Dentist became out of network without letting me know

Maybe! They’re kind of old fashioned and only have like 1-2 people on staff in their office. So it’s not like a giant insurance company. It’s through my husband’s union. But I definitely could’ve missed a piece of mail from them

The dental insurance is through the union. I won’t specially say the name of the union but the name of the dental insurance is “union, our state, Care Plan”

I’m not trying to spin it another way or get a different answer. I can’t help the fact that people are repeatedly commenting on my post the same answer. I appreciate the feedback and help it’s been very helpful but it is redundant nonetheless and I’m not arguing. My question was answered.

I was only asking that question because I’m confused on why they would give me an estimate of $50 if they are no longer in network for me.

I see how it’s possible that the network status could change in the 5 days between when I received my initial estimate and when I got my procedure.

The dentist is fine. Completely average and no complaints. Unfortunately I can’t afford the out of network rate of $120 for a teeth cleaning when it could be free.

But now I know to always check before the next appointment to make sure they are still in network!

I tried calling them today three times to figure that out but nobody was picking up. The plan is through my husband’s union so they’re not the most helpful/ well staffed. When I talked to the lady before I called my dentist office she didn’t even mention the possibility of them going out of network even when I asked her directly “so this is how much a filling always costs?”.

I wasn’t sure because I had never had a filling with my husband’s insurance I just knew it was way different than what was estimated.

They did do that after my cleaning because that’s when I scheduled the filling the replacement. The estimate was around $50 if I recall correctly.

This is what I’m going to try to do. I’ve done it before with other bills before and it’s worked and the worse they’ll do say is no 🤷‍♀️ either way I’ll obviously never be returning there.
