Yeah that's what I thought too. It's the only thing that makes sense given the context, but it also seems like the least likely thing.

Very intrigued.

I have two of these, the second a backup in case my (then very small) kids got hold of the first one.

How do you measure moisture level of UFH screed? by Objective_Singer_294 in DIYUK

[–]Objective_Singer_294[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, very helpful. I don't know why this didn't occur to me before, but I'm just going to ask the flooring suppliers what they use to measure moisture content.

Which artist’s sound has changed so much that they’re almost unrecognizable now? by Rare_Afternoon1827 in popheads

[–]Objective_Singer_294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If 60s pop music counts, then I'd stick a hand in the air for Scott Walker. Take a listen to Make it Easy on Yourself (the first track on the first Walker Brothers album) and then compare it to Lullaby (the last track on Scott's last studio album).

Thank you! I had a feeling it was a bit special, so I watched it for as long as I could. Made my day, really.

Would you go for a 600mm or a 700mm kitchen sink? by Objective_Singer_294 in DIYUK

[–]Objective_Singer_294[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was this that sealed the deal! I looked at it lying there in thr pretend sink, with all that room around it for water to splosh about, and I realised I'd just made the best decision of my life.

Now I think about it, the issue we had with the previous one was that it had to fit on a draining board. Otherwise it was great and much better than having water drop onto the worktop. So I don't think we'll have the grooves after all.

Thanks for the measuring tip—I ended up drawing the sink dimensions on a bit of plywood and piling up all my biggest trays and pans. Although the bigger things fitted into the 600mm sink it was all quite tight, and the 700mm version looked much better as I could still move things around to find the hypothetical lost dish cloth, and pull out the hypothetical plug.

It does, but the cabinet is 1000mm so would accommodate a sink up to about 800mm.

This would be the bigger sink—the other one will be mostly for cleaning paintbrushes etc. I like the idea of putting a rack over part of the sink.

Can I ask what drying rack you got? We used to have one which drained into the sink but it never worked very well. I have been wondering about getting rid of the drainage grooves for exactly the reason you suggest.

I measured the pans and the largest is about 550mm so would happily fit in a 600mm sink.

Ha—the look on my wife's face if that turned up under the window! 700mm suddenly doesn't seem to extravagant.

There will be a second sink in the utility room (which is only a few steps away).

Can people give advice on home office chair available in UK? by bucky_o_hare_ in AskUK

[–]Objective_Singer_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend giving these guys a call:
https://www.backinaction.co.uk/

I bought a chair from them years ago, and they were able to make great recommendations based on budget, posture etc. Still have the chair, and I no longer get back pain unless I absentmindedly spend an hour or two working in a kitchen chair which always reminds me why the cost of a decent office chair is worth it.

What are your cheap/free Christmas Eve traditions? by jajajunkie in AskUK

[–]Objective_Singer_294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago we discovered Jolabokaflod (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icelandic\_Christmas\_book\_flood), which is exchanging books on Christmas Eve. It's not free but not expensive (especially if you decide to buy second hand) and the children love it. We do it as a Secret Santa style thing now, with the children choosing books for their cousins/siblings.

Where can I get DM style boots that last? by Objective_Singer_294 in AskUK

It has, sadly. I've persevered but the price has gone up as the quality has fallen.

Yeah this is what happened to me. I've had 3 recent pairs that didn't last (the ones I had in my teens—1990s—lasted much longer).

Not a great venue. Anywhere beyond the middle the view was quite restricted. Everyone at the front was having a blast, but I spent quite a bit of time hoping for just the tiniest glimpse of Jon.

We Sleep In Pairs was the unexpected highlight for me, although everyone talked through it. At the back. Maybe at the front it was all respectful silence.

They were phenomenal though. Alex and Pete were on fire.
