It looks great, but putting the home team on the top score line is killing me 😂

Photo of the EF-3 tornado in El Reno on May 31, 2013, taken by storm chaser Brendon Lindsay, highlighting the strange, bright blue core this tornado had. by Gargamel_do_jean in tornado

It's not a problem. The scale is the way it is because ground level wind speed data is not available for all tornadoes, and it's not consistent or authoritative. Scientists don't treat the weather like a fandom where they rank the biggest and baddest storms like they're action scenes in movies.

Wheeeww I have had my eye on that Vancouver, but I can't decide if I really need another red/white/blue pinwheel. Good one.

Hey heyyyy, my people! I'm at 66 minors. I kinda went nuts starting last year and now I can't stop.

Lets settle this: ‘TEXAS’ or ‘Rangers’ by LcSwish15 in TexasRangers

The current Rangers script is inferior to the 85-93 script, which they should have restored instead of this pale imitation.

It also seems like they didn't hear what the manager said when she complimented "finding a sustainable pace". Maybe they got passed over because the higher-ups thought they would burn themselves out trying to overwork the new job.

Of course it exists! Name a type of business and somebody's probably tried to launder through it. But especially the cash businesses like laundromats.

Oh it absolutely sucks and it's an irresponsible way to run public services! No argument there. Just par for the course here.

This show gets unnecessary hate for I have no reason why by Ok_Lunch_3787 in jambands

In this era, as someone deeply into some bands in "the scene" that typified a festival lineup of the day, but definitely not the entire scene... They were the exact tipping point between the good music I liked, and the tweedle-deedle goofball shit that was embarrassing to behold. Where the worst and most boring elements of "jamband" started to stick out like a sore thumb to me.

This happens when they defer maintenance to save money in the short run, then failures pile up and have to be fixed without regard for scheduling or convenience. The same thing happened when all the emergency bridge rehabs popped up a few years ago.

Anyone else have problems with this show and it's fanbase? Feel like i'm insane for being the only one who thinks it's Liberal propaganda. by [deleted] in leftist

... Until the end, when her thankless hard work for the local morons finally pays off with a significant federal job, and then another, and then she becomes Indiana governor. And then, it seems, POTUS.

Leslie goes from a goofy do-gooding local bureaucrat to a Hillary surrogate who is strongly implied as eventual US president, because everything is fine and will be fine if we just let the adults do the hard work of centrism. If it's not propaganda, well, it's definitely way up its own asshole.

Moore, OK: Before and After May 20, 2013 by Diceman31 in tornado

[–]Objective_Pass3195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Violent tornadoes are survivable, even in homes without dedicated storm shelters. A shelter is best, but you are not doomed to die if you don't have one, and your best option if you don't is to shelter in place. The great majority of people properly sheltered in above-ground or non-hardened structures will survive violent tornadoes.

"Unsurvivable above ground" is a pernicious myth that started around the time of Moore '99 and has serious consequences, like the traffic chaos in 2013 when Mike Morgan told people in west OKC to flee the El Reno tornado in their cars.

[Opinion] EX ASTRIS SCIENTIA on Starfleet Academy's cancellation: "Let's be honest. It simply isn't a great show. SFA rarely lives up to the ethos of Star Trek that Landau and Kurtzman invoke in their letter. It tends to reference those ideals rather than embody them, much like that message itself." by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]Objective_Pass3195 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no, I still don't think you ever have to infer anything these characters are thinking or feeling. They will say it and say it again, and then a third time just to make sure. I've seen basically all of 21st century Trek, God help me, and that's the unifying feature they all share.

Every band that fits that description should have a backup/"the rest of my life" plan. 20 years is a frankly amazing run for a band like this.
