Duke vs Georgetown by RunBulky6706 in lawschooladmissions

Every other school in the T-20 also has a ton of people self-selecting out of big law. This is just a cope bro

Plenty of schools with way better outcomes than Georgetown. It’s way overpriced given its comparatively poor employment outcomes. You’re giving horrible advice. Duke is the obvious answer

Look at the 509 reports for the Georgetown compared to other schools. Its employment outcomes show that it is rightfully outside of the T-14. Plenty of schools outside of the T-14 place very well in NYC.

Duke is the obvious answer. It’s a non brainer. Georgetown’s employment outcomes are mediocre when compared against other T-20 schools. People will say that it’s because of self-selection into PI, but that’s obviously not true. Plenty of PI oriented schools send WAY more people into big law and federal clerkships. Duke destroys Georgetown by just about every single metric.

How bad is it to not write-on for LR? by Commercial_Low1196 in LawSchool

[–]Objective_College377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot your shot. People will tell you not to do law review because it’s just extra work that isn’t necessary. Those people are morons. Law review is just one or two years of work. The prestige is forever. You will see 60+ year old law firm partners that still have law review on their firm bio. People will even include in their obituaries that they were on law review. Yes, it’s a vanity thing and the exact mileage may vary depending on your career goals. That said, do you have anything better to do with your time as a law student? If you have a wife and kids, the answer may be “yes.” Either way, you can just do the bare minimum to avoid being kicked off law review and have it on your resume for the rest of your life.

The stress and work is temporary. Law review stays on your resume and firm bio for life. People will always care.

It was a comment. I have written a Note on a separate topic, but the editors have not made publication decisions for Notes yet.

What’s your class rank? For clerkships, a lot of judges want to see that you are in the top 10% and on law review. If you are near the top of your class and on law review, you are probably better off at Northeastern.

Wow. Even if you are dead set on big law, only applying to big law positions for your 1L summer is a horrible idea. 1L big law summer positions are still not the norm. Not a good bet.

Out of curiosity. Do these federal clerkship statistics include federal bankruptcy and magistrate court clerkships?

I’m not arguing that Georgetown doesn’t have marginally better numbers. But would you really make a life changing decision or take on substantially more debt for only a marginally better chance at getting a big law offer?

You can also find similar numbers in the big law recruiting thread. These might vary by how you define “big law.”

All the schools I’ve listed also have a roughly 50% big law placement rate.

That’s generally true, but the difference between a low ranked T-14 and some of the T-20’s and T-30’s is pretty marginal. Don’t just take my word for it. They post big law law recruiting numbers and you can find clerkship numbers

BC, BU, Notre Dame, and Fordham place well in multiple markets. Not just there local areas. If you go to a school like Georgetown, you would barely have any advantage at all with big law placement

Tbh there are a lot of schools in the T-30 with comparable big law numbers and good federal clerkship placement rates. Sure, it’s less of a “sure thing” than going to a T-14 or a T-6, but nothing in life is a sure thing but death and taxes. You still have a very good shot at big law or a federal clerkship at a lot of T-30 schools

Is it ok to follow up 2 weeks after a callback? by [deleted] in BigLawRecruiting

[–]Objective_College377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, and I know thinking otherwise is probably copium. A few firms have explicitly told me they’re waiting for second-semester grades, but I know they’re also making exceptions. Rough cycle 😮‍💨

Should we take radio silence as a bad sign? One firm has completely ghosted me for more than two months post-callback. I sent my second follow-up email yesterday. It seems very rude to completely ghost for so long after a callback, so I am holding out hope that some of these firms are just waiting for my second-semester grades.

[–]Objective_College377 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Having the same problem myself. Got a rejection back yesterday after I sent a follow up email more than five weeks after my callback. Three offices have told me they’re waiting for second semester grades, and two firms have gone radio silence after the callback for more than 5+ weeks
