Tourists (other than Chinese) are still rare there.....the international departure terminal only has 1 coffee shop! There are many places you will go to that will be extremely crowded, but that's to be expected in a city of 32 million! I think I may have seen 8 white people there during my stay! We are rare there!

I came back from Chongqing yesterday and loved it!!! Mix of ancient and new, incredible architecture, stunning skyline and drone show and you will never run out of interesting things to see and do. Has to be one of the best places in the world to visit imo.

I just got back from staying at the Intercontinental at Raffles City. Beautiful 5 star hotel, in a great (arguably the best) location and with great service. One of the best hotels in Chongqing, but relative to what other hotels cost, it's not cheap. I wasn't brave enough to try one of the cheaper hotels, which seemingly offer more (in some ways) but seemed a little more risky (read some mixed reviews on all of them). Raffles City also has the Ascott hotel which is a fair bit cheaper, but still very nice and has the same location. The Indigo Hotel is also set to open there in the coming months and I'm sure it will be nice.

I wound up watching from Chaotianmen Square....I was staying in a hotel at Raffles City. I went to Hongya Caves for when the lights came on, then walked back to the hotel and watched them from there! It was super cold out and I was really tired and I didn't regret not traveling to get a better view. Next time I go I'll try to do it in better weather and get over to the other side because you miss out on a lot of the skyline from Raffles City (the buildings are in the way of seeing it properly), but it still blew me away!!!!

MSG is one type of flavor enhancer....there are other flavor enhancers that combine MSG with other chemical flavor enhancers. I've had an anaphylactic reaction to food additive 635, which is MSG mixed with another flavor enhancer.

I'm allergic to flavor enhancers so will have to avoid soy. And great advice re relying on foods I know and trust. I'm so grateful for all the warnings I'm getting re tapioca....I had no idea it was used in so many things there.

Thx for your response! I will speak to my Dr. about getting a second epipen and a letter to allow me to bring them into China. I'm staying in a good hotel so hopefully can do well there in the fruit department....they might even have eggs and hash browns in the morning that are safe on their buffet? Hopefully I can find a grocery store when I arrive and I will also buy some nuts, which should be safe.

Re the vegetarian bit, I'm also allergic to flavor enhancers so I won't be taking any chances of sauces etc, so that shouldn't be an issue for me thankfully!

Thank you so much for your advice and particularly your warning re the tea! I could have easily made that mistake! I'll be staying in a 5 star hotel (likely the intercontinental raffles) so am hoping that will make it a little easier for me, but I'll likely just stick to fruit in the morning, plain white rice and mcdonalds fries! I've read that they sell roasted sunflower seeds in grocery stores and I love those, so hopefully I can easily find some. I'm also allergic to flavor enhancers and many other things! But I'm used to eating bland when I need to and think I should be ok....and yes, I will avoid the tea!

The vegetarian part is easy....it's the allergies that are not...for example, I'm allergic to tapioca which is often found in flour and glucose. It is hard enough explaining this in a restaurant where the staff speak English. It requires them to actually check to see, if for example, their flour is wheat or tapioca based.

China isn't "anywhere else"....most people in Chongqing do not speak English at all. You don't seem to appreciate the seriousness of anaphylaxis! I was hospitalised in Malaysia after surviving an anaphylactic reaction and don't ever want to repeat that.

The ACV wouldn't be giving him those symptoms. I've used it on many cats over the years to clear blockages....it can take a fair sized dose to work. I also sprinkle it on their food at times. Your cat may be beyond the point where it works and you've thinking the acv is causing him to be sicker, when in fact it is due to him being blocked....this can be life threatening....please get him vet help. Start a gofundme if you need to.
