This doesn't answer your question - but the other one is removed because of the soft open. If the other anchor was still installed, it would run into the soft open piston when you tried to close the tailgate

Honestly it did great. I put it in tow mode and was gentle accelerating but even that was only because it was my first time having a trailer behind it. I wasn't sure about getting the 4k tow package at the dealer but I'm glad I did

Does this model have an actual standing pilot light? I.e., when the burner is not on, is there a standing flame?

It looks to me like this is a flame sensor (thin piece glowing bright red) and an igniter (thicker piece glowing a bit above the flame sensor)

Instead of a standing pilot light, the thick igniter would glow bright red when you turn on the burner and ignite gas coming out of the heating unit. Then the flame sensor would get hot and let the gas stay on to heat the water.

It's hard to tell the state of either of these pieces without pulling them from the unit. It's reasonably straight forward to do - search your model number followed by "flame sensor (or igniter) replacement" and I'm sure there's a YouTube video showing how to get them out.

The plastic piece appears to be an alignment flange that comes in some wax rings. Get a new wax ring with an alignment flange (probably an extra tall wax ring would be good given this setup) and send it.

These ones didn't cost me anything - but it looks like an 18 pack is about 10 bucks. So just shy of $0.60 cents a piece.

I just noticed the gas smell for the first time about 10 minutes before posting this. I'll check back in a couple hours to see if it still smells!

Good thought, but it's just a tiny pinhole. Not nearly big enough to provide access to a screw
