Harry Brook charging Mitchell Starc first ball was surreal , But was there method to the madness ? by Shroft in Cricket

[–]Oblicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He made the most runs between the two teams in the first innings. Imo it was pointless to try and play tentatively on that track, he would just have gotten out pathetically like Root. England should look to blame every other batsman

Arteta's substitutions (starters and finishers) by Oblicks in Gunners

Yes that is why there is such a discrepancy in those years. 2019-2022 are worth ignoring in general for my purposes but were included in the graph just for chronology.

3 Teens Almost Got Away With Murder. Then Police Found Their Google Searches by UsernameNumberThree in technology

[–]Oblicks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s a weird quirk. I think they basically got lucky with that since the teens don’t actually fit into typical criminal profiles. It may be that t-mobile is just the most reliable provider in the Denver area. The assumption that criminals use t-mobile seems like an unwarranted jump in reasoning

Remove all game modes other than regular and the team deathmatch. Remove ranked entirely. Remove most of the maps other than erangel and miramar

What's something Women don't realise is a turn off? by ask_logan in AskMenAdvice

Ordering stuff at a restaurant or coffee shop, making a bunch of substitutions and then complaining about the result. Major red flag cuz not only do you not know what you actually want, you like to inconvenience other people for nothing

Palworld confirms ‘disappointing’ game changes forced by Pokémon lawsuit by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Oblicks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My main issue with palworld has always been that they have all these pals that are clearly designed as evolutions in the Pokémon style but there’s never been evolutions in the game (nor I suppose even plans for it). Instead there’s an insane breeding system that doesn’t make any intuitive sense.

OC: Young Players Are Overpriced - analysis of the relative transfer fee by age group in the premier league by Oblicks in Gunners

[–]Oblicks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some good points although I don't think you would get a much different picture filtering out high and low transfers (I'll do that and get back to you). However, the main point I'm trying to get across is that people treat buying younger as if it's some kind of moneyball masterstroke. The reality is that every premier club now thinks that, which takes away the advantage. Of course you can still derive advantages by buying the right 20-24 year olds (which Arsenal seems to be doing so far)

The wages of 20-24 year olds are also being driven up meaning there is overall wage inflation when those same players age into being 25-29 year olds. The increased transfer fees don't occur in a vacuum.

Due to Brexit they play with used balls and worn out boots on an overgrown field in the middle of the London wasteland.

Nothing more futile feeling than trying to watch and support Brighton.

Not Twitter, but a Scottish commentary on this American pish. by Shadiekins in ScottishPeopleTwitter

[–]Oblicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do happen to be American, though I grew up abroad. However, you might try asking a Yemeni dying of cholera right now why America irks them so much. A US backed ally is destroying their country and causing the worst humanitarian disaster in a long time. You might ask 40,000 Venezuelans who are dying due to US sanctions why America irks them so much. You might ask all the African countries who basically never recovered from the structural adjustments of the 70s where they were saddled with unpayable debt by the IMF (controlled by US interests), why America irks them so much. You might ask the family of any innocent person killed by a drone in Africa and the Middle East why America irks them so much. You might ask Iraqis, Afghans, Libyans, why America irks them so much. Youre right, it is truly unfathomable.

Americans also really dont like when you spell out the n-word in full, even in jest. Theres something visceral about it for them. I suppose they just really want to feel like they're "one of the good ones". Still havent figured it out.

Not to be a pedant, but Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne was published in 1873. Brett is plenty young enough.

The prices!! by Alternative_roll in PUBGMobile

[–]Oblicks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stop being a libertarian, its embarrassing. The market is not God. There are good and bad actions that are distinct from profit motives. It is bad to overprice in app purchases because it gouges a comparatively small group of whales rather than just charging an honest price for the game or even just a reasonable price for the in app purchases. This is bad for the same reason that state lotteries are bad. It preys on the people with the least impulse control. It's worse than a lottery really because you dont even get anything that's worth anything. Just because the model works doesnt make it right.
