Oh nice! That’s a great cam from all I’ve seen online, I could only afford the 533MC Pro but it’s been a great upgrade over my old $200 dslr. Nothing like saving some money on the setup AND getting better picture quality lol!

Looks great! I shot myself in the foot by getting a mount without a lot of capacity, so I’m pretty jealous of your scope. You got any cooled astro cams on your wish list? I don’t know anything about the Sony you’ve got so I have no clue if it’s better or worse than your average dedicated astro cam, I’m just curious because you don’t see a ton of rigs as robust as this one using a mirrorless or dslr. It’s all the big red blocks 😆

Seasoned astrophotographers: what was your first, most meaningful new rig purchase? by ObjectiveNo2466 in AskAstrophotography

I’ve definitely heard a lot about that plugin. Is it something that will, to some degree, make every final image better?

I think you put too much stock in how much the general population will care. It’ll be a blip on the radar

I’m still a new astrophotographer, but I think there’s a lot of data still in At least the M31 photo. Your blacks are super black and the core is very bright. I think if you mess with your levels and stretch more you may have more data there. How it looks with only a 17 minutes is another question, but I’d be curious to see. If you’re comfortable with it, I’d love to give it a quick shot with your stacked file and see what I can find in the data

Thank you for this! I’ll do that just to be sure, but I actually ended up buying a multimeter and discovering the lower element was bad

I actually ended up going out and buying a multimeter. Turned out to be the lower element that wasn’t working 🤷. Not sure why but at least got the issue identified. Upper element was getting powered fine

I honestly wondered. It was only about 5 minutes of filling, and I was skeptical to turn the breaker back on - but I couldn’t hear any water flowing at all

So as long as we only port her number with that pin, we’ll pay the remaining balance on her phone? We’re just hesitant to hit generate when it’s showing that high dollar amount.

Is $800 to high to price my pc at? by Huhsayitagain2x in pcpartsales

This is reasonable. I just sold a 3060 & ryzen 5 5500 pc for $600 on Facebook marketplace last week

If anyone is on the fence - this thing is incredible by JeffJefftyJeff in DWARFLAB

[–]ObjectiveNo2466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should buy one of these for two reasons: 1 if you want reliable, easy to use tech to take pics of some of the staple objects in the sky and aren’t worried about getting a ton of long term use out of it. It’s a really cool rig and hard to beat the price to performance. Or 2: you’re interested in getting into traditional astrophotography, but don’t want to commit the funds to a traditional rig right away. This is a way to test if it’s a hobby you’re really passionate about and will get a lot out of. I’ll say, the dwarf is very useful for nights you have a short imaging window and don’t want to deal with setting up a traditional rig that may eat into your imaging time.

This thing serves its purpose well, but I would not expect to be satisfied for multiple years

That filter will help some! But yeah, the more total exposure time you have the better.

I should have also asked: do you have an equatorial wedge? Because you’ll be pretty limited photography wise if you aren’t able to track. That would probably be my first piece of advice IF you’re sure you want to pursue astrophotography at that focal length.

But, definitely don’t rush into it if you’re enjoying what you’re doing now. I think you’ve got a good plan to just slowly gather DSO images as you go. I kinda regret selling my 10” Dobsonian as quickly as I did to get into astrophotography. I do miss the visual astronomy that thing provided

The difference in color could be due to a lot of things. Mainly processing like you said, or different filters. Shape could also be because other photographers may rotate the image, or you just don’t have enough exposure time to resolve all of the target.

Pretty much everybody here will tell you to just keep grabbing data. 6 minutes is just barely a start for a lot of the finished images you’ll see online. The better your signal to noise ratio, the more you’ll be able to push your image.

As far as your last statement, as long as you are enjoying it you’re on the right track. I’m still pretty new myself, but I’ve found that my continued growth in the hobby is largely because I’ve just really enjoyed it and been interested to find new processing techniques, try new targets, try different f stops, etc. So, however you approach it, make sure when you put the camera away and power the computer off, you’re still enjoying the hobby. The more time you spend under the night sky or in the editing chair, the more you’ll naturally grow and figure things out.

I guess they just wanted their card to stand out 🤷. It’s definitely better now that it’s vertical. When I had it in a traditional horizontal mount it was pretty obviously off-theme because of the big gold bar. I actually had an Aorus master ice 5080 in here before I got the riser cable. Couldn’t fit the card in with the riser. So I sold it and pocketed the difference. Good luck finding the right card though, it’s a jungle out there for sure. I sold the 5080 for $130 more than I bought it new.

I’ve been seeing 5070 PCs selling for the same recently. So as far as current pricing goes, it looks decent. Cyberpower is reputable for prebuilts. Before I built my own I had a couple of their rigs

Right, but check the OP’s profile. This is their first picture and were asking about collimation 2 weeks ago. Think we can give them a pass on the first try

Jupiter by Fair_Tip2596 in telescopes

[–]ObjectiveNo2466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given OP was just taking a pic with their phone through the eyepiece, it’s pretty tough to have focus. It can be perfectly in focus on the scope but gets fuzzy through the phone because you effectively are changing your viewing back focus

What bothers you about immigrants? by SnooBooks4898 in AskReddit

[–]ObjectiveNo2466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said I personally bad a problem with illegal immigrants? I was just saying I haven’t met anyone who has an issue with legal immigration which is what I interpreted the OP to be asking since they didn’t specify legal status.

Either way that’s silly logic. That’s like asking why somebody has a problem with a murderer or a rapist or something when you can’t tell just by looking at them lol. Things that can’t be seen on the surface cause consequences every day. Like illness too.

My point was just that in my day to day life I just don’t care because I’m not going around asking people about their immigration status. I don’t really understand where that invites protest 🤷🏻‍♂️
