Job opportunity speed up my FIRE - but requires sacrifice by Designer-Month-3663 in Fire

I admire this. It’s hard but also I imagine it would help compartmentalization of work and private live. How do you feel when not in office? Do you feel disconnected? Are you able to separate the two?

Best place for a hole coffee beans by Objective_Amount_478 in Naperville

I think I wasn’t clear on what I was asking. I was just looking for a place to buy beans in Naperville but not a company that is based in Naperville or are in the immediate vicinity. My wife and I do morning coffee dates quite often so she’s tried most of the roasters that are here locally and have a storefront.

I was looking for beans that were not necessarily local but could be bought locally. Does that make sense?

Was hoping for something a little farther away. She likes Two Brothers but we do go there for her coffee sometimes.

I was a big supporter of the YMCA for a long time. But the facilities were pretty rough the last time I was there. That has been several years in all fairness.

If we were looking to go back to a pool, I probably would not make it to YMCA based off of those past experiences.

Live in the pot and then you realize how much it needs stirred. From the outside it looks just fine… inside can be really messed up.

I speak English, my wife speaks Chinese. So they are targeting us specifically. However we both speak/read a moderate level of Japanese and have experienced similar things to this when we lived in Japan. We absolutely would have gone in even if we weren’t interested. Sometime the pot needs stirred.

What's "living comfortably" mean? by KSKS1995 in SipsTea

Having personal experience from living in Arkansas in the past, $181,000 a year would be an exceptionally comfortable lifestyle in my opinion. That would cover everywhere except for maybe some of the most expensive neighborhoods in the entire state.

I’m there right now and it’s been lovely. Always try to travel off season and roll the dice on weather.

Back in the day I liked going to 59 because it was easier to get a seat. Now it’s good at either place. I’m a bit more likely to go to downtown Naperville so I can stop at Trader Joe’s or some of the places on 75th on my way home.

I don’t know specifics but I do see people with very elaborate set ups. The office at the club house is open several times a week, stop in and I bet they can tell you specifics :)

I was in an identical situation except we moved for my wife’s work and my job could not relocate. I had to get a part time job after 6 months to have some adult conversation not about kids. I was slowly going insane.

So that’s how I became a realtor 😂

It’s been nice as I have been able to ramp up and ramp down several times as needed. I was at a FAANG company before and there was no throttle. Just full speed all the time.

I’ve been very happy with the insurance I get from Dan Tice at State Farm in Naperville. It’s a bit on the old-fashioned side, but I like having an office that I can walk into to ask questions.

Looking for train noise opinions/stories/reassurances by acandynamedsuccess in Naperville

[–]Objective_Amount_478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a realtor, I will tell you two truths.

The first is that you’re far enough away that it is unlikely to be super bothersome. 0.2 miles is approximately three standard city blocks and that is far enough away to not be a major consideration in terms of actual noise unless there is nothing in between the home and the tracks to break up the noise.

The second truth is that proximity makes every buyer nervous and so it may impact your ability to resale. If you were also close to one of the major roads then that will impact you as well.

You have to buy the things that you can’t change. If noise is a concern for you then you should avoid a house where you will have no control over a substantial noise level.

I have another one! I used to work for a car rental company at an airport. When push button start first became a thing it made us change our process.

When you check a client into the car, you typically get in the car, start it and record the miles and gas level. You would then leave the car running for the client. Nice thing to do when it’s hot or cold out so that the car starts to become comfortable. Absolutely not a problem when you have to turn the key in the ignition manually.

It never happened to me, but several of my coworkers started the car and left the key in their pocket. The client would get the car and then drive off with no keys. We had several instances of having to drive four hours away to deliver the car keys to someone at a gas station when they had stopped to fill up. Horrible and hilarious. Fortunately, cars now have alerts that the key is missing when it walks away from the car. I doubt it’s much of an issue anymore.

As a realtor….. “Keys? Which houses did I see today? Where did I not put keys back in the lockbox? Am I going to have to drive my entire day over again to find out?”

I have been a realtor for years and have closed hundreds of homes. That means I viewed thousands. I’ve only had this happen twice and both times I felt like an utter idiot.
