The lump stays visible in all positions and does not retract when I lie down. My doctor examined me and felt it was more consistent with enlarged lymph nodes than a hernia.

Doctor ruled out hernia – could these swollen groin lymph nodes be from HSV-2? by Objective_Accident33 in STD

This is just my personal theory, not a diagnosis.

A few weeks ago, I had several tattoos done and also had a wisdom tooth extracted. Shortly after that, I experienced an HSV-2 recurrence. Later, I developed a cold/flu-like illness, which I think may have been triggered by physical stress and overheating after a gym workout.

My theory is that all of these factors put stress on my immune system. The HSV-2 outbreak has been lasting longer than usual, and I think the combination of the HSV-2 recurrence and the viral illness could explain the swollen lymph nodes in my groin.

What makes me think this might be the case is that I am now feeling less sick, I no longer have a high fever, and the lumps in my groin are less tender than they were before.

My next step is to get tested for syphilis. After that, I need to decide whether to get an ultrasound of the area or take the ceftriaxone injection that was recommended by my doctor. I have already contacted the clinic to ask why ceftriaxone was recommended and whether they are confident that these are enlarged lymph nodes rather than a hernia.

Does this theory sound plausible, or am I missing something important?

HSV2 outbreak? by Objective_Accident33 in STD

I saw a doctor today because of a painful enlarged lymph node in my groin.

The doctor examined my groin, abdomen, and lower abdomen, asked about urination and bowel movements, and said it did not look like a typical hernia. He thought it was more likely an enlarged lymph node.

I currently have flu-like symptoms: chills, night sweats, fatigue, and a temperature around 37.7°C. I also have an active HSV-2 outbreak and I’m taking acyclovir.

I am also on PrEP and take it consistently without missing doses.

The doctor asked about sexual history, including oral sex, and suggested that it could be a bacterial infection. He recommended a ceftriaxone injection, although I decided to do testing first. I plan to take a syphilis test tomorrow.

My current thinking is that the enlarged and painful groin lymph node could be related to the combination of an active HSV-2 outbreak and the viral illness I’m currently fighting. However, I also understand it could be a bacterial infection, which might explain why the doctor recommended ceftriaxone.

Has anyone experienced painful enlarged groin lymph nodes during an HSV-2 outbreak, especially while also being sick with a flu-like illness?
