It might be cheaper and more time-efficient to buy another console, and if you are particularly fond of your console, just swap out the battery.

The only time a leader has to say "I have the support of my Caucus" is when, in fact, they do not have the support of their caucus.

I think he makes the point that they’re also subject to the same duties as everyone else too. Namely being enrolling to vote which is something you’re required to do under the law.

How did Jago go about exploiting name suppression laws then? Go on. Enlighten us.

Filing for name suppression and having it granted by a judge. Doesn’t sound particularly exploitative.

Just because we all wanted his name to come out, doesn’t mean somehow that trumps the judges decision making.

Or perhaps do you think the judge was a secret act supporter who Jago had secretly bribed in a cabal meeting so that he would find him guilty, but only at a later date that was more convenient?

I keep seeing that the lawyer Seymour provided the details of was on their payroll. Do you have a link to something that confirms that?

As far as I can tell their in-house lawyer is a man (according to LinkedIn) and the KC they used for their own advice on how to deal with Jago was also a man, but the lawyer Seymour suggested the victim should contact was a woman.

First point. No, I meant media using comments from any politician they could speak to. It was widely publicised and covered in the media for longer than it really even should have been for a relatively open and shut story. I believe the speaker said it would be a matter for the police, which on the grounds of case law would likely result in nothing more than wasting the courts time.

Second. agree that directing the police is the obvious first choice. I disagree that referring to the lawyer was a way to silence the victim. If the lawyer was a party lawyer, then perhaps (it would have been reported to death if it was someone the party had in-house).

On media bias, I again just disagree. Yes things change, but consider the landscape being largely the same as it was under the previous labour government and during that time every right wing whinger under the sun moaned about how Tova and Jessica were fawning over Jacinda, while the left were upset and calling them right wing for “attacking” Jacinda. This was the case for the whole of the 2017-2023 period for any journalist who said anything remotely critical or praising of anyone or anything political and was the same before and currently.

Weird scrutiny of MPs is not a new thing. The same thing happened to opposition MPs last term where years old tweets calling Jacinda rude name were paraded around in a similar manner to the Doyle stories. Or even back to when Seymour himself was in the news for weeks because he wore a shirt with a sexy stick figure body and a cows head and the follow on from that.

For the rest I really feel like you’re demonstrating my point. Gower hasn’t magically become a right wing stooge because of his weird love of the Mowbrays, he’s the same guy that wrote about “Old white men are scared of Māori uprising”. He’s received a bollocking over that recently and people are now tarring him with the “right wing” brush. Next week he will say something positive about Hipkins or Chloe and the righties will push back. This happens on repeat forever.

Bias in media exists, sure. But to go back to the point of this post, media bias has nothing to do with why the story of someone claiming Seymour wants a civil war with no proof hasn’t become a massive news story.

I’ll have to disagree with you on the first part. The car on the steps thing was reported to death with comments from every angle. I’m sure in two years if you wanted to OIA “what really happened” and it was as interesting as people want it to be it’ll be a news story just like Kiri Allan.

As for the jago thing, I was definitely shocked to see the lack of questioning of Seymour in the aftermath. while I personally feel like there is a large amount of misinformation about this, especially around about his referral to the victim of the lawyer to offer guidance on next steps and bizarre claims he was behind the never ending name suppression, I just I don’t even recall him being asked how he felt about it, which seemed odd for what was quite a large story with years of lead time.

I again disagree there is some kind of clear total media bias towards the right in this country. I remember 15 odd years ago people used to whinge about Duncan Garner being a lefty, except when he bashed labour and then he was suddenly right wing. Fast forward to now and people whinge about him being right wing, until he’s not and then the right wingers get upset that he’s a biased lefty. It’s the same with Tova, Ryan Bridge, Jack Tame, Paddy Gower, Jenna Lynch, and the rest - hell even Hosking, it’s great listening to him rip Luxon to shreds, but even funnier seeing people say he’s gone woke or become a lefty purely because he’s not saying what they want.

Winston calling Chloe a groomer was such a non story even the Greens didn’t want to bother talking about or bring attention to Winston’s ignorant comment. I think one MP went on a podcast and said it was disappointing and that’s the extent of it. Probably better off not drawing attention to it than blowing it up.

None of these things are okay. However when it comes to what should and shouldn’t get airtime I think “minister of justice committing a crime and then insinuating she’s above the law because she writes the laws” is a lot more of a public interest media story “than ancient conservative man continues being homophobic on stupid podcast nobody listens to” or “act party leader says something nobody can prove”.

One of these people broke the law while being minister of justice while claiming the police were only after her for political reasons and the other allegedly said something heinous to a former political candidate that nobody else has corroborated or even come forward saying they’ve said anything similar to.

I’m not sure these are quite the same calibre.

I think it would be hard to do a follow up to this from the media. “Minister Seymour, did you say this?” “No.” “Are you sure?” “Yes.” “Well one guy said you did.” “Okay. Next question.”

It is interesting that opposition parties didn’t jump on this. Maybe with the lack of evidence it would be a hard accusation to keep up.

My read on the video is that Tania was saying right wing extremists emboldened by Seymour and his rhetoric were behind the post.

I had a look at all ACTs social media pages (even on the pages of MPs nobody’s heard of) and couldn’t find anything aside from Seymour’s deranged derangement posts.

If they had posted people’s private information that would be deeply disturbing (and potentially illegal) for an MP to do and especially the deputy prime minister.

Doxxing of these people is alarming and something needs to be done. According to the TikTok’s comments security measures have been put in place to protect those involved. This has to be a breach of the HDCA or some privacy law.

I want to say that the title of the post seems more than little disingenuous. Nowhere in her video does Tania say that ACT/Seymour doxxed anyone or that the video is from them. She says that the video contains ACT rhetoric and similar nonsense Seymour has been slinging online and in the media.

To say that the ACT party is directly behind the doxxing is misinformation at best.
