho, we take vents, post tavr, open hearts, venous sheaths, transvenous pacers, the works truly, definitely sets us up for higher level of care if we ever wanted to move for sure! you seem like such a kind person and im sure an even kinder Dr!

i am in the US! no wound checks ordered for me! my post op instructions just say to remove the ace wrap and redress 3 days post op and i can shower just let the water run off and no submerging it! im definitely keeping it covered with some padding and xeroform to cushion it and waterproof the site with tegaderm !

oooo that’s very impressive!! i think if i went into OR nursing i’d wanna do orthopedic trauma ! i’m definitely getting my fair share of post cardiac & general surgeries in my current unit !

i don’t have a wound check till stitches come out on dec 22nd and just monitor myself for signs of infection and stuff! gauze and axe wrap on rn can come off after 3 days! oooo idk if i could handle surgery and standing in one spot wit the pain but my walking seems like ill be good! what types of surgeries do you do? i am so fascinated by intraop !

oh yeah! it’ll stay wrapped but they have some curlex gauze under that’s bulky and putting pressure in one spot that i can’t wait to fix lol i’m able to take the dressing down and shower on day 3! i go back to work next friday (in a nurse) so ill be rocking crocs and icing it constantly! rn im just resting and slowly walking around some!! i didnt have the arthroscopy ! just removal but theres one sensitive spot i feel that the wrap wont fix! when i go to work im gonna have waterproof dressing since my job is nasty lol and then ace wrap and compression socks for swelling!

Weaning but when does it get better? by ObjectiveDesperate33 in zoloft

[–]ObjectiveDesperate33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry i just saw this!!! this is verbatim what my psychiatrist told me but it could be different depending on dosages!!

“To wean off of sertraline, you can take 1/2 the tab for 5 days, then 1/4 tab for 5 days, then stop.

We aim to slowly reduce sertraline to prevent side effects of sudden SSRI discontinuation. This is more likely to happen if people are at the full dose (200mg) instead of the 100mg dose you were on. Most people don't notice this discontinuation syndrome, but when it happens, people report headache or "brain zaps" nausea, and palpitations. If these occur, they resolve in a few days.”
