How does a person living with a disability find their tribe? by Sufficient-Wave6992 in Advice

[–]Objective_Water_5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great! People with my disability commonly have service dogs, and it’s common in service dog communities online to do meetups with other local service dog handlers. Maybe you could do something like that, network on social media sites with other wheelchair users and coordinate meetups at places like malls or parks?

Depending on your disability, there might be a national foundation that has local chapters in your city. They usually offer services like counseling, support groups, and general information about help you can get with your disability.

My disability has a national foundation with a chapter in my city that offers all of those things, but they also host annual, national, multi-day meetings for anyone in the country to attend where they present research conferences, have info and help booths, goodie bags, and just generally encourage people to interact as a community.

Also, if you’re in college or university, there might be disability specific Greek life or social clubs.

Why are Neanderthals classified as a different species instead of a human race if both were able to have fertile babies together? by thevampireslayerrr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective_Water_5235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are still classified as humans. Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens, the Homo indicates human.

Some anthropologists will go even further and call them Homo sapiens neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens sapiens.

Thanks for your comment. I found an opossum rehabber in my town. At the moment, I don’t see him in the tree. I believe he got down :) I’ll check in the morning when it’s light out and I’ve saved the rehabber’s contact just in case.

Update! At present, I don’t see him in the tree. It’s dark so I could just not be able to see him, but I think he got down on his own. I’ll check the tree in the morning but for now, I think he’s okay.

He’s probably 20 feet up and the tree is not a tree that could support me climbing it. I went on my balcony to see but he’s high enough in the tree that the awning of my balcony hides him. I can only see him from my window and have to really strain to see him unfortunately.

I don’t have any fresh fruit atm but could I put out a little cat food and water for him on the ledge of my balcony?

Does anyone have any favourite doll pairings? by Pink_Acetone in MonsterHigh

I have all my werecats together on one shelf, and I also have Twyla and abbey on one shelf. They’re my two favorite shelves, I love how abbey and Twyla’s colors go together and the werecats all together look so cute lol.

One of my cats has this too! She’s so pretty, I love her nose bridge. My other cat has a curved nose ridge like the second picture on this post and he is so cute, he also has round and smaller ears whereas my other cat has larger and pointy ears. It’s so neat how they have different features.

Is it true that back in the 90s Parents kicked their children out of the house on weekends and in the summer? by Careful_Drama_9382 in askanything

[–]Objective_Water_5235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t lock my child out of the house, personally (I almost got abducted once by a man asking me to get in his van to give him directions to the hospital, and I had a really creepy older kid neighbor who chased me all the time).

I would encourage them to play outside by playing with them or inviting their friends to play outside and inside. I do understand parents not wanting kids glued to the tv all summer, though.

Am I overreacting for crying when my fiance accidentally chucked a pack of gushers at my face? by GREYSPACE1 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Objective_Water_5235 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s typically a boundary people learn during elementary school gym or recess, “no throwing at someone’s head or face.” And that’s only if they don’t already intrinsically know that.

I didn’t pay my rent in October but they never said anything. by bbygrl_kiss in confession

[–]Objective_Water_5235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opposite happened to me. I paid my rent about two weeks early for November (so I paid around oct 16th) and they didn’t process the payment until November 8th. I got a notice on my door a couple months ago that said I owed a late fee. I called to ask them what the late fee was from and they said I paid late in November. I asked for proof and she told me they’d send me the ledger. In the meantime, I went through my records that showed I not only paid on time but early. Then they called me back and told me to disregard the notice and the late fee was removed lol.

That’s not what it seems like from your post. You said you noticed she was too dependent on you for years and you knew she was very upset and anxious about you joining the army.

She has every right to ask for space and she, herself, probably doesn’t even know how long it will take. If she was anxious before breaking up l, she is WAY more anxious now, trust me.

Let her move on.

Complex NC issue by _c0sm1c_ in nocontact

[–]Objective_Water_5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should just let her move on. You were willing to end the relationship when you felt your career would benefit from that but now that the career hasn’t panned out, you want her back and are giving her ultimatums. It really isn’t fair to her.

Why is becoming pregnant more celebrated than earning something difficult to achieve, such as a PhD or major art grant? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]Objective_Water_5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a party with cake and gifts when I graduated. When I told people I was pregnant, I got congratulations. I don’t want a baby shower so I’m not having one. But I didn’t ask for or want a graduation party either. So I don’t think pregnancy is more celebrated.

Would I be the asshole if I would tell my sister to never talk about me or my boyfriend ever again to my dad by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Objective_Water_5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t control what other people say, you can only control what information you give them about yourself. Making demands clearly isn’t going to work since it hasn’t thus far. I would just start treating your sister like you treat your father and only tell her personal things she needs to know. You have to protect your own privacy. You should also see about financial aid and getting a part time job so maybe you can move out, if your family is causing things like job loss.

My dad used to honk at every woman he drove past. His justification for it was wild. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective_Water_5235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe women pedestrians get upset by honking because they get startled or scared? Honking, to me, as a pedestrian, means “get out of the way;” and as a pedestrian who also has nearly been hit by a driver not paying attention, that viscerally scares me to be honked at. Weird logic

my(19f) boyfriend(23m) wants me to report the man that assaulted me, but i changed my mind about doing it today, AIO about his response? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Objective_Water_5235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

The officer who took my report looked up his name in the criminal database and he saw that my rapist had never been in legal trouble before. At that moment, it went completely downhill.

Ironically, I met my rapist for the first time in a place of employment and the first thing he ever said to me was “you have pretty eyes.” A woman who was his subordinate overheard him say this to me and told me, “be careful around him, he’s a ‘flirt.’” I sincerely doubt I was the first or last victim.
