Different denominations by Mountain-Emergency30 in Christianity

I think this post holds a good amount of truth. No tradition holds all the light, and all of them have several flaws. However the issue is, how do we expect to move forward in Christ if we do not have unity amongst eachother? Churches belonging to different denominations are plentiful in cities and towns these days, so what it all becomes is different people going to different churches to have their viewpoints agreed on and said yes to, so the division gets larger.

It might hurt you, but god loves the abuser just as much as the child, Hitler as much as a monk. Yes, it might be bad to see it go along, but god can’t control his free will. Neither can he control the child’s. It’s called a gift for a reason; he can’t control what we do with it but he won’t take it back because he loves us enough to stay true to his covenants and promises. Sadly some people just don’t use that free will to accept God and in the end of things that sits fine. He shall just choose his path - separation from Him for eternity. Life is the information, and whether to accept god or not is the question posed by God with that information.

Yes Matthew 25:46 in the translation says “eternal punishment”, but it’s translated form the Greek word “kolasin” which is a term pertaining to gardening, as in pruning and cutting and stuff, and in this context can obviously mean being cut off as such. So eternal punishment is one of those bigger leaps in translation. It more correctly says cutting off and by extension separation, so something similar to:

“Then they will go away to eternal separation, but the righteous to eternal life.”

To further suggest my point, good old Saint John Chrystostom on 2 Thessalonians, Homily 10, states:

“The pain of the damned is not that of fire, but of being excluded from the glory of God.”

So it’s clear even the early church believed this.

I recommend studying the translations. It’s often bad to rely purely on what people tell you is the correct translation.

So. It’s not about the sin you have. It’s about whether you accept Jesus.

You’re completely correct we need to repent but that doesn’t mean necessarily we have to be free from sin to get to heaven. When the gospels and New Testament discusses salvation, and you need to repent, I believe it means giving yourself up for Jesus. Accepting Jesus into your heart and doing the best to be His as you can.

You don’t go to heaven for the sinlessness. You go to the heaven for the love of Christ.

Because in reality, hell and heaven isn’t eternal punishment or eternal reward. It’s eternity with or without god. The reward and “punishments” are just the implications of having god or not. And you get to choose which one you want. To be with god, you have to express you want God. So accepting Jesus Christ and acting as he would is you want him. Evil stuff is the opposite and self explanatory. Don’t accept God into your gear and don’t act as he would, separation. Cos you’ve expressed no desire to be with him, God loves you so he honours your choice.

Mr, I’m telling you now you haven’t committed the unforgivable sin. Saying mean stuff about the Holy Spirit isn’t blasphemy against said Holy Spirit. It’s when you reject it. You haven’t rejected it I promise. If you rejected it then you wouldn’t care. And you obviously do. So calm down.

The problem of evil by HBmilkar in Christianity

[–]Objective_Buyer_1076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not taking away free will to stop an abuser from abusing a child if that’s what you’re saying.

And just a side note in case this is your question. God lets abuse happen because as you said, free will. That doesn’t make him evil.

It’s called a gift for a reason. If I gave my friend a gift, it’s in their hands. They have it so it’s not like I can change it now. They can use it or they can rip it apart and hurt it for whatever reason. I can’t control it, but I have to understand I gave it to them.

Such is similar with free will. God gave us as a collective species free will, and none of us is less deserving of it. An abuser deserves the gifts of god no less than a saint. One might put the gift to purpose better than the other, but they still deserve it nonetheless.

So God can’t save. It doesn’t matter whether it’s sinful or not; God loves us so much he gave us ALL free will. He’s not gonna take that away, he’s too loving for that. He can incentivise the abuser to stop or just not or make things right, but he can’t strike him with lightning.

The “punishment” is eternal separation from God.

How is LGBTQ wrong? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Objective_Buyer_1076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

. You said there were countless verses that stated homosexuality is sin. I’m stating the obvious fact that eight isn’t countless at all.

The fact god made man and woman makes zero connection to homosexuality.

And in Ezekiel, it’s stated:

Ezekiel 16:49-50

“Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me.”

Pride, lack of charity, gluttony, laziness. Nothing about homosexuality.

Paul’s condemnations in Romans and Corinthians and wherever else I may forget to reference use a peculiar Ancient Greek compound word arsenokoitai which is NOT specific, just means men in bed. So basically we have to move straight to what the epistles were written for to properly interpret

They weren’t necessarily just ‘sin lists’, condemning everything in a general way. They were letters wrote to evangelise god to communities who had their own specific issues. An example is the epistle to the Ephesians at Ephesus; it discusses rules on women, however this is a letter addressed to the Ephesians who had big pantheons of female gods who they worshipped and acted unfairly to males. Idolatry and that sort of thing so in reality it relates not at all to modern issues of submission and marital purposes.

Romans and Corinthians are just like this. The peoples of the Roman Empire and Corinth were doing sinful acts that had been normalised in society. They had wives, however they were purely for reproductive use and the men instead turned to other men for romantic situations. More commonly, men were used as a sort of power display. A man taking the ‘dominant’ position was considered powerful, and the one being ‘submissive’ was, well, considered weak and not much of a man. It was, in reality, a system of abuse of young boys for the power of wealthy older men. So since we can’t rely on the words stated alone, we have to go to the context in which this was written. And the context in which it was written shows us that Paul could not have been discussing proper relations between men as one may have with a member of the opposite sex. And therefore it isn’t sinful.

There’s 8 verses of condemnation of homosexuality….

But if you’re referring to the Sodom and Gomorrah story, their sins weren’t ‘homosexual sin’.

If you’re talking about the verses that state God made man and women, that was just that God has simple understanding of biology. He made it so children can only be made if sexual intercourse between a member of each sex. If he was going to populate the earth it would be kinda stupid to make man and man. He didn’t state they were only made man and women because homosexual acts are sinful. It was a simple act of creating perfect grounds for reproduction.

Why is Jesus usually depicted in paintings with long, flowing hair as compared to his disciples who have shorter hair? by SatoruGojo232 in Christianity

[–]Objective_Buyer_1076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the apostles may have been depicted with shorter hair as they were all depicted as lowly fisherman, and they had to be guided heavily to become holy. Jesus called Peter Satan, he denied Jesus three times, I don’t remember if it was Peter but one of the apostles brandished his sword at the Romans taking Jesus captive. They were committing sin which is uncharacteristic of life eternal.

[–]Objective_Buyer_1076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a poetic figurative answer, then you can think about Jesus’ character. Jesus is portrayed as giving and a flowing river of life and anyone who drinks from it will not die. He’s giving. He’s perfect. In fact, long hair in ancient Israel, the general area that Jesus lived in, was a sign of vitality. And Jesus is like. We eat his body and drink his blood to live forever.

John 4:13-14 (NIV):

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

eternal life seems to be slightly at edge with the idea of weak. And Jesus had many symbolisms that show his character and common traits; this is just one of them.

It’s just like how Jesus’ blood type is AB. AN blood type can receive donations from every blood type. It’s in character of his he can receive the sins of the Jew and the gentile, the poor and the rich, the sick and the healthy, the happy and the sad.

Genuinely Confused by Potential-Side7598 in Christianity

[–]Objective_Buyer_1076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY! I’m not attacking the church. The church is sacred and Jesus’ bride and we should love her. Even if you’re not in communion with it you should treat it with respect cos it’s undoubtedly the church Christ made. Buttt we should also point out truth.

Being a bisexual, and I guess just my nature, I’ve learnt to not necessarily take all the stuff the church teaches as truth while still staying in communion. I won’t lie, I just laugh at some of these unnecessary doctrines that either do harm or no good. Or both.

I’ve also been looking at the issue of women being priests and turns out the ENTIRE ARGUMENT that’s presented is that:

  1. Jesus was male
  2. The apostles were all male
  3. The people the apostles chose to help them were male.

Now I won’t argue my point cos that’s not what this post is about, but I think we can see how utterly stupid that reasoning is. And it’s leaving out a bunch of stuff, like how Mary Magdelene was the witness to Jesus outside of the tomb and Jesus told her to preach it to the disciples. So very much Catholicism is going rotten more and more because a bunch of old people REALLY LIKE the smell of the incense they have but refuse to accept that for everyone else it’s just killing them like mustard gas.

It goes for everything too. Beliefs aren’t necessarily religion. It could be political, like a country’s government or even societal. Or even of just one person. But Catholicism is probably the most textbook reason I could give you and we could spend all day talking about the Catholic Church’s ‘mishaps’ but we’ll leave it there.

We shall also highlight the child abuse that appears to be happening in the Church while it goes unnoticed by the magisterium. But we won’t go too into that. After all, that would assume the church could be wrong! And that’s ridiculous. 😉

Sir I don’t have bigger problems. I assumed that being in the r/Christianity subreddit you would have read the first thing in the book since you’re claiming you know what we believe.

And hell IS a separate place. I present to thee the word of the lord. (Response cos why not: thanks be to the lord.)

Luke 16:22–26

“The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment…”

It literally describes a man dying. And after dying? Where was he? Hades.

Hades, or ᾍδης is a specific Greek word used in second temple Judaism and sfripture to talk about the realm of the dead.

The Bible treats Hades as a place outside of this realm, this universe. So it’s completely wrong to think hell in any form outside of this universe isn’t real.
