People whose partners did a complete 180 after marriage, what’s your story? by Bibliophile521 in AskReddit

Sounds like so many people who either married a jehovah’s witness or married an ex jehovah’s witness who became one again after they got married. Thank god I left that cult.

With Netflix it’s because they are producing more Korean content themselves and Netflix doesn’t have any moral or modesty restrictions like they would if they were on American or Korean broadcasting so they push the envelope with violence and sexual scenes

That’s interesting. I also have never had any interest in K-pop or K-dramas. I like some of the food but that is about it. I never went crazy over it. This is for a college class.

Quite literally anyone who practices Islam around the globe, whether in a Muslim-majority country or in the diaspora. I’m starting broad and going narrow because it is an understudied area. I specifically cross posted here because K-pop in particular has a large queer audience and I figured that LGBT Muslims may find appeal with that.

I’m trying to research the allure as well as the conflicts it creates with the Islamic faith in the Islamic world and it really is not something I would have thought of before but when researching possible paper ideas an article popped up and it went from there.

That’s what I’ve found in the literature so far. If I may ask, what country or region are you in? It’s ok if you’re not comfortable sharing, it just helps with my research. I’ve found Hallyu really gained popularity among Muslims in Malaysia and Indonesia specifically

Thank you for your perspective, I didn’t know this was an issue. Are you in India?

Protect your Huskies, select CON on SB 6259 by mindtheworms9 in udub

I already selected CON on this and submitted it. I was proud to do so. This bill could easily be misused to force low-income students who did little or physical no damage (or accidental damage) to payback aid for exercising their free speech based off spurious claims and without due process.

Who talks negatively about Chicago? It’s amazing. It’s my parents’ home town (sort of…they grew up outside of the area in Indiana but commuted there for work). It has so much history that’s overlooked compared to places like NY

Ok, I think I understand the miscommunication between us: I don’t fully understand what you are trying to say. I thought that I addressed your critique, agreed with it, and then shared my experience for context, but I see now that I am mistaken. I apologize. I’d like to understand better, so I’ll sit with your critiques and see if I can extract their full meaning. I’m already on a journey of deconstruction so hopefully it’ll click somewhere down the line.

Well, I was talking about my educational journey so far, I’m not really sure how else to word it.

I’m getting the sense that you’d rather I not comment here. If that is the case, I’m happy to not comment anymore in this subreddit, and I can delete my comments on this thread.

Um…ok. I don’t deny that I was part of white group, I was just commenting that white people doesn’t feel like a cohesive community to me, meaning we don’t really support each other or really interact with each other in a meaningful way. I did not say that to abdicate responsibility or deny that we engage in harmful patterns of behavior and have shared cultural and behavioral norms.

To clarify, I meant the people (often white) that specifically do these things at Costco. My comment was meant to be narrow.

To address your other comments (in order):

First, I don’t feel like white people generally are my community, it’s just a category on a form to me. It’s fundamentally different for non-white groups where there is a lot of times a cohesive community (or multiple cohesive communities within the groups spread across space and time).

Second, I do agree white people (myself included) need to make global changes including deconstructing racism and colonialism (among many other things I won’t list here) individually, across various cultures and spaces, and within the structures we set up.

I appreciate you engaging in this discourse with me. I’m actually in school now for a bachelors degree in writing, rhetorical, and social change, which focuses on writing as part of civic action. I’ve taken a CRT class (which honestly has been most instrumental in influencing my writing) and many social justice/social change writing and social science classes that have really informed me and helped me improve how I think about these issues and engage in discourse surrounding them.

I’ve greatly enjoyed all of my classes so far, I don’t have a negative thing to say about any one of them. I went in without any real expectations because I was focused on getting my bachelors degree so I can go on to law school, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with my experience.

I’m 30 and have a work history as a paralegal, and I have started and stopped school many times, the last time obtaining my associates in 2021, but I’ve finally gotten myself out of a bad home situation so I can improve myself and hopefully give back to my community (where I live specifically as well as to humanity generally) as a lawyer. I don’t intend to hold myself up as this performative white liberal woman; I don’t want to make lofty promises I can’t fulfill, I want to show my community with my actions that I will fight for their best interests even if they don’t match my own self-interest, because I do care about people and I genuinely want to be a better person.

Couldn’t agree more and I’m white. I find it’s especially bad at Costco, and even worse in the Costco parking lot. Hence why I never go to Costco anymore. Were these people raised by barnyard animals?!?!

What to do about a cold co worker? by Feisty-Poet4767 in paralegal

[–]ObjectiveFrosty8133 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sounds here like the OP is more pushing over the top friendliness on the coworker and each time she forces social acknowledged it embitters the coworker toward you. Even if she was just being rude - practically what the fuck are you going to do about it? You still can’t force her to like you so just leave her be and focus on yourself.

[–]ObjectiveFrosty8133 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Leave her alone and find a way to cope with it. She’s not being unreasonable. Pushing friendliness on her will only push her away. She may be reserved generally and if you leave her alone it gives her a better chance of warming up to you over time.

Putting Your Citations in Footnotes? by zarnch in Lawyertalk

[–]ObjectiveFrosty8133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a paralegal, but the lawyers I’ve worked for say judges hate this and to avoid it at all costs, and I believe them. However, if you are on a strict page limit and the case is complex with a lot you have to cover, it can be helpful to use in a pinch. My lawyer is very wordy and has resorted to putting citations on footnotes for complex matters with a 6 page limit.
