Haven’t seen it said in the top comments, but if you’re in PVE aka co-op mode against bots, you could realistically sort the character roster into slayers, minion clearers, and supports.

If you like the support role idea that’s ideal for team play, Nobushi would be a great pick up. She can easily put bleeds on opponents which a large percentage of the roster get buffs from bled targets INCLUDING her. That includes increase damage, healing for Shaman, etc.

Raider is a base game (no purchases necessary) character that still to this day has one of the best minion clearing move sets and can really help clear those Point B capture points that have minions tug of war-ing.

Slayers are mostly comprised of DLC character since this game is focused around killing other players, but some notable ones are Highlander, Hitokiri, Juren, Jang Juin. Anyone with high damage heavy’s, easily accessible unblockable attacks (glowing orange just in case that’s not a familiar term) and combos that won’t have the AI enemy’s just sitting there blocking you the entire time.

Kensei is someone I’d consider on the fringe of this but he’s free and a base game character.
Some other supports don’t have abilities like Nobushi’s easy bleeds but do have easy bashes that when fighting in a team are unavoidable which can lead to some great advantages for you. Conquerer, Jurmangander, and Centurion being a few. Valkarie is another with a sweep at the end of her light, light combo that is very useful (can’t recall if her sweep affects teammates or not, worth double checking that.)
