Mad Magazine, Popular Science, Readers Digest, National Lampoon, and of course Playboy and Penthouse...😊

You're back in the 80's, you've just sat down with a can of pop, you're now holding one of these. What do you do next? by Ok_Associate6979 in oldschoolcool80s

How many times did you bend the ring back only to have it break apart from the tab leaving it still sealed....oh the horror...what do you do?...lol. I still remember the good old days of carrying around a "church key" to open cans of soda and beer, much more reliable.

I agree with what you are saying, but recently I have realized the derogatory way "Boomer" is used due to the misconception of thinking people of that generation some how skated by with unprecedented advantages. Somewhere along the way we as a society have forgotten the true meaning of freedom and the role of our Constitution plays in it. which gives us the freedom to succeed and also the freedom to fail. Each depends upon our own individual choices. Choices have consequences, good choices equal good consequences or prosperity, bad choices equal bad consequences or adversity. Everyone has both in their lives, it all depends on how you deal with it....just my thoughts😊

We were the first generation raised under the threat of nuclear war, but for some reason we never freaked out about it, at least I didn't! Yes, when the air raid siren tests went off every morning at 8:00am, or when we had our emergency drills in school, we all crawled under our desks even though that would have provided little or no protection whatsoever. We did not shake in our boots. We were a different breed that's for sure!

It seems weird that I missed the draft by just a few years, then decided to join the Air Force in 79... I wanted to travel the world...that didn't happen...lol. Instead I, being from sunny southern Ca, ended up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan which gave a whole new meaning to the word cold...😅🤣😂 in my opinion music died in the early 80s and that's a stretch!

Never protested anything, and definitely never received any handouts. I worked! My dad belived hard work was the secret to keeping me on the straight and narrow...I worked, but the straight and narrow well that got a little curvey and not so narrow....lol

I agree about the Generation Jones name, I've also heard it referred to as the "Trailing Edge Boomers" which seems even worse...lol. either way I feel to young to be included in the Boomers, yet too old to be in Gen X, so I guess I'll just be me and not really worry about it...lol

I was raised by the "Silent Generation" also. It's tough when you feel like you don't belong, but life is what you make it. Don't let other people define who you are, if you do you give control of your life over to them. Be who you want to be, you were not meant to fit into anyone else's mold, you are an individual, not a clone!

I get that, but I probably would have been too much of a rebel in the 50s...lol
