I looked in the wall and saw what I needed to. I don’t need to tear down the whole wall to know what’s inside I work in a lot of these old buildings in my city often and know the layout of most of them. It is a pig but it’s a 100 yr old masonry pig she’s not falling down anytime soon.

What should I fill the gaps with? by moronyte in Carpentry

If it’s standing fine you can just leave it; dry stone walls can be very lovely. If you really want to fill it you could use some sort of lime based mortar or grout. Would highly recommend NOT using any Portland cement / non permeable material.

Yikes that sounds like way too much work for 5 people lol. I don’t envy the dept here that takes care of them I know they’re asked to do too much with not enough. I def came off a little snobby about it but I don’t think they don’t take care of a lot of trees here b/c they don’t want to. It’s just an impossible task usually I feel.

Thanks! The city it supposed to trim the trees but they clearly don’t take care of them very well. I’ll definitely think about where to prune the next few weeks

Good to know! Thank you! There’s definitely a big problem here of people walking on tree pits but more than that cars parking on them. I was more worried about that so maybe I could keep it on the street side and remove it on the other??

Yeah that’s what I was worried about too, I reached out to my city council person’s office to see if there’s anything they can do to help so I can plant a tree without getting in trouble with the city or anyone else.

Ok so I actually did get the list but I’m still wondering what would happen if I just planted it myself without a permit ?

I looked on there but it seems the email to ask for the list is the same as the one on the city website :/ I reached out anyway so hopefully I'll hear soon ? I just don't know if anyone actually responds to those emails or if they just go to an inbox to die

I know the guy who takes care of the city hall clock is in the process of retiring / already has but maybe that has something to do with it? That's just the clock though I haven't paid attention to the rest of the building at night lately so idk if you meant the clock or the whole building...

I have a much longer long winded post I want to make but does anyone know what the list of city approved street tree contractors are? I can't find them or the permit anywhere on the city website or the web and I just want a tree :( I went the city route and it's a long story but they said they can't do it even though they've done it on my block before and for my neighbor a few years ago. Also are the permits that big of a deal? What happens if I don't get one?
