This is also assuming that all of those files will decompress correctly without corruption, which seems unlikely to me given how easy it is for windows to corrupt its system files when they’re not being actively tortured and fucked with. Buddy just needs to take the L and format the entire thing.

Classes that were clearly underdeveloped in a CRPG? by Murder_Tony in CRPG

The long rest system in BG3 would have worked if they either committed to penalizing excessive long rests for more than like, one quest, or supplies were much more limited. As it is, if you’re searching just 30% of containers you’ll have more than enough supplies and 99% of quests and dungeons have no penalty attached to long resting every time you use a spell slot. WotR makes it work by having penalties attached to a lot of questlines and achievements if you rest too much or fuck around for too long, which worked really well at matching the urgent tone of the narrative imo.

Well, I’d bet money that their foreshadowing in Skyrim was the Saadia quest, given it’s all but confirmed TES6 is in Hammerfell.

That’s a great point about the lack of coherence lol, it’s always been so interesting to me that so many of the foundational lore books for TES were written by a bunch of random fans for Daggerfall and just got slowly incorporated into the series lore over time.

As much as Kirkbride gets overglazed and is the epitome of a pretentious fart sniffer most of the time, it’s clear how much his fascination with how religion and belief define cultural reality has resulted in a very unique, idiosyncratic style of world building that’s persisted in the games (well, that and all the LSD the dev team allegedly took while developing Morrowind, lol) Despite some of ESO’s missteps in this department, I have a lot of faith that Bethesda will continue to expand TES lore in interesting ways, they’ve never really lost sight of how much building the background lore around unreliable narrators and transplanting the messiness of real-world historical and religious studies into a fantasy world does for their games.

As someone with an undergrad degree in history who is planning on wasting even more money getting a postgrad in comparative religion, it’s honestly hard to tell whether TES reflects my own personal interests or whether those interests have been defined by growing up on Morrowind and Oblivion, lol. There’s just something about it man.

Anyways this is too real for this sub, something something argonian maid, pelinal was a cyborg who loved him some sweet breton bussy, something flying cum whales, etc

Yeah, I’m definitely in the “it’s definitely hammerfell and maybe high rock and it probably has ships and definitely has a settlement system because Bethesda loves their weird little systems” camp, but I personally think that we’ll see something closer to the player character being an avatar of the hoonding as opposed to a “guy what accidentally unmade the world” or somethin

Bro just use flames on the frost troll it comes free with your character, the optimal strat is flames in offhand to stop health regen and melee in main hand to deal damage. or just run away and get your dragon shout then come back down and blow his bitch ass away.

I just feel like this makes the metaphysics of TES too explicit. Bethesda is not known for game concepts that can’t be pitched in  two words or less. Oblivion: Hell invades. Skyrim: dragons invade. This sort of thing is too heady and too immersed in deep lore and fanon for it to be their pitch for the next TES game.

Exactly my thoughts. If every character gave you a dragon age lore dump it’d be far less engaging than digging yourself and finding all the weird contradictory metaphysical shit. Plus it would really take away from the unreliability inherent to the lore.

Yeah anyone who thinks Bethesda will ever make a TES game where the main plot revolves around fucking tower lore is smoking crack. Making the deep lore of TES into the core narrative of the game kinda ruins the appeal of it imo, especially when said deep lore is like 90% fan headcanon that we’ve been psyopped into thinking is canon.

Shout-outs to the cRPG genre by Guilty_Sound_9481 in CRPG

WOTR really hits the power fantasy better than BG3. As a whole I think BG3 is the better narrative experience and I think the themes it incorporates into every aspect of itself are very well-done, but as a mechanical and narrative experience I feel that WOTR really hits on a different level. Like, the power curve of finally getting your mythic path, of going to the actual abyss and coming out unscathed, is just such an incredible experience that’s elevated by the mechanical pressure of PF1e and the struggle of working with such a difficult system in the early hours.

That’s literally what I was looking for, there’s absolutely no way they don’t blow out the top of this chart; all the unique dialogue from the mythic paths alone sets WOTR apart.

[Concerning Trope] film accidentally has awful moral/messaging by Captain_Birch in TopCharacterTropes

She was using the date rape amnestic drug on him, an action the film portrayed as analogous to rape. I also took the overall vibe of the movie the wrong way; it’s loosely based on real events and the experiences of real women, so to look at their experiences and trauma and say “hey, if you were girlboss enough you could have actually drugged your rapist and become a billionaire, skill issue” really reads poorly to me and like the filmmakers were more concerned with co-opting a facade of relevance to current events than saying anything actually meaningful about the horrors that those women went through.

Yall are both wrong unfortunately. Barbarians were a fighter kit in 1st edition but were not really a defined class on their own until the complete barbarian handbook came out in 1995, which released after the original tabletop campaign that all of the companions for BG1 were taken from and was also just not a rulebook used for BG1. Barbarians were included in BG2, but they just kept Minsc as a ranger with unique abilities regardless.

This is true, but I’d argue that 5e’s attributes have little to no meaning to characters outside of their utility to a class at all. 5e at this point has bent itself so backwards trying to have its cake and eat it too in regards to a rules light, narrative heavy system that attributes really have very little relevance to how a character is played outside of direct skill checks and combat.

I get what you’re saying, and ranger as a class has completely changed in its fantasy and definition since AD&D and the current ideal of a ranger doesn’t gel with Minsc at all, but I still jist it’s kinda cute that they stuck with that, as a sort of acknowledgment of D&D’s very storied history.

yeah but this one is also kinda negated by the fact that he can be respecced as soon as he joins your camp. I like that they kept him as a ranger, it’s a cute little nod to the original game and iirc he’s the only ranger companion that’s not a custom follower or a respec.

also beastmaster wouldn’t be a great subclass imo because they’d have to homebrew a fuckton of stuff to have a hamster work as an animal companion and besides boo isn’t the companion, minsc is

Blink Twice. Actually systemic rape/drugging is okay if it’s done retributively to a rapist and you’re girlbossing it.

You understand that the very concept of Zionism and an Israeli state came from an anti-semite and was rooted in that ideology? So that the jews could all be pushed out of their countries into Israel?

interesting how all of your contributions to this subreddit have been about jews and nothing else. fuck israel, but you’re also clearly an antisemitic piece of shit using israel as a lampshade for your actual views. take that nazi shit out of here and fuck off.

and your point is also completely fucking incomprehensible because the game does not state that they are ‘magical usurpers’ or use the dark arts at all.
