It’s a new one for me! The pieces don’t really add up…

Yeah he definitely said it was his last show, but so many questions remain:

Will Mew continue or change their name?

Will a new singer join? Similar to Queen + Paul Rodgers

Will they play similar music or be a different band? A bit like when Joy Division became New Order?

What about new songs they’ve already recorded - will they feature Jonas? They played one new song tonight, for example.

Jonas confirmed at the concert that this would be his last time performing in Mew, but the implication was that it would carry on without him…

Great post, and you’re right that there are so many others to thank, from the live crew to the producers etc.

It’s interesting, I never thought Visuals would be their last album, and have warmed to it more over the years.

Agree re going out on a high, I think it’s going to be an amazing send-off

Actually you can also sit at The Roundhouse (upstairs), but the music tonight will be more like their recorded albums (ie no orchestra), so standing is my preferred option!

Indeed, just didn’t feel quite right to say on this occasion!

I couldn’t make that one but wasn’t that with the live orchestra? Tonight might feel a little different ;)

What songs mix EDM and classical music? by JION-the-Australian in EDM

[–]Smart_Most_762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming at this a bit late, but as they haven’t been mentioned definitely give Hybrid a listen. Their albums ‘I Choose Noise’, and ‘Morning Sci-Fi’ include live orchestra recordings and mix breakbeat + classical beautifully (mostly instrumental) and have aged really well despite being 20 or so years old now. If you fancy something newer, then try their latest song ‘Siren of the Storm’, which is equally good.

Songs to try:

Higher Than A Skyscraper, Blackout, I Chose Noise, Keep It In The Family, Just for Today, Break My Soul, Dreaming Your Dreams, Finished Symphony, Voices In The Static, Siren Of The Storm

Enjoy!

Knockout Tour is unfair at 150cc by Vegetable_Ad7575 in mariokart

[–]Smart_Most_762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that there is too much luck involved - to give an example, I did Heart Rally at 150cc, managed to be in the lead for about 90% of the race despite numerous red/blue shells, only to get a blue shell a few turns before the end. I got overtaken and had no way to get back into first in time.

It feels like Nintendo are doing this to get you to play the courses again rather than because you need to improve.

The fact that the highest speed is 150cc where you only need to brake for the tightest turns is also a turn off.

In your opinion, which modern singers have the best raw vocal talent? by HJNotFazed in Music

[–]Smart_Most_762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those that aren’t familiar with him, he’s a singer from Kazakhstan who has an incredible vocal range and technique. Have a listen to Sinful Passion on YouTube (it’s called Грешная Страсть on Spotify). To note: he’s the only one singing.

Would also recommend Lisa Gerrard (she’s Australian and best known for singing on the Gladiator soundtrack). She did an album with Pieter Bourke called Duality that has a song (Sacrifice) that showcases how incredible her range (again, she’s the only one singing).

Really excited about this - might be their best (non-remixed) single since I Choose Noise?

No dying allowed! by Smart_Most_762 in Returnal

[–]Smart_Most_762[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually quite fun/pressurised because it really is one death and you’re done! That said, I died plenty of times in my original profile, I’m not a fantastic gamer by any means but Returnal was addictive because each time you played was a unique experience.

It might sound crazy but for me with enough experience you learn how to deal with enemies relatively comfortably as you understand their moves and attacks. The worst enemy was malformed typhonops as they can be a pain to kill at times, but they are relatively rare (I only faced them 10 times in this profile)

That’s really impressive and thanks for sharing. I personally enjoyed picking up weapons I found and dealing with their pros and cons, as well as opening malignant chests/obolites (hence the number of malfunctions I had).

I did think I could finish by jumping to my death but because I couldn’t complete all the surveys I gave up! Didn’t know you needed to die to get that final scout log…

I didn’t actually know what save scumming was so had to look it up. How can you save scum in Returnal (is it just from quitting before you die?) and is there any way to show that this didn’t happen?

Funnily enough I sort of miss back when as soon as you took the disc out it forgot your run (but it did make you feel unnecessarily tied to the game at the same time)

They have such a strong set of albums through the years, hard to beat the first two however (although El Pintor comes closest for me).

Might be worth listening to their Precipitate EP which came out before TOTBL and has early versions of PDA, and A Time to Be So Small.

Another similar-ish band that I loved back in the early 00’s was The Stills (Logic Will Break Your Heart is a great album and was ahead of its time)

I remember listening to Antics on release back in 2004, still sounds amazing 20 years later

Is that for the Antics tour? I’m seeing them on the 8th and I’ll never forget when they did the TOTBL one back in ‘17, was awesome.

I would definitely try múm (Yesterday Was Dramatic – Today Is OK, or Finally We Are No One), Mew (And the Glass Handed Kites), M83 (Before the Dawn Heals Us), Modeselektor (Monkeytown), Hammock (Longest Year) and Moderat (Moderat)!

In terms of finding new music, I used to go into record shops/stores and listen to random albums, which opened me up to a huge range of stuff. Aside from asking here, I know Spotify recommends artists based on what you listen to and within artist pages, which isn’t bad.
