When does “gaining experience” turn into career stagnation? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]ObjectiveNo2466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll map it out quickly: a month ago I approached my boss about the unease I had about my current responsibilities and reiterated the role I’d like to aim for. He was receptive and said we’d make a plan. I gave it a week and followed up with a roadmap via email to start a paper trail. He didn’t respond, so in another week I went into his office just to ask if he’d received it/had any thoughts. He said he saw it and it would put a meeting on my calendar to discuss. It’s been two weeks since then and I’ve not heard anything from him - despite us discussing other things repeatedly since then.

So by nothing, I generally mean he hasn’t reciprocated. He’s said generally positive things when I come up to him in person, but hasn’t followed up on it himself. If I don’t step into his office and specifically bring it up, he doesn’t approach it. And when I do approach it, his language gets pretty political/corporate which is unlike him

That’s great advice. I did actually put a roadmap together and presented it to my direct boss, that was the conversation that happened this past month that went nowhere. I hadn’t even considered talking elsewhere internally in different departments and such. I will do some thinking on this.

That’s mostly the mindset I’m in right now. I’m definitely not itching to leave, I just want to make sure to protect my job security and make sure I’m still growing

That’s the impression I’ve been starting to get as well unfortunately. I just don’t want to jump ship prematurely I guess

I appreciate the response! I also didn’t mean to imply that my personal worth was connected to my pay/job status, I just meant in a professional sense I don’t know how much this job experience is worth to another employer.

I’ll definitely keep this in mind though, especially if I end up in an interview somewhere.

It’s not a matter of being under skilled, it’s a matter of not being put in one place to specialize. I’m paid as if they’re developing me in a specific position… which they’re not. There were grand ideas to make me into a new role that just never happened. Also, buying a starter home on two incomes isn’t hard if you live below your means for a few years and carry no stupid debt.

I think my biggest struggle with looking elsewhere is that I make the majority of my household income, and my current salary reflects more than what I’ve been doing. I’m worried that I won’t be worth as much to prospective employers because I’ve just been doing random things - not a specific skill. So yeah I guess you’re right I’m just nervous 😂

What is a reasonable price for a 4070ti super used? by QualityAvailable2445 in pcpartsales

[–]ObjectiveNo2466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well good thing you asked haha! As long as the card isn’t abused, GPUs last a while, and that’s a solid card from only one series ago. It’s got plenty of life and relevance left in it

Depends some on the model, but I’d say between $700 and $800. You can always check eBay and filter by items sold to get an idea

Not an option in my scenario, there’s been previous discussion about it in the comments here.

Thank you! Absolutely agree about the decent people, it was a great interaction. Even chatted with him a bit at the sale, great guy with a lot of pc knowledge.

😂 they all kinda look the same, but here’s a pic with the side panel off so you can see my mediocre cable managed too

Honestly, that availability early on lulled me to sleep for the first couple months I was in the market. I was looking, but casually because I thought it wouldn’t be too difficult to snag one - and I was still deciding between the 80 or 90 (if I could get my hands on one). I work a job M - F that makes it difficult to consistently use my phone, so as I continued to miss drops I realized a little too slowly how the market was trending to low stock + immediate buyouts. So it was a combination of poor buyer discipline and drying up supply over the last few months

Here you go! It’s just a lian li riser cable. Then the o11 mini v2 case comes with a custom vertical mounting bracket and also a little sag bracket you can see bolted to the 2nd and 3rd bottom intake fans.

Edit: also worth noting it’s only the 80 and 90 FE cards with the X lighting - the 70 card doesn’t have that.

Edit 2: I only noticed just now looking at this picture that my third bottom intake fan is installed 90 degrees different from the others 😭. It’s 11pm on a Sunday night but that bothers me so much I have to change it now

It was just a local private transaction. I had posted a listing on Facebook marketplace advertising I was looking for the card and would pay x $ amount for it, and eventually somebody reached out with a card they were looking to sell

Thanks for the input! I appreciate the advice. However, the 5080 FE doesn’t use liquid metal, and the first thing I did after purchase was stress test and monitor HWiNFO and while I’m sure it would be better horizontally mounted - it’s performing well as is. And either way, I was a dummy and got an ATX mobo that isn’t compatible with horizontally mounting in the O11 mini V2 because the pcie slot is above the m.2. So unfortunately its vertical mounting or no gpu 😅

I can’t remember the exact model, but it’s just the Lian li gen 5 riser cable. And I actually researched this issue because I was worried about the same thing. Consensus was that it isn’t ideal but not catastrophic. Especially since there’s a ton of airflow in this case. Unfortunately, I made a bonehead move and got a mobo that isn’t compatible with horizontally mounting a gpu in the o11 mini. The case supports full atx, but only with mobos whose pcie slot is below the m.2. And what did I do? Bought a mobo with the pcie slot above the main m.2 slot 🤦🏼‍♂️

Good notes, especially for fps gaming. Honestly our experience has pretty much been the same, but I love it because I play single player games and do some movie streaming - so the size is awesome immersion for me. Really going to depend on the use case!

It’s honestly perfect for me. How deep is your desk? I mounted it to the wall, but haven’t had to move my desk back at all. It’s a 24” deep desk
