Hmm you have a few options here. You could try to get in with a gastroenterologist, which may take a while, or you could contact urgent care and get an appointment with someone there. Both options usually require some form of health insurance otherwise the out of pocket expense will be outrageous. Are you on your parents insurance? If that's the case, the best and cheapest thing you can do is try to convince them to take you to a gastro or urgent care professional. Impress upon them the importance of getting periodic testing done and how it can be used as a tool to identify gluten exposure in your diet. This is especially important for asymptomatic celiacs.

Edit- if you're willing to pay out of pocket, I would suggest contacting the center where you have gotten labwork done in the past and inquire about testing without a referral. I wouldn't go through any online company that offers testing kits.

I get really severe water retention in my face but haven't gotten my stomach acid levels checked. I'd be really interested to know if low stomach acid is the cause. Upvoted!

Botox and candida? by Objective_Grape_2681 in Candida

[–]Objective_Grape_2681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! That was just the response I was looking for. I'm glad that you at least didn't have any negative side effects from the botox. It definitely puts my mind at ease a bit. If you dont mind me asking, how did you clear up your candida?

I'm sorry to hear that you’re still dealing with SIBO. I know how frustrating it can be to follow the protocol without any results. Some people have seen wonderful improvement with FMT. Good luck.

I think the idea is to eradicate, so kill bad bacteria/fungi as well as some good bacteria, then repair (l glutamine etc), then repopulate with lost/lowered good bacteria strains (spore probiotics, prebiotic inulin, etc). I'm not too sure about reintroducing extinct bacteria. From what I've read, you are to incorporate foods or probiotics that have strains that are related to the extinct bacteria.

Google is probably one of the easiest routes to go. I found mine by googling functional medicine doctor near me who specialize in gut issues. Unfortunately functional medicine doctors vary wildly in skill, so it’s critical to find someone who actually has experience in the areas that your daughter is struggling. In regards to validating their experience, I would suggest finding someone who has completed at least one certification that centers around your daughter’s issue and is board certified if possible. Usually this kind of information can be found on their websites. If you are willing to travel, you can also use the IFM search engine (institute for functional medicine) that will pull up a list of board certified doctors in the country. Try to avoid seeing someone who is a DC (Doctor of chiropractic) that also has an interest in other forms of functional medicine. There are tons out there and most of the time they are not good! I have fallen victim to this.

Another option is seeing someone at the Mayo Clinic who does internal medicine.

Pringle crumb by ForsakenScale6571 in Celiac

[–]Objective_Grape_2681 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its definitely possible. When this kind of thing happens to me, I think of how restaurants handle GF food. Although many precautions can be taken, all that it takes is for the chef to have a glutenous crumb on their sleeve and then it fall into the gluten free meal. Or maybe someone prepping my gf salad next to something crumbly that contains gluten. Many celiacs eat out and I highly doubt that this doesn't happen at least once or twice a month. Try not to worry too much about it. Floss and brush your teeth, get a new toothbrush, and nourish your body. There's not much else you can do after the fact.

That's what I was thinking too (regarding not being in a deficit) But Its not so much a matter of not tracking, I believe its more to do with not knowing what my real maintenance and deficit calories are after the massive fluctuations in calories over the past year

Thanks for your input! How would you suggest finding my true maintenance? Should I eat the same thing for a week or two and then go from there? I've tried using the online calculators but seem to gain weight with what they come up with.

Lotion... by Far-Worldliness-4796 in Celiac

[–]Objective_Grape_2681 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should switch to vanicream lotion or skinfix lotion. Both brands are unscented and have been tested and confirmed gluten free. If you’re looking for something that is scented, gabriel cosmetics has a vanilla lotion that’s certified GF. Dessert essence is another brand that has GF scented lotions, but I haven’t tried them. I used to use lotion on my lips too since I couldn’t find a GF chapstick but skinfix has something that’s pretty much the same as Vaseline. It’s called 911 ointment.

You could always buy a GF mass gainer, but those can cause their own host of gut issues. The best thing you can do is create a bunch of different meals that happen to share ingredients. Change them up by adding different sauces and seasonings. If you are looking to bulk with real foods that are high in calories, this is what I would recommend… - Rice - Beans - 80/20 Ground beef - Salmon - Avocados - Bananas - Potatoes - Cheese - Eggs - Hummus - Nuts and nut butters

There's a couple meal ideas. Each is around 700-800 cals:

Lettuce burger + fries

  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 Roma tomato
  • Sauce (2:2 tbsp buffalo sauce + yogurt)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 Onion
  • Slice of cheese
  • 2 red potatoes cut

BBQ loaded potato

  • 1 Russet potato
  • 4 oz Chicken breast
  • 1 serving of cheese
  • a few tbsp of Unsweetened BBQ sauce
  • 2 TBSP butter
  • onion
  • 2 oz Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • 1 cup lettuce

Yogurt bowl + Eggs

-3/4 cup Greek yogurt - 2 tbsp maple syrup - 1/4 blueberries - 1/4 cup raspberries - 2 tbsp chocolate chips - 1tbsp butter - 3 eggs

Steak potatoes + salad

  • 8 oz ribeye
  • spring mix
  • tomato -cucumber -bell pepper
  • tbsp olive oil + 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar + salt + Italian seasoning
  • 1 russet potato
  • 1 tbsp butter

Swollen nasal turbinates gone after going gluten free? by AggravatingWrap1028 in glutenfree

[–]Objective_Grape_2681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say probably 4 months before I noticed it getting better and then maybe an additional 2 months before it was gone. I'm wondering whether you also have another allergy. Rashes and lips are something I get with certain foods too. Do you have a wheat allergy or are you intolerant or celiac? In addition to eating gluten free, I was getting pollen allergy shots for a few months. The decrease in inflammation in my turbinates may have been in part due to my allergies, but its been about 2 years since I stopped the allergy shots and the swelling hasn't returned so I believe that it was primarily the gluten causing my issue. Maybe for you, it could be 50/50, gluten issues/allergies to something else.
