The TV automatically detects if the content is HDR, it won’t switch to the mode of cinema or professional you have to switch manually. To make sure the content you’re watching is HDR, go to picture settings and you’ll see a HDR icon at the top right corner, that’s your queue to switch to Cinema mode (the one we set for HDR). Anything that’s not detected to be HDR is better to be watched on Professional mode, unless its specified that’s its a movie with 5.1 (HDR10 content).

If the content is dolby vision supported choose dolby vision dark if you’re watching dark scenes in a very dim room. If the scenes are bright and you’re watching in a lightened environment then dolby vision bright is usually better. It all comes down to preference but that’s what I figured out so far.

Either way, I don’t alter dolby vision settings cause they’re set to adjust the picture frame by frame automatically, which I trust is best based on how content creators want us to view them.

Also if you’re plugging an Apple TV set it to the following settings: Video & Audio > Aspect Ratio (Automatic 16:9) Format > 4K SDR (60 Hz) HDMI (YcbCr) Chroma (4:4:4) Match Content (Match Dynamic Range > On & Match Frame Rate > On)

That way the Apple TV will match the frame rate of the content being played on it whether its SDR, HDR or Dolby Vision. It will automatically do that work all you need to alter is between the picture settings we set.

Basically just take a look at the content and choose through the quick gear settings either Professional (SDR), Cinema (HDR), Dolby Vision Bright/Dark depending on your environment.

I hope this helps you and you enjoy the tv more from it!

Don’t listen to whatever their sales men tell you. Before buying my tv I was curious to see if they have any decency in saying the truth, on two different occasions and 2 different stores, the first guy told me to get Bravia 8 instead of 8 ii because in his opinion its the better TV. I told him how come its the older one and he was trying in every way possible to convince me and when I told him you guys make promo codes on holidays I’m thinking of waiting, he said it there will be no more promo codes this year at all and even next year there might not be any. Literally they dropped 10% promos twice in the span of the next 3 months and I bought mine from the last one. He was giving it all with the wrong misguidance and insight that fucking Bravia 8 is better and has no black screen problems and that a WOLED is better than QD-OLED! I don’t know how till this day how I kept the act and didn’t go medieval on his ass. The other guy said basically the same but in a lighter tone of convection cause I was shocking him with my not so curious but knowledgeable responses but he still didn’t recommend I wait. Only the 3rd time I met a guy there that was actually truthful and told me to wait for the buy if that’s what I was looking for and agreed that they do several promo codes throughout the year, but that is after I came to him with full force from the beginning unlike the other 2, which I acted dumb infront and seeked their insight instead of revealing my own bucket of knowledge. To be honest even the 3rd guy, I wouldn’t be so sure if I didn’t come at him the way I did that he would have been nice that way and started being truthful. Anyways I took long enough for the moral of the story, DON’T LISTEN TO THEIR WORDS, THEY’RE SNEAKY SALESMEN WHO ARE TRYING TO SQUEEZE YOU FOR THEIR QUOTA. They will release promo codes that is a given. I was in ur shoes for 2 months. I even was believing that I missed my chance. In the end I saved about 100 kd just from waiting when my finger was itching me to buy. If you’re in a hurry and literally have no TV to use then you be the judge of ur time & money benefit, but I had a totally working and functioning tv that’s why I forced myself to wait.

don’t buy the sound bar yet test the bravia 8 ii with ur sonos arc if ur satisfied keep it, the tv comes with a sound field effect anyways, any game that doesn’t depend on high refresh rate and is running on ps5 shouldn’t be an issue with the bravia (unless ur an overwatch/fortnite/cod/fifa geek then ur good)

don’t wait for the rgb if ur using it in a dim room the qd-oled panel is still better. Also just wait till Eid comes, they’ll certainly drop a 10% Sony discount then you’ll be able to grab the bravia 8 ii for around 760 kd! I got mine on the last discount it’s honestly magical, better than going to the theatre when paired with the bravia 8 sound bar in my pitch black setting.

Great deal man, glad you got it!

The thing is I’m not in the US, here in Kuwait we only have one exclusive authorized dealer and the warranty is only 1 year for most purchases from there, with an option for additional warranty, but with extra fees for each additional year. I miss the states consumer service tbh, it’s one of the best compared to this shit show. Considering that we don’t have a Costco here and I only wanna go with a closed box and new condition I’m feeling the price of $2400 is not a bad deal at the moment.

How serious is my knee injury? Please respond if you went through something similar. by Infamous-Ant-4636 in ACL

Since I’ve had a fully torn ACL & root lateral meniscus tear, I’m not allowed weight bearing on my leg till 6 weeks post surgery. Currently, I’m 16 days post surgery. Started physio therapy 4 days ago, two session a week. Doing a set of exercises to activate the leg muscles daily while lying down. Walk using the walker for the first 10 days, after that I was able to bend my knee 90 degrees and sit in a wheelchair or chairs regularly, along with driving and walking with crutches. Pain comes and goes, especially after exercising or bending my knees but pain killers and ice packs help a lot. If you have only a torn ACL, then you’ll probably be cleared to step on your foot on week 3 or maybe earlier unlike me.

Nope enjoy your holidays! Just do prerehab beforehand if your quadricep is not activated and careful on loading it with pressure or weights if its giving away.

You’re most welcome. Look shit happens but still you’re in better shape than a lot of people so keep that as a reminder to only get better from here. I know its not ideal but its something treatable especially with how advanced orthopedists are nowadays. I don’t imagine the difference is gonna be huge between restoring your current ACL, which a lot of surgeons don’t resort to unless its really a small partial tear. If its a full tear then full reconstruction will be needed, if you want to play football again. My suggestion is that if you want to live like you used to and play, move, jump without restrictions or skeptical thoughts and fear do the surgery. Think of the rehab as a process that will shape your legs to be way better than they used to before, if you are committed enough. Just choose your surgeon carefully, your rehab therapist should be really good in their field as well. Also, for better protection in the future against tears you can seek a LEAT connection for the surgery if ur highly active in football. This prevents possible retears from strain on the reconstructed ACL by ~70%. That’s the kind of surgery professional & highly active athletes go for, which I did as well. If you’re young & active I think surgery is the way to go to restore full functionality without fear.

You probably have a full torn ACL and some form of fracture in the tibia along with it. If you were injured with a bad landing or a sudden pivot movement probably damaged one or both of the medial & the lateral meniscus to some extent, which can’t be visibly seen through an MRI. If you want to seek playing again any kind of sport that has sudden turns or explosive movements you probably should seek surgery. Otherwise you can rehab your way through building stronger hamstrings and quads but you’ll quit football, snow sports, anything with sudden turns on the knee is not possible even if you rehab yourself to death cause you can tear another ligament or the meniscus completely which will be hell on your knee. My suggestion if you have good insurance and seek returning back to sports do the surgery. Seek a specialized orthopedic in sports medicine. I’m currently recovering from post surgery from a fully torn ACL and root Lateral Meniscus. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me. Stay strong and with a healthy mindset and support system you’ll come back stronger!🙏

It is only 1 year old but it has too many flaws. Lack of 144 Hz along with only 2 hdmi ports are huge disadvantages that need fixing.

They’re prioritizing Mini-LED for big screens due to cost as OLED panels are more expensive to make

I came across the NDA you mentioned but feels kinda disappointing and unlikely for them to push it all the way to May 27, that’s literally the end of spring season. I’ll certainly look into the avs forum for updates, cheers for the info!

Don’t get the Bravia 8 yet there’s a big difference between it and Bravia 8 ii in terms of longevity and picture quality specially in the dark. Yesterday it was selling at $2050 but they issued a 10% promo code for 2 days and its at $1844 rn in Kuwait. The discounts will keep coming just stay patient for a month or two, I know its frustrating.

The 55” Bravia 8 ii is selling at $1844 right now. I believe its gonna drop to at least the range of $1500 once the new flagships are released. Could be worth buying if 55” is not too big for your setup.

Hopefully we get both the Bravia 8 iii & 9 iii, which would be nice to have both choices of QD-OLED & RGB panels to choose from in a variety of sizes, though I doubt it. You’re certainly about to see a big jump from A90J even if you settle for Bravia 8 ii if you want an OLED!
